27 child soldiers released - LTTE

Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) today (13th) claimed that they had released 27 child soldiers who were previously recruited by the outfit. According to the LTTE, there are 30 more child soldiers in their ranks, whom they will be releasing in the near future. According to our information, the number of child soldiers still in LTTE's ranks is more than 100 times the number declared by the tigers. These somewhat humorous claims by the LTTE comes at a time when seven divisions of the Sri Lanka Army are in the process of surrounding LTTE's northern stronghold.

It is no secret that the LTTE engages in forcible recruitment to expand the manpower of the organization. It is believed that the manpower of LTTE is somewhere between 20000 and 30000, including the so called civilian militia. Child soldiers play a strong role in the outfit, completely different to the one partrayed by LTTE's claims today. When fresh fighting broke out in 2006, SLA units intercepting LTTE radio transmissions were able to monitor new LTTE formations with new callsigns, indicating that the rebels never stopped recruiting, even during the ceasefire agreement. Most of the less experienced and young fighters of the LTTE are assigned to forward defence line positions to face the battle hardened formations of the Sri Lanka Army. There have been occasions where the Army recovered bodies of child soldiers killed in battle and returned them to the LTTE. In such occasions, pro LTTE Tamilnet could be observed reporting "X number of bodies of youth, which the SLA claims are of LTTE fighters, were handed out" or in a similar format, while never directly accepting that they were in fact child soldiers.

168 comments:

  1. Why sudden change of heart? How about the other 100's if not 1000's of child soldiers? Is this another gimmick by the LTTE? I will be glad if/when even a single child is given back his/her childhood.

Why don't SLA give the LTTE a big "Thank You" present with SLA providing air support and SLN covering the sea?

A student from Toronto arrested in Colombo with weapons and chemicals

    June 13, 2008 01:59 pm

A Toronto man has been arrested in Sri Lanka after police seized an array of electronics, including heat-seeking devices, that were shipped from Canada.

Kajan Irampamoorthy, a 20-year-old student, is being held in the capital Colombo and questioned about whether the materials were destined for the Tamil Tigers guerrillas.

He was taken into custody more than two weeks ago, shortly after he arrived in the country, according to government officials. He is a permanent resident of Canada.

The seized materials allegedly include an AimShot HeatSeeker 3500b, which uses thermal sensors to locate targets by detecting their movements and body heat.

A description of the device on the manufacturer's Web site says it uses the "latest military and law enforcement thermal heat-sensor technology," but that it can also be used for hunting or search-and-rescue.

Police also seized PDAs, CDs, and five bags of chemicals similar to aircraft grease. The items had apparently been shipped by courier from an address in Scarborough.

Investigators in Canada and Sri Lanka are now trying to figure out what Mr. Irampamoorthy was doing in Colombo and why he was in possession of the electronics and chemicals.]

I have been begging MOD personnel to install scanners in all luggage at BIA Airport and colombo port container scanning for this type of dual use equipment that can be easily bought into the country for the LTTE.

Please scan ALL those luggage and Containers!

  4. Sadly, this LTTE announcement is not for you DN, it is for UN/IC/INGo and our HR champions. You and me don't beleive LTTE, but these HR heros and INGOs have full trust on LTTE (even though it fails from Mavilaru to Palampidi.) Expect wide publicity from int. media for this 'good' act from LTTE while opposite for GSL 'allaged' HR violations.

//.."X number of bodies of youth, which the SLA claims are of LTTE fighters, were handed out" ..//

Well, not about age, LTTE even don't say they are their caders. However, when SLA go to Kili, chi we see how many 'heros' are their in cemetries.

My brave SLA father, who “truly did” your beloved thala-thel reeking momma (upside down, then downside up), told me that it was you who had problem in “staying in the oven” and not me! You restless naughty bastard!

    LMSSAO!!!

It was common knowledge that due to the constant breathing of toxic vapor of the SLAF PGM munitions, although your father was the same as mine from the SLA Special Forces, your LTTE whore-momma (who “rented” herself to SLDF rather gleefully, mostly to fulfill deprived carnal pleasures) with the greatest difficulty gave birth to a tadpole at just 4 months (a head swollen frog-like creature) and somehow the illegitimate, brain-damaged, ugly bastard ended up in the US as bogus Tamil refugee!

No, I was a full-term baby from proud Indo-arya parents (I am today 6ft and 230lbs today)…but I guess I must pay my respects to you as you are indeed, well kinda, my ½ brother although we both know your mother was a cheap LTTE “leg-curler” from Jaffna.

