At least two unidentified aircrafts have entered the skies over Colombo and the city’s air defence system has been activated. More information is not available as of this moment.
Update: One of the aircraft involved in the attack was shot down a short while ago near the Air Force Base in Katunayake. A body which is suspected to be of the pilot has been recovered.
Meanwhile a building of the Inland Revenue department in Colombo fort has been damaged. Around 25 people injured in the incident were admitted to hospital.
Update 2: Both aircraft has been shot down. Meanwhile the aircraft shot down near Katunayake has crashed inside the HSZ. It appears that the plane carried a large amount of explosives. Even the pilot himself seems to have carried several hand grenades.

But what really depresses me is the knowledge that more of our soldiers will sacrifice their lives and limbs in the coming weeks and months because the LTTE will not stop fighting for a lost cause. The only crumb of comfort that soldiers families will gain is that at least their sacrifices are not in vain. i.e the destruction of the LTTE's military units without a pause for ceasefire talks, unlike the past.

Stop for a moment and think of the whole thing from a third party point of view. To do that you have to read up on the history books written by independent sources. Try reading English records on the rule in Sri Lanka. The last Ceylonese rule to fall in Sri Lanka was the Kandyan Kingdom.
And Tamils never ruled Sri Lanka as a whole. There was a Kingdom in Jaffna and a Kingdom in Kandy which both paid taxes to the Kotte Kingdom in that time.
So please do get the facts right Ajanthan.

For me Sinhala does not originate from a lion and "HEla".
My facts are backed by writings in the Mahawamsa. The lion flag is associated with the country since King Vijaya landed at Mannar carrying a lion flag.
Therefore you cannot place much trust in the "Singha Ba" story which goes on to build up into a scenario which suggests that Sinhalese are born of Lions.
One thing proved by medical science is that a Lions' sperm cannot fertilise a human egg.
The other logical explanation for Singhala is that it was built up from Siu (meaning four) Hela.
Meaning 4 Helas. May be it was from four different administrative areas, or four different provinces in the country. I guess no one will ever find out for sure.
So if that was the meaning.....
Everyone in the country is a singhalese.... There is a book written by Geoffry Bawa the famous architect in SL where he refers to many Tamils being welcomed abroad as Ceylonese. This wod Seylon in turn reflects Singhala.... thus the 4 HELAS.
Now lets look at eelam.
In tamil you do not start with the "h" sound.... in fact there is no proper "H" sound in the Tamil Language. So If you try to spell HELA in Tamil.... it would sound like EELA..... plus the M .... bingo .... it gives EELAM......
Further proof to this kind of dilution is the translation of the word "LANKA"...... Which in Sanskrit means ISLAND....... In tamil you do not start words with the "L" sound..... The "l" in tamil is always preceded by the "i" sound........ Therefore:

As i recall, it was the sla that was blowing up buses full of Sinhalese in poor Sinhalese areas to increase the hate of ltte. I wonder when all of you are going to wake up and smell the roses. If you think logically, why would tigers go and blow up a bus in some poor area when they could have done it in columo. ReplyDelete2 planes took off from a place suspected to be a narrow, straight road in Puthukudiyirippu. Army patrolmen heard a sound of an aeroplane even before it was picked up by radars at Vavuniya SFHQ.they notified colombo immediately and the gunners took positions all over Colombo awaiting LTTE toy planes. once they reached Colombo AA gunmen opened fire lighting one plane up, which crashed into the Inland revenue building. unfortunately upon the impact the bomb inside the plane went off killing the pilot on the spot and destroying the plane. it also caused some damages to the Inland Revenue building & injured few ppl there. After this incident the other plane aborted the mission and escaped. This plane was then shot at by the AA gunmen in Katunayaka airbase. Plane crashed immediately into a marsh. Intelligence says that their mission has been to destroy Kfir/Mig hangars at Katunayaka and attack Air Force HQ in Slave Island. Thanks to the AA gunmen many lives were saved. Prabha punda must be so pissed off!!!

