Several photos of dead LTTE leaders released

Since some of our readers were skeptical about the claims in previous article on senior LTTE leaders being annihilated by the army, here are some photographic proof to back up those claims. More pictures will be released to the media once preliminary investigations by a special MI team are over.

Images: Magnetic Bomb

With recent findings by the Military Intelligence (MI), there has been renewed interest on the so called magnetic bomb.

This is not an entirely new technology as a similar type of bomb was used to blast the vehicle of a VIP few years ago. However the bomb seems to have been improved over time. The 'easiness' of planting this bomb onto a vehicle with an unsuspecting driver, is alarming. Recent discovery of a magnetic bomb coupled with the recent uncovering of an LTTE plot to blow up a fuel tanker, only calls up for more vigilance among civilians.

Images: LTTE regiments

Here is a list of images of LTTE formations, released by the organization that calls itself 'photography unit of the LTTE'. Although these images are accessible from http://aruchuna.net/, it will not be an easy task if you do not know Tamil language.

It is apparent that majority of these images are taken during training exercises. Some images are of course outdated; for example images from the Jejanthan regiment show footage from their bases in eastern province, which fell to the army last year.

STF Training

Special Task Force or the STF is the elite counter terrorist force of the Sri Lanka Police. It was founded in 1983 and by now employs more than 8000 highly trained personnel. After the Tamil Tigers began their campaign for a separate homeland, STF's primary task has been to defend the eastern province from LTTE threats. Their latest counter terrorist operation (Operation Niyathai Jaya) saw the fall of more than 20 mini LTTE camps in the Ampara region.

Artillery Regiment

Last August, LTTE deployed a large number of cadres in an attempt to recapture the Jaffna peninsula which fell to the Army in 1996. Thanks to the army's infantry, artillery and mechanized units, LTTE offensive was halted in the forward defense lines of Muhamalai and Kilali. These photographs show the artillery regiment in action during the battle for Jaffna.