Now if you were only serious and provided that they are NOT LTTE cadres, I could try to have them yanked into safety (I will not say “by whom” or “how” due to obvious reasons, but suffice it to say that I have acted as the “conduit” thus far to help 3 Tamil families to get to the safety in the South, all having children, but one in particular with three teenage girls, over the past 2 years); Evidently, these people had enough of the mythical “thamileelam” and just wanted to get away and LIVE and out of the three, two families are today abroad while one is still in Colombo.

  26. The fate of a f****** foe - The End Game

General Fonseka thinks the big brute, Prabha, is holed up in a bunker, somewhere in Mullathive area. It sounds possible due to its closeness to the sea - as an escape route - and his relative familiarity with the terrain. The great soldier is a pragmatist, not a day-dreamer.

There had been instances when Prabha cheated death and capture, according to his own admissions. It was reported, about twenty years ago of course, that he hid himself in a gunny bag, to pass a army checkpoint with the flow of civilians. How do we know about it? It is Prabha, who said this, or more accurately, boasted about it. Events of this kind made the mythical creature that he is - by himself, for self-promotion.

That was twenty years ago. However, factors of advancing age, over-weight, a catalogue of health problems and above all our dear DPU,that did not exist twenty years ago, do not make those stunts possible any more; certainly, inside gunny bags, folks, unless he can turns himself into a python, using his mystical powers.

When imminent danger stares in the face, we all turn to our gods. Our Buddhist folks are notoriously ill-prepared for this eventuality: they don't stop at worshipping or asking the blessings of Lord Buddha; they go after astrologers, Hindu gods and even Sai Baba. We all love to survive, folks. You can't blame them.

How about Prabha? I think he feels the same, quite rightly.

What are the options open to him? Is he religious?

I don't believe that he is a practising Hindu, despite his followers want us to believe that way.

I think he is a reformed athiest.

An athiest, because he believes in the Big Bang, the theory that says, the universe was created by a big explosioon.

A reformed one because, he thinks the universes thus created, must keep on exploding, at least on a softer scale, to maintain its existence - he has been blowing us up for thirty years and wants to prolong it.

The maximum radial distance from where-ever he is holed up, to the nearest artillery point is around twenty five miles. Unless he wears ear plugs, he may get a taste of that thundering noise. Sound, that travels at 320 metres per second, does not take that long to reach these iconic ears. It is not just scary, it is eerily frightning, if I put myself in his boots.

So, this believer in the Big Bang, has very little room for manourver. The cyanide capsule that he so proudly displays can show him the way out. But is he ready for it? I doubt it. How about asking a follower to shoot him and then dispose of the great body? He is too scared of it. How about crying his heart out among the disciples? Very likely.

This is an immature maniac, after all. I am sure he is about to prove that he is the biggest A****** of all the revolutioneries; by doing so, bringing shame on millions too, who accidently called him their beloved leader.

This time it is about Ethiopia; they say 6 million children are faced with the nightmare of starvation.

However, Ethiopian government say the whole population affected by the drought is 4 million.

Now, the UN has to come up with a way to fill this negaive gap of 2 million.

It is interesting to see how they are going to bridge this embarassing gap.

I think the whole organization has to commit mass masturbation to produce that many sperms.

This brigade is providing the security for Prabha.

Bhairav says he was killed in action; therefore, the most likely location where it happened is Mulathhive.

Now, we have to piece together this information:

the second-in-command of Imran Pandian died

the army attcked 1-4 base on five fronts

The army commander talked of capturing Prabhakaran alive

Bhairav tells us about the final recruitment drive in Mulathive by Tigers.

  39. I posted the below in Defencewire in relation to postings speculating Mahinda being defeated in the next budget owing to Cost of Living.. Like your ideas too..

    Here is my posting,

This country is full of naive put up on us by the politicians.

Lowering cost of living is every political party's main trump card.

The right thing which should be taking measures to increase,
    1. Affordability
    2. Living Standards

Unless there are government subsidies for everything, you can not lower cost of living overnight. Subsidies are very short-term measures.