ReplyDeleteAll I cannot understand is how all of sudden air force was successfully down these small planes. May be government upgraded air defense system or tigers change their tactics to kamikaze? Previously it maybe bombed and escaped successfully but the damages was done is less physical except reputation and fearing the people. And this type of weapon release system has no accuracy of releasing bomb to the desired target except trying luck of hitting the target with four. Anyway this is a total failure to them not even being close. Since all interceptors work on heat seeking missile system and it is not working when engines are not generating enough heat to guide to the target. It is mainly from AA fires I believe. These planes can withstand few shots of AA firs unless engine, pilot or other vital part is not damaged. Even taking off doesn’t needed sophisticated runaway even lawn or part of the road can be used in this purpose. The captured strips are not vital to the planes to take off.

Here is another bit of advice from my friends here from the aviation fields to the SLAF.There is a likelihood of any future plane might use a very cheap navigational equipment in addition to the hand held gps that will zoom in on the airport’s DME and any sign of approaching aircraft switch this off the DME and warn the civil air crafts and ask them only to use the ILS or perhaps to put them in a holding pattern at 8K feet until the danger is over.

I do not believe that they (so called LTTE air force) started their mission from Puthukuduirrippu region as the Keheliya (alias tom pachaya) disclosed to media.
As of Friday, so called region was surrounded by our forces and best of the best were there to attack the LTTE.
If the Keheliya’s claim was true, the 30000 odd forces in the north are in danger.
Reason they do not have the equipments to bring down a low flying air craft.
So what should I believe? the keheliya’s pacha or the other?
If these were owned to LTTE, then they might be using a tiny island towards north or something in Dhanushkody. Given the facts that they do have small planes, they can easily hide them inside a small island near Puttlam or any other region. Dhanushkody too a safe heaven for them and can be hide any of their hardware easily.
I do not believe that the AA fire brought down the air craft in Colombo. Video footage clearly showing that Air Craft was operational tills the last minute.
Most of these air crafts were appeared when there is a bill at the parliament against the mass public. Sometimes back they used the story of destroying floating ammunition dumps in the deep seas.
My point is that, so called Junta with the help or some tamil fractions operating these planes.
If its LTTE, they might directing these against the ARMY else they might ends up hitting a Dam or a power plant like Sapugaskanda or Kerawalapitiya. They never did that.
It seems this as a joke done by government. Do not take this as a blame for military forces. Heroes, we salute you.
Do chase out the LTTE assholes, then we need you to chase out the corrupted regime.

Reasons;

3. No space for alternative ideas
4. Boasting about the history but nothing happened during the recent past
I never saw such a lazy people around the world.
They are good in identifying errors on others but never see what’s on their side.
You will see thousands of blogs supporting the patriots or the soldiers.
They will waste hours of time to post war tactics and to show their faith using words. But none of them will come forward to help the families of the victims of the war.
I’ve lost couple of close relatives and bunch of friends due to the war. Most of them were wearing the uniforms and were KIA. They scarified their lives for their motherland expecting a better life for their beloved ones. But it took years to obtain the government declared relief package. They got harassed from the government agents. They got military honors but life of their bellowed ones got worsened due to the malpractices in the corrupted system.
I’ve shoot mail asking for help from the so called members behind this blog and thousands odd patriots. None of them came to help the armed forces. Its easy for them to challenge anybody over here rather than doing it practical.
Worst thing is they do not know the meaning behind Sinhala. Sinhala is a mix of four cultures. There were people before the wijeya’s arrival to thamrapanni. There was a civilization before the inauguration of Sinhala. Therefore we can not tell that this is owned to Sinhalese.
As I told earlier, these fellows won’t listen to anyone. They are blind with political agendas.
We need to build a bridge between all the religious groups.
I assume that most of the Sinhalese are Buddhists. Therefore they should know how to categorize the low cast and upper caste. They should know whats behind the wasala sutta.
But I am ashamed, they do not know single piece from the lord buddha’s dhamma.
So what we are trying to discuss over here won’t become a reality in this life time.
This tiny nation will ruined and will remain in the history books.
I do wish to remain as Buddhist in my next life time, but not in this country.

