Senior parliamentarian and government minister Jeyeraj Fernandopulle and 10 others have been killed in a suspected Tamil Tiger suicide blast in Weliweriya today. More than 40 others are reported to be wounded. Almost all casualties are civilians.
Minister Fernandopulle was the chief guest at the national marathon that was to be started from Kanthi stadium in Weliweriya.

ReplyDeleteI’m bringing back a very unpopular yet necessary topic. WE MUST SPEED UP THE WAR. I don’t mean that we should rush to LTTE controlled areas. NO; NEVER. There is actually no point in capturing land as it is already ours legally. What I want is to increase the killing rate which is slowly slipping down. Jan, Feb and March had declining LTTE deaths. So far in April it has been even smaller. I know things are getting tougher but the killing rate must be upped.
In another 1 ½ years time there is going to be another parliament election. Peoples’ support for the war is slowly reducing. At that time the govt. cannot ask them to vote for it to finish the LTTE off. By then they would be exhausted of these promises, the war, etc. as happen always. The maximum unbroken stretch SLDFs fought was 4 years. 1983-87 (4), 90-93 (3), 97-99 (2). This war started in early 2006 and will last till end 2009 going by the previous experience AT MOST. But since the next parliament election is in very early 2010, bloody politicians will start their campaigns by at least mid 2009. Therefore we essentially have only ONE full year and three months from now. Nearing the election the govt. will also not want trouble and will stop all operations. If the war remains as now (more or less), UNP will win the election and Ranil will start giving a blow job to Praba. This will more than reverse the few victories we have scored by now.
Tigers don’t have the numbers. Killing over 50 a day, everyday will seriously weaken it. It is achievable.
TF, virtually all tigers got to be killed within the next 15 months. Present strategy cannot achieve this. We need the SLAF and SLN joining the SLA in killing tigers. This is IN ADDITION to CAS by SLAF for which I was begging for so long. I propose the following.
1. SLAF to attack using heli./plane mounted guns (in addition to ATGMs, etc.) to identified tiger positions of high concentration including FDLs. We have enough resources now.
2. SLAF to get WORKING night strike capability and use it
3. SLN to attack tiger bases close to the sea with a view to kill the max.
4. SLA to carryout more penetrated attacks
5. increase the use of snipers in every front
6. use other innovative killing methods
As for the MoD's STUPID poster and reward campaign for suicide bombers who give up.........

The Mi-24 attack in muhamalai as defence.lk states was carried out to .........disrupt LTTE build-up. This is a waste and it proves my earlier assertions - Mi-24s are used to "chase away" tigers than to kill them. Instead they should specifically target tigers, their hiding places, huts, bunkers, etc. TO KILL THEM. True its missiles are expensive, but then the gun can be used very effectively.
Based on my limited research, SLAF gunships NEVER use their guns!!

2. Before this, people came on pilgrimage to Madu to worship Pattini Amma the famous Madu Goddess.
3. In the time of PWP Ranil gave the country in wholesale to LTTE, Rayappu Joseph requested Army to be withdrawn from Madu area that was well supported by none other than Dr. Jayalth Jayawardena
4. Rayappu Joseph's request was simple an LTTE request and as soon as the Army was withdrawn, LTTE occupied the whole area and the premises. It remains the same until now.
5. When LTTE occupied the Madu Church premises, Rayappu Joseph was silent. He did not organized peace marches nor any requests made to make the area a peace zone.
6. Not only Rayappu Joseph let LTTE occupied the premises, he did not utter a word when LTTE used the premises to attack the security forces using artillery and heavy mortar.
7. Couple of months ago, Rayappu Joseph went to Europe on behalf of LTTE to ask EU to pressure GOSL and UN to bring a UN peace keeping force in Sri Lanka.
9. Now Rayappu Joseph and his LTTE supporting priest-clan has let LTTE fully take over the Church for war purposes and left to LTTE heartland. This shows who is the terrorist agent.
10. LTTE terrorists are terrorizing our beautiful nation for 3 decades. Vatican should shame these LTTE supporting priests and expel them from their church. Sad fact is, Vatican is also not doing anything about this misdemeanors of Rayappu Joseph and clan.

No. It was built during the kandyan kings when the dutch were here who went killing Catholics and Catholics ran to the protection of the Kandy king. There was a route from India to Kandy as there were alot of dealings with Kerala at that time. Madu was on its way. As per Catholic legends, the place that was built into the church was a house used by the king (and his family) when they travelled. The king has donated it.
If there was another shrine there, he would not donate it.
But on the other hand even Catholics talk about the powers of the premises, the soil, etc. and the serenity of the area even before the Madhu Catholic shrine was constructed. Therefore there can be some truth to what you say as well.
But lets not fall down to the level of bloody indians who destroyed a muslim mosque stating that it was originally a Hindu temple.
Buddhists and hindus can go there and they have been going there.
But Madhu (including the statue) must unconditionally belong to Sri Lanka. There cannot be a noman's land for Madhu between SL and TE. Politically and militarily Madhu belongs to SL and SL only.

They act as the official religion of LTTE (or the Tamil Eelam) and conduct themselves in disgraceful manner.
There was a time, if a captured soldier was Catholic or Christian, a Catholic priest can walk to LTTE and bring them back, but not the captured Buddhist soldiers.
LTTE never killed Catholic or Christian priest but killed hundreds of Buddhist monks and has destroyed thousands of Buddhist places of worship and ancient ruins.
I'm very much sadned by Church's disgraceful conduct in supporting LTTE.