Yes, there are certain things that we can do to lower cost of living in the long and medium term too,
    1. Reduce waste and corruption in the system (can be done and sustained if there is will-power). This is a major force.
    2. Increase productivity (lot of national-level effort required)
    3. Break Monopolies and Oligopolies i.e. breaking Prima Monopoly in wheatflower
    4. Erect barriers blocking parties making superficial profits i.e. bringing in laws to prescribe medication in generic names
    5. Be smart on high-ticket purchases, expenditure, and sales and look after national interests without looking at petty personal gains i.e. when purchasing military equipment, power-plants, when selling oil rights, phosphate mining rights etc etc

Having said all, the most effective thing we can do to lower cost of living is to increase Gross Domestic Production in Value Per Unit as well as increase the Volume. That means, we should be producing High Ticket with a high premium (which would bring in higher margins) items more.

We are in an Open Economy. Markets decide the price of everything. Therefore, all the measures you implement to lower costs are short-to medium term.

However, as a nation what we need to do is to increase relative per-capita income compared to the other nations. That means lot and lot of exports (both goods, services and brain power) needs happen. That is the only sustainable long-term measure in reducing cost of living while having all the other measures to lower cost of living is in place (not subsidies).

We should look into increase our goods and services exports. One of the best long-term measures we can do is to invest in quality education, and giving all the young generation to obtain at least university level 'quality' (not archaic) education. It naturally allows them to command much higher Rs. rate per hour for their brain utilisation.

Premadasa did a great job by at least giving a medium-term solution to increase affordability of people through 1000 garment factory program. After that no one was able to create that type of mega initiative, which could take it to the next level.

IT, Medical Research, R&D of all sorts, BPO and other related services could all contribute to increasing per capita income of people. However, there is no massive facilitation or initiatives taking place.

I think that MR created the Ministry for Special Projects to do that kind of projects. But the one who undertook that was not interested in the nation other than his pocket and his own fish business of allowing our fish to be harnessed by Japanese trawlers without paying a penny to Sri Lanka.

People should understand that lowering cost of living cannot be made by magic or changing a political party. That is the leader of the nation who should have the vision and courage to take the initiatives and properly follow-up.

Ranil has not got it -period. He is an utter loser and a traitor of the nation. This loser would sell the whole nation to LTTE and any other foreign country that Ranil worships.
But one day I am very optimistic that Sajith Premadasa would do it. In my thinking, after MR era, Karu Jayasuriya should fill a void for sometime until Sajith is ready. Unfortunately, Sajith has not yet got the maturity and resilience that MR has.
MR should now allocate more budgets to education. Increase the number of Universities and quality of their output. Allow universities to get fee-paid students and fund the other students through fees received from fee-paid students. Provide R&D subsidies for outsourced R&D functions. Encourage foreign companies to invest in Sri Lanka. Invest more monies on investment promotion. So many things can be done. Meanwhile he should be focusing on reducing waste and corruption too. I applaud him for braking Prima Monopoly.

  46. noltte=peace,

Agree with most of the points you have made, specially the ones on Ranil. However i have a different opinion about the approach our government should take to change the situation.

Increasing the productivity and cutting down unnecessary expenses are important but erecting barriers against free trade, impeding free trade and disregarding international patent rights will automatically put us in the bad books of WTO and some bureaucrat sitting in Geneva will issue an arbitration ruling to send us ten years back in international trade. True that we do not have the $$$ to pay for all the high priced branded medicine, I know where you're coming from but there are so many other things we could do without getting in to that kind of trouble.

I think we are now experiencing these difficulties as a result of years, decades of bad macroeconomic policies set without clear strategic goals plus a major element which i would mention only at the end. Even though the central bank is showing positive GDP growth numbers, we are not getting anywhere in the business cycle but experiencing full scale effects of stagflation. To overcome all this and increase the per capita, living standards etc etc, as you have rightly said, we need to figure out ways to increase the real GDP growth - that is the only way. There are several ways to do this but the real question is can we apply them in Sri Lanka at this point

Increase in household consumption, which normally accounts for about 60% of GDP(not sure about the number in SL) will make an impact(in SL) but with the low per capita income and high inflation,i do not think there will be a huge increase in consumer spending on durable stuff. Non-durables will remain the same (but if oil increases anymore :D consumption will go further down)

Next method to increase the GDP, which is one of the best along with net exports will be increase in private investments. This normally accounts for about 14-18% GDP (again not sure in SL context) and will have a direct and quick impact on the real number and if investments come in hard currencies in the form of FDI's, we will see some really good results, really fast BUT can we achieve that ? In my opinion, it would be very very difficult.

