Troops of the 55 division have breached the 3rd and final LTTE defence line at Challai and have advanced into LTTE’s last remaining major sea tiger base. Fighting has been going on this area ever since SLA units breached LTTE’s second ‘earth bund’ about a week ago. Soldiers of the 7 VIR (Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment) attached to 55 division today overran the 3rd and final earth bund at Challai and moved further into LTTE held territory. Heaviest fighting in this area was reported in the past two days, specially during the night. The bund captured today and the one captured last week were located about 2km apart from each other.
According to military intelligence, several senior sea tiger wing members have perished in Challai fighting. A deputy sea tiger leader identified as Vinayagam, a sea tiger special commander identified as Kannan and several other regional leaders are said to be killed in yesterday and today’s fighting.

It is ironic that ultimately the Government of Sri Lanka will be accused of genocide. Once the LTTE held area is captured and a count of people in the demarcated safe zone is done, the 250,000 given by LTTE sources prior to the seige will be the baseline - all others will be conveniently classified as killed by the "genocide". Never mind that the actual count was only 50,000 and at a maximum 75,000.

You are making some valid points up there.
We must be concerned about the politics in India as the centre might be tempted to sacrifice SL to keep stability in that country. We must do everything to isolate ourselves from them and less attention we give them it’s better for us.
With respect to rest of the IC it’s only a few politicians that are stirring up things against us as the rest aren’t worried much as SL is as remote from their day to day problems.
Biggest problem is the fundraising business within the Diaspora which should tackled between the governments siting many covenants of international law perhaps siting good relations between states.
It could be a good idea to recall our High commissioners or ambassadors as a mark of protest, perhaps for a brief moment to get attention and to give strength to these foreign governments to crack down on wrongdoers and until then they will not dare to cross swords with their own elected MPs who have a sizeable Diaspora

Above is a dangerous path to take because people who had military training eventually begin to get familiarize with weapons, killing etc thus lead to other problems.But there are other mechanisms to prepare our people to have a well organized society, a well developed society with high economic and living standards.
Take Mumbai as an example where this little area attracted the world attention and we need a similar setup in the island. Our island should be a part and parcel of the world’s powerful economic hub then it creates it’s own safety net.

The stake holders to our demise must be India perhaps Singapore who found that we may be a threat to their economy remember there were people very close to me in Singapore willing to move on to SL and invest there. So the key to our stability will be the economic success but then we might have severe opposition by our own homebred religious and nationalistic lunatics just as in India where they are willing to oppose any development due to them being sidelined by the people and this lot is as treacherous as the tiger terrorists as they think that they have a monopoly on the poor and meek.

Desperate measures As the Tiger cadres that infiltrated into Puthukuduyiruppu South failed to achieve their objective the Tigers were taking desperate measures. The first such incident took place in Puthukuduyiruppu South on Tuesday evening as the South was preparing for the Independence celebrations after tightening security in Colombo with more than 4000 Security Forces personnel arriving in Colombo for the Independence Day parade at Galle Face green.
The troops manning the forward defences thought that the four vehicles arriving there were transporting civilians who are fleeing Puthukuduyiruppu. The troops there challenged the vehicles and stopped them as they reached towards the Security Forces defences.
Once they were stopped the four vehicles were exploded in a massive blast causing injuries to a large number of soldiers manning the defences there in Puthukuduyiruppu South. Many lives of the soldiers were saved as they took precautionary action to stop the vehicle before they reached nearer.

What are the environmental impacts of using geothermal energy?
Answer: Geothermal technologies offer many environmental advantages over conventional power generation:

Emissions are low. Only excess steam is emitted by geothermal flash plants. No air emissions or liquids are discharged by binary geothermal plants, which are projected to become the dominant technology in the near future.

Salts and dissolved minerals contained in geothermal fluids are usually reinjected with excess water back into the reservoir at a depth well below groundwater aquifers. This recycles the geothermal water and replenishes the reservoir. The City of Santa Rosa, California, pipes the city's treated wastewater up to The Geysers power plants to be used for reinjection fluid. This system will prolong the life of the reservoir as it recycles the treated wastewater.

