LTTE’s defences on several fronts as collapsing. On one front the 59 division is extended their defences north of Mullathivu till Vaduvakal, a small village. On another front, 55 division units moving south of Chundikulam have breached LTTE defence line at Challai. Delivering yet another blow for LTTE, troops of the 58 division took control of Vishwamadu junction several hours ago. Two senior LTTE leaders identified as ‘Kobe Master’ and ‘Shanthan Kumar’ are believed to be killed in Vishwamadu fighting. Sporadic clashes are still continuing in this area.
Meanwhile the ‘Liberation’ tigers have fled further towards the recently declared no war zone.

Thanks DN for the update.

ReplyDeleteNew Details of VP rescue plan Thursday, 29 January 2009 - 6:51 AM SL Time
VP`s son CA is now forming a with influential group of tamil Elam supporters from UK and Canada who are now in a neighboring country to save VP.
The article by Defense wire is only the tip of the ice burg.
As we know VP is the rock of the operations, as he has created a demigod of himself and an organization around him...only him
The problem if he goes so does LTTE, Remember Umamaheswaran and others/ with PLOTE/TELO etc.
Guys,
ReplyDeleteHere is what I think..
Remember the attack on SLN vessel in high seas last year.
and the last one on 19 Jan 2009, I think both can be attributed to these crude LTTE subs..Specially the one in 2008 was most likely hit by one of the smaller one man LTTE mini sub in the pics relased by the SLA today.
I am just speculating. Nothing much.

I can give you a small scoop!
ReplyDeleteIn the latter part of 2007, SL MI reached Balakumaran and got him to discuss about a possible defection.
To MI's surprise, they got an initial price of $10M for Balraj (now deceased) with about 140 of his close men. With the encouragement that they got from the initial work, they had contact to defect Soranam or harm LTTE chief through Soranam too. To MI's surprise, more and more price tags have been presented, which include Shankar (a disabled ex cadre who handles LTTE finances), and possibly Soosai and Pulithevan (whom MI has no use). However, initial dollars have sky-rocketed by then to exaggerated figures into over $500M or more (where it claimed Soranam has asked $300M and safe passage). Fragility of risking $500M has raised eyebrows in this side of the tail. That's how everything has stalled. Now Balakumaran is critically injured and the LTTE leader will anyway be captured, killed, or chased away from the Island, no much need for a defection.
If Soranam was sorted, we could have saved few million of $ and large number of lives.

LTTE are cowards!
ReplyDeleteIf they are real fighters and love Tamil people, they should let civilians go and fight.
Now, they are hiding behind civilians.
They want to escape defeat by shedding civilian blood!
No Tamil die-ass-phora is denouncing the LTTE's cowardly act. They jump around asking not to kill Tamils.
Sri Lankan Army does not want to kill Tamils. Their fight is only with the LTTE terrorists.
The selfish Tamil die-ass-phora thinks that it is OK for civilians to get killed in order to get the necessary mileage out of it to save LTTE.
What a bunch of cowards!

Tomorrow - Saturday 30th of January - the London based Sri Lankans will be holding a VICTORY PARADE in Central London. All are welcome – please bring a large SRI LANKAN FLAG.
As tomorrow’s weather is expected to be extremely cold, Westminster Council has granted permission for a bonfire. The VIM organising committee has suggested that this is a good opportunity for ex LTTE supporters to get rid of unwanted clutter, such as flags and posters.
Note, this is not an LTTE event. In any case you won’t be allowed to display any LTTE paraphernalia.

Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday warned ambassadors, news agencies and INGOs acting irresponsibly of "dire consequences" if they attempt to give the LTTE terrorists a second breath of life.
ReplyDeleteHe named, CNN, Al-Jazeera and specially the BBC of trying to sensationalize civilian hardships by telecasting video clips from LTTE websites.
It was irresponsible not to talk about civilians held in the war zone by the LTTE while making comments that only helped the Tigers, he said accusing BBC Anchor Chris Morris of being known for partisan support to the LTTE terrorists from the 1990s.
Act responsibly or be chased out

I would add-
All these broadcasters had access to the Kalamadukulam dam blast video (from defence.lk)within hours of that incident. However, they never aired it.
We are luckey to have tough guys like this.
ReplyDelete"Act responsibly or be chased out,’’ Gota tells BBC & envoys
by Franklin R. Satyapalan
Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday warned ambassadors, news agencies and INGOs acting irresponsibly of "dire consequences" if they attempt to give the LTTE terrorists a second breath of life.
"They will be chased away (if they try) to give a second wind to the LTTE terrorists at a time the security forces, at heavy cost, are dealing them the final death blow," he said.
Rajapaksa did not mince his words when he said that some ambassadors, specially the German and Swiss ambassadors, and some news agencies were behaving irresponsibly.
He named, CNN, Al-Jazeera and specially the BBC of trying to sensationalize civilian hardships by telecasting video clips from LTTE websites.
"These video clips do not indicate bombings or explosions," Rajapakse said.
He urged that what the international community including UN agencies and the ICRC should do is to maximize pressure to bear on the Tigers and make them release civilians trapped in the war zone and used as human shields.
"This is the last chance that the LTTE has of sincerely minimizing civilian casualties by giving them safe passage out of the conflict zone," Rajapakse said.
It was irresponsible not to talk about civilians held in the war zone by the LTTE while making comments that only helped the Tigers, he said accusing BBC Anchor Chris Morris of being known for partisan support to the LTTE terrorists from the 1990s.
"If he does not act responsibly and attempts to create panic, I will have to chase him out of the country," Rajapakse said.
He warned that members of the international community, specifically the German and Swiss ambassadors, who are trying to create panic will be similarly treated.
Rajapaks said that all democratic countries, organizations and news agencies must act responsibly and bring pressure on the LTTE terrorists to free the civilians trapped in the war zone.