Situation in SL is not conducive for business in general and it would be really difficult to attract FDI's with bombs going off in Colombo every week and even if they come in, it will be a very cautious investment with a hidden agenda unless they are into insurance or something. (thats my thinking) However, if we can achieve this, FDI's will create jobs, increase the general level of income of the people, create new industries, supporting industries, improve both capital and current accounts, increase exports and drive the GDP. But if foreigners are reluctant to invest, next option for Investments would be local investors. But can they ? In my opinion they can not. Commercial lending rate is around 22% and inflation is sky high. Manufacturing with imported raw materials is getting increasingly difficult with rupee depreciation and even if they are produce them there wont be enough consumer spending to generate expected sales since high cost of living has forced more than half the population to spend only on essentials.

Next option is increasing government consumption and expenditure. It can create sales for local producers to drive the economy but with high spending on war, wastage and social welfare and subsidies, i don't think there is enough left for us to even service the massive outstanding debts !!

Last option is increasing the net exports but with high oil prices and rupee depreciation (for raw material imports) and high labor costs, high borrowing rates, high energy cost, low productivity and efficiency, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the local industries to complete with foreign competitors.

These are actual problems we have in SL and lately i have been talking with several Sri Lankans who are seriously affected with these issues. One can say "at least the rupee is depreciating with all the major currencies to help exporters" but inflation is around 28% :D so whoever thinks that can do the math ( core inflation does not count in this calculation)to see the effect and importantly, it is only just one element in this equation.

How did we get in to this trap? In my opinion, as mentioned above, bad macroeconomic policies and lack foresight and vision of the politicians. Successive governments have completely failed to manage the cycles to expand the economy when they had many options available, they only did that in their annual central bank reports, not with their polices. It is known fact that current monetary policy has increased the money supply and that it is driving the borrowing interest rates up. At a time like this when local industries are struggeling, fiscal policy is further screwing them up with high and complex rate structure. All these elements work together like a vicious cycle but the most important point that has affected the real growth of economy, which i did not mention before is the WAR. Whoever reads the above few paragraph's will see and understand how it has helped the economy to fail so miserably and what kind of negative effect it has on GDP growth.

We got only one solution, that is the only way out of this mess and that is stopping the war. When i say stop, i meant by militarily defeating the LTTE, not by going back to negotiating table.

With two decades of real life peace negotiating examples, LTTE has made it crystal clear to all of us that they do not want to settle this through negotiations. And past one and a half or so years of real life examples have shown us that LTTE can be militarily defeated. True that we need more responsible government and better policy makers to get there but the root cause is the LTTE and their decades of terror. So lets start developing Sri Lanka by wiping out the LTTE and result of that would be = Economic boom ( even with bad policy makers)

    No time to proofread.

I agree with your reference to some points of bringing down the cost of living, but not that of the Monopoly of Prima.I know the Prima people and I too have been qualified and worked in flour technology in UK and it is too sophisticated bit of technology in turning the grains of wheat in to the fine flour we are being sold by Prima, truly world class, compared to rubbish flour we had since WW2,if anyone could remember. There is no capacity for another factory in SL,unless the gosl expect us to just to grind the wheat and make substandard wheat for substandard bread. Until prima came we were buying rejected flour for bread making, that is meant food like dog biscuits and pet food, some even donated this rejected part of the flour industry to the third world as aid and until I learnt the subject and worked in UK in this industry for a shot time, didn’t know how we were fed with the most awful left over of that industry.
Only way to fight the inflation in the country, fight the future energy crisis, which will be global is to learn the way business is conducted in the Western countries at present. they will find a solution to any problem that may come to them in future, should they be energy, defence, enviorment, shortage of food etc.China is putting a great effort to follow them and they are spending an unprecedented amounts in educating their young in the West.Hon President should have noticed so many Chinese students in the Oxford town and several walked in to listen to him at the Oxford union talk. likewise Cuba to is sending their people here to study the way things are done and I heard from a very patriotic Sinhala person that visited Cuba, that their best hotels are run or supported by Thomas Cooks, while our government is foolishly deporting or cancelling the visas of foreign persons who are running our infrastructure projects and business ventures. Our leaders of all hues have no vision for our country but being utterly selfish and Hippocratic and this is why this terrorist battle will never end as long as we too have double standards and have very little accountability to their voters. As long as our leaders mock democracy, we will not get any help and support from the developed IC,but they keep coming to the same countries they so despise and I wonder who the real hypocrites are?