Some geothermal plants do produce some solid materials, or sludges, that require disposal in approved sites. Some of these solids are now being extracted for sale (zinc, silica, and sulfur, for example), making the resource even more valuable and environmentally friendly.
What is the visual impact of geothermal technologies?
Answer: District heating systems and geothermal heat pumps are easily integrated into communities with almost no visual impact. Geothermal power plants use relatively small acreages, and don't require storage, transportation, or combustion of fuels. Either no emissions or just steam are visible. These qualities reduce the overall visual impact of power plants in scenic regions.
Is it possible to deplete geothermal reservoirs?
Answer: The long-term sustainability of geothermal energy production has been demonstrated at the Lardarello field in Italy since 1913, at the Wairakei field in New Zealand since 1958, and at The Geysers field in California since 1960. Pressure and production declines have been experienced at some plants, and operators have begun reinjecting water to maintain reservoir pressure. The City of Santa Rosa, California, pipes its treated wastewater up to The Geysers to be used as reinjection fluid, thereby prolonging the life of the reservoir while recycling the treated wastewater.
How much does geothermal energy cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh)?
Answer: At The Geysers, power is sold at $0.03 to $0.035 per kWh. A power plant built today would probably require about $0.05 per kWh. Some plants can charge more during peak demand periods.
What does it cost to develop a geothermal power plant?
Answer: Costs of a geothermal plant are heavily weighted toward early expenses, rather than fuel to keep them running. Well drilling and pipeline construction occur first, followed by resource analysis of the drilling information. Next is design of the actual plant. Power plant construction is usually completed concurrent with final field development. The initial cost for the field and power plant is around $2500 per installed kW in the U.S., probably $3000 to $5000/kWe for a small (<1Mwe) power plant. Operating and maintenance costs range from $0.01 to $0.03 per kWh. Most geothermal power plants can run at greater than 90% availability (i.e., producing more than 90% of the time), but running at 97% or 98% can increase maintenance costs. Higher-priced electricity justifies running the plant 98% of the time because the resulting higher maintenance costs are recovered.
What makes a site good for geothermal electric development?
Answer: Hot geothermal fluid with low mineral and gas content, shallow aquifers for producing and reinjecting the fluid, location on private land to simplify permitting, proximity to existing transmission lines or load, and availability of make-up water for evaporative cooling. Geothermal fluid temperature should be at least 300º F, although plants are operating on fluid temperatures as low as 210º F.
How much water does a plant require?
Answer: The flow required depends on the temperature of the fluid, the ambient (sink) characteristics, and the pumping power required to supply and dispose of the fluid. Excluding fluid pumping, a closed-loop binary-cycle geothermal power plant would need 450 to 600 gallons per minute (gpm) to generate 1 MW from a 300° F fluid with an air temperature of 60° F. If the fluid temperature were only 210° F, one would need 1,300 to 1,500 gpm to generate the same amount of power. If an evaporative cooling system were used, 45 to 75 gpm of make-up (clean) cooling water would also be required to generate 1 MW.

Why not start with Section 9 of the Constitution giving foremost place to Buddhism?
Or, we can focus on implementing egalitarian laws which are not being implemented, as opposed to fixating on systems like Thesavalamai which are largely irrelevant (as Sinhalese are not seeking land in Jaffna). We could start with implementing our Official Language provision in our Constitution regarding both Sinhala and Tamil as official languages.

Well said. We must have a strict Immigration and visa regime. I saw to myself how a dozen of tiger activists who came in my flight got through the immigration at Katu in 1987/88 where a customs officer escorted them through and the immigration officer was a Sinhalese with a beard who also took a bribe from a Pakistani business trader who came in a flight from either India or Pakistan. I saw this man giving money to this officer and when he went through the customs he was not checked at all.
The group who travelled with us was told by someone at the travel counter that VP was killed(though it was a rumour) and these people one of them was a young female doctor whose seating was spread all over the plane somehow got the cabin crew to put them together on the long stretch of rows that was meant for parents with infants. This goes to show how determined to get their way in the island but last August when I have paid for my seat in the business class my allocated seat with my wife was altered inside the plane where a business man(looks like Tamil) had occupied my allocated wife’s seat and refused to budge and we had to travel separate. He was demanding many things in the flight and looks like a seasoned traveller familiar with the crew.
Then as recently as 2005 as I was waiting for my wife to arrive from Singapore there came an over weighted Tamil business man who had 2 trolley loads and these trolleys were pushed to his vehicle by a customs man and a security man in blue shirt. These guys forge friendships with the unsuspecting officers of our government thus compromising the scurity.Terrorists in their unwritten manual penetrate the system with small gestures like buying a gift for the victims wife or child them move on to ask or give other small favours a little bit more and on. I think people like MPs J.J has fallen to it and that’s why he was hell bent in getting the communications equipment through the AP.I worry for govt MPs and officers getting trapped in such schemes when travelling abroad as bribe of money is attractive to such people.