parliament by saying that the LTTE is a terrorist organization and that they are responsible for the misery of Sri Lankan Tamils during the last thirty years. There was an instant uproar and the LTTE gallery was calling for his blood. Later this week, as the Sunday Times puts it, Pranab did a complete sumersault. He is now calling for negotiations between the Govt of Sri Lanka and the LTTE.
Today Pranab was interviewed by a TV reporter on India Now who solicited his views on Pakistan's Govt entering into a permanent ceasefire with the Taliban in the Swat Valley. With a sanctimonious face Pranab said "India is very concerned about this situation and that India does not
negotiate with terrorists." Wow ! Two sumersaults in one week.
According to the Sunday Times, the U.S. Pacific Command has offered logistics support to evacuate Tamil civilians and some sort of team from that entity may already be in Sri Lanka. It seems Pranab too is coming to Sri Lanka in two weeks. I don't think the Indians want the Americans in their back yard especially after they have made similar unsolicited offers to Sri Lanka. I would not be surprised if Pranab
puts a stop to this matter when he makes his unwelcome visit to Sri Lanka.
In a related development, there is mass chaos in Tamil Nadu courts. Dr Subramaniam Swamy, Leader of the Janata party (he is also a practicing lawyer), attempted to appear in court only to be thrashed by a group of pro-LTTE lawyers in the presence of the judge and the police. It is said that due to the lawyers strikes the courts have only functioned for ten days this year.
The day after the Swamy incident police arrested 15 lawyers involved in that matter, and it looks like all hell has broken loose since then. The lawyers have burnt a police station and vandalized cars. In turn the police have lathi charged them (the lathi is the long cane
stick used by Indian police), destroyed some of the lawyers vehicles,and cracked a few skulls in the process. Today the Chief Justice of India K. G. Balakrishnan (who is also Tamil) called for calm. The head
of the lawyers association interviewed on TV today said that the only way they will stop is if all of the top cops from the DGP (equivalent to the Sri Lanka IGP) are arrested and remanded, and if their jailed colleagues are released.
All of these incidents in TN (yesterday another lunatic set himself on fire and killed himself)are instigated by LTTE agents and their supporters who hope that the Indian Govt will turn the screws on the Sri Lanka Govt and thereby give the LTTE some relief.
(since I did this post yesterday, Chief Minister Karunanidhi has announced that he will go on a hunger strike till the police and lawyers bury the hatchet. Also, the President of India has announced the appointment of a new Chief Justice to the Madras High Court).

Then came the Aryans with Wijeya.
This land was called heladiv.

But I am bit oppose to the fact that Buddha chase them out from here.

Yesterday I was reading an article saying that IDPs were sent in to few camps and now they are surrounded by Armed forces. They are hardly getting the permission to contact the people in other parts of the country.
Such a practice will break the trust.
What our forces has to do is, check the background, check whether they having any relatives or the finance and let them live peacefully in any part of the country till the war ends.
Otherwise we will be doing the same thing as LTTE.
Being a buddhist, married to a christian I do oppose the bloodbaths for the sake of religion or for the ethnicity.
Our younger generation should identify this as soon as possible.