ReplyDeleteYou did have a good number attending your demo on Saturday.
What we need to do is to take a page from the BCCSL (that's right - old Cricket Sri Lanka). Right before the second tour to Australia (one in which Murali was called for noballing while bowling leg-spin) BCCSL tried to negotiate with the Australians to take idiot Darryl Hair out of the matches. Since Malcom Speed, then head of ACB did not agree to that, the BCCSL officials immediately hired the #1 public relations firm in Australia before returning to Sri Lanka.
ReplyDeleteThe firm started the media campaign weeks before the Sri Lankan team even landed in Australia. The team of lawyers (representing the team) that showed up at the now infamous code of conduct hearing the day after Arjuna threatened to walk from the field had been in place for months.
Articles both before and after the incident in Australian and British media were choreographed well ahead of schedule. Otherwise a small country like Sri Lanka would never have convinced the ICC to re-write their laws on the legality of deliveries.
Sorry for the long story but... what we need to do is hire the best PR firms in Germany, Switzerland, UK and even India to make a coordinated neutralization campaign against this nonsense journalism.
I know we have some of the best people in our foreign service, but they are not PR experts. The LTTE uses several PR firms for their propaganda. Why not match them "bullet for bullet"?
Journalists are not conscientious and objective reporters anymore, opinion is easily confused with the reporting of fact. They have to compete against Premier League Soccer, IPL SuperStar etc for the same audience, so the sensational story is what sells.
Its a better sounding story about how an oppressive regime is shelling defenseless victims compared to one about a democratically elected government which has representation from Tamils trying to diffuse a group of separatists.
Israel does this the best. Sri Lanka (at least in cricket) has done this in the past. So why not now?
If the embassies in these countries are already doing this... my apologies.. I am simply not aware of what our strategy is on the "information" or "media" warefare front.
GOSL must realize the enormous strength and the block vote of the Tamil Diaspora
ReplyDeleteWhich was very much in evidence in today’s demo. these numbers matter to the politicians in these countries and these people of IC will never want to see the good work done by the SL government in Vanni but go by the demands of the Diaspora whose votes matter to them so much.
Only way to counter this is to make the island’s economy in Par with Singapore and South Korea and to do that is to remove the shackles created by the cultural and religious constrains.

Military strategy to change with breaking of LTTE’s back
ReplyDeleteWith the Sri Lanka’s most successful ground offensive on the Vanni front rapidly coming to a close, an appraisal of overall military strategy is on the cards.
Authoritative military sources asserted that once the army liberated an area of less than 300 square kms. east of the A9, the basic strategy will have to be changed.
The transformation will see giant multiple Division-sized operations replaced by a mix of operations by the infantry, Special Forces and Commandos targeting isolated LTTE units which may take refuge in the dense jungles of the northern and eastern provinces.
Such operations will be supplemented by intelligence services targeting clandestine LTTE activity aimed at destabilization by assassinations and hit and run attacks on civilian targets.
The Katunayake-based jet squadrons will now find it extremely difficult to zero-in on LTTE targets due to heavy presence of civilians, senior defence sources said. High altitude bombing would pose a serious problem.
The three jet squadrons comprising Kfirs, MiG 27s and F7s responsible for almost 1,400 missions in Eelam War IV would get a long breather, the sources said.
Once the army had regained the entire Vanni region, both east and west of the A9, any target would be accessible to the army, the sources said.
The deployment pattern of the army as well as other forces too would change as they would be called to fight an insurgency.
The sources pointed out that the deployment of heavy weapons ranging from T 55 main battle tanks to 152 mm artillery pieces and Czech-built Multi Barrel Rocket Launchers, wouldn’t be necessary once the major battles end.
They asserted that priorities would change as the army targets isolated enemy units attempting survive in the jungles.
The bottom line is that the use of ammunition by all services will see a sharp decrease. This will be true of particularly the army and the SLAF. (SF)

Dear Mr. President:
ReplyDeleteAs the people of Sri Lanka and Sri Lankan origin around the world celebrate National Day on February 4, I send my warmest greetings and wishes to you on behalf of the people of the United States.
The United States values its enduring friendship with the people of Sri Lanka. I hope that the coming year will see advancement of our shared beliefs in democracy, liberty, pluralism, and respect for human rights. Our governments together can work to foster peace, prosperity, and stability throughout Sri Lanka.
As the people of Sri Lanka celebrate National Day, they should know that they have a friend and partner in the United States.