How many of us know that the elephant printed with a man wearing a cap near it, appearing on the 1,000/- rupees notes, has an astonishing story behind it?
Every one of us familiar with the Rupees 1000/- notes for its size,
colour and so on will not know about the factual story of the elephant
and the man with the cap near it, printed on the 1000/- rupees notes
that are now in circulation in Sri Lanka.
Can anyone imagine that the elephant and the man wearing a cap near it are from the eastern province and the man is a Muslim? Yes, they are from the eastern province. The man is Umar Lebbai Panicker from Eravur in the Batticaloa district and the tusker in the note was caught in
1925 in the Eravur forest and reared by him.
It is said Umar Lebbai Panicker presented this tusker to Dalada
Maligawa and within a short period it escaped from there and went in search of him to Eravur. He brought it back again and handed over to the Dalada Maligawa.
His Excellency President late J.R. Jayawardene in order to honour the long services of the tusker had declared it as a national asset in 1984. This tusker named as Raja adored the Esala Perehera processions
in Kandy and thus became national fame and honoured nationally.
After this, the government in power then, decided to honour the person presented this elephant to Dalada Maligawa by printing the picture of him with the tusker nearby, on the notes of rupees 1000/- and the village Eravur was thus honoured by this action.
The tusker Raja that served in Dalada Maligawa and brought fame and honour not only for itself but also to the person presented it to Dalada Maligawa and the village Eravur finally died on July 15, 1988 after serving 50 years in the Maligawa.
"Panicker "is a name given to people who catch elephants in the
forest, rear them and sell to people involved in business,
transporting or carrying very heavy materials and things. Their
decedents are still identified as "Panicker Thaththi" or "Panicker
Kathara"in Eravur. There is a road in Eravur known as 'Panicker Veedy' named after their name.

Feb 24, Colombo: India is ready to provide all necessary help to facilitate the process of bringing innocent civilians to safety and to meet their humanitarian needs for relief materials, medicines and medical care, the Indian government said today.
In a statement Indian Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi today, following reports that the LTTE has declared its willingness to discuss international appeals to allow civilians to leave rebel held areas, appealed to the Sri Lankan Government and to all concerned to work out appropriate and credible procedures for the evacuation of IDPs to safety.
The international agencies should be able to oversee the movement of the IDPs and the sanctity of the safe zones must be respected by both sides, the External Affairs Ministry stressed.
Observing that small numbers of medical evacuees have indeed been brought out of the conflict zone for the last few days by sea, the Indian government urged all concerned to make it possible for much larger numbers to be brought out both over land and by sea.
India is working out modalities with the Government of Sri Lanka to arrange for early dispatch of medical help and medicine to reach sick and injured civilians, the statement said.

The Indian Election Commission announced today the poll dates for the Lok Sabha elections. Under India's system of staggered voting, the election will commence on April 16 and end on May 13. Votes to be counted on May 16.
ReplyDeleteEven before the announcement by the Election Commission, campaigning had started in full swing. Statements from Indian politicians regarding Sri Lanka are going to be more hysterical in days to come (not that the tone is not hysterical now).
Pranab Mukerjee is basically the Acting PM now. In the hope of wooing TN voters, his statements on Sri Lanka are getting more irrational by the day.
Manamohan Singh is nowhere to be seen in public. He appears to be severely incapacitated after his second major heart by-pass operation. I think the old men of Hindoostan will fade away after the election. Rahul Gandhi, who looks like a Bollywood star, is the real claimant to the throne. In a country where the majority of the electorate are young, he has urban youth appeal. Two days ago, the old man who leads the opposition, Advani, publicly chided one his constituent elements, the fundamentalist Bajrang Dal, for going on rampage on Valentine's day in the southern city of Managalore (they invaded some pubs and parties and physically assaulted "decadent" women and men who were celebrating valentine's day). After enjoying western style freedoms and lifestyles for the past decade, it is difficult to imagine the hip urban young voting for the "Hindu Taliban."
Congress believes that they will win handsomely in the polls. Therefore, it looks like they will go it alone in the polls, and form the coalitions after the outcome is known.
As an outside observer, I think there is some possibility that some of the regional Southern parties that were previously with the BJP-lead UDA coalition joining hands with Congress in a coalition government. The southern regional parties are not Taliban-like in their outlook as the southern Indian states have a reputation for religious and ethnic tolerance. Therefore, it is inconceivable for them to be allied with a fanatical religious party like the BJP except for political expedience.
There has been some speculation that the AIDMK and the Telegu Desam Party of Andra Pradesh (several months back Milinda Moragoda while on a tour of India met with the TGP Chief Chandra Bandu Naidu)joining Congress if Congress returns to power. If such a coalition comes about, the Indian political establishment will be less intrusive and tolerable for Sri Lanka.
In any event, with the clock now ticking in India towards elections, the war in Sri Lanka hopefully will be concluded soon before it becomes a major electoral issue.