Prima got how many years to monopolize the Sri Lankan market according to the initial agreement with JR ?

In my opinion, they were compensated with more than enough interest for bringing in this "high tech" production process to SL

It should be logical to follow people who find the solutions to any problem that we may find in future or at present. Will you not eat in a restaurant that serve the best and the tastiest food? I am involved in technology, not just reading other people’s work or re inventing the wheel again. We here foresee problems and find solutions as well without blaming others. In SL we have to come out of the mindset were we are blaming the colonials for dividing and rule, conspiracy theories of these countries, without ever reflecting on our own faults. We in UK will find a solution to any problem that we may face and we may not even want the oil from the middle east in future as there are other alternatives available right here. likewise Sri Lanka should also must find solutions to its problems like food production within it’s own boarders, without going all over the world, begging for food and some people should not waste large amounts of money in extravagant worthless trips abroad but stay at home and save that wasted money to grow food in vast areas in the East that have been neglected due to war.1 million US dollars that may have cost these trips can do wonders to our economy, that has be recent wasted in trips to UK and other countries. This is part of corruption don’t you think? I am concerned much because much of our kin living in SL are having a very hard time now.

Jr was not involved with Prema.I think it was CBK who signed the agreement with Prema costing nearly 65 million US dollars. It's not correct to sabotage Prima, when late Jaraj tried to bring cheap flour from India. That's not the way to do bussiness or encourage foreign investments in SL.Their investments are doing well in Vietnam and other places and in good coutries the quality products that are produced in the country is susidized by the state to keep it business, unless you need substandard products.I am glad that the prima has a rival.

  68. noltte=peace,

a fantastic post mate. althought not DIRECTLY defence related cost of living management has a HUGE impact on the war.

i agree with most points you are making.

BUT mate i disagree with the OVERALL apporach you have taken, with due respect.

i believe in a TOTAL CAPITALIST system. first as you said industries must be "cleaned" of monopolies, etc. companies with producers' ownership must be set up to do intermediary business. these will,
    1. SUSTAINABLY reduce the COL
    2. give the INFLATIONARY benefits to PRODUCERS than INTERMEDIARIES (you also pointed this out).
    3. use the HIGH INFLATION for CAPITAL GENERATION for farmers, etc. so that we AS A NATION can overcome the FOOD CRISIS
    4. SCRAP SUBSIDIES totally EXCEPT some production subsidies that are essential. we MUST cost the TRUE COST of factors (subject to protection of some vital industries) ALWAYS otherwise alternatives remain UNATTRACTIVE.

e.g. why solar power and other renewable energy systems have not picked up in SL? because electricity is HEAVILY susbsidised that it is cheaper than solar power, etc.!! this is insane.

e.g. the saving from converting to gas becomes REALLY lucrative when the REAL cost of petrol is charged (when the shit hits the fan!!)

e.g. JHU has proposed to increase the times trains run. due to rediculous fares (still) even with most passengers paying fares honestly, each train service runs at a loss. by increasing the number of services (frequency) you only MULTIPLY the LOSSES!!!

    5. get rid of provincial councils and even pradeshiya sabhas (at least until we can afford them) and bring these under the central govt. let there be paid employees in urban development authority, etc. to carryout development work, etc.
you won't believe the amount of salary and overheads (let alone corruption, inefficiency) these whitre elephants cost. it is more than 50 BILLION rupees a year. some local authorities HAVE NO MONEY to carry out development work after overheads!!! this is complete crap. it further destroys infrastructure. on top of this the simplified system will save BILLIONS for people and businesses. NOW for a business project you have to take approval from 50 different places!

    6. a one-child policy as in china. this will be an EXTREMELY UNPOPULAR thing. but got to be done. i can't imagine how SL can survive with such a MASSIVE population and LOW resources. benefits can be seen within 10 years in a marked increase in the quality of life. within a generation, population will either stagnate or reduce. everyone will have jobs. abortion should be made legal although it is against my religious beliefs. there is no point in adding an additional human being if he/she cannot be cared for adequately. every child must be wanted and desired. also this will bust a MASSIVE blackmarket industry THRIVING in SL.

    7. unused land in vanni, etc. should be soon put to use when the war ends.

    8. the fcuking hambantota port which is more than 15 years in the pipeline (thank god it has strated construction 2 years ago) should soon start operations without any govt. imposed delays.

    9. make tax rate for ALL blue-chip companies ZERO. if john keells has a billion rupees with them as a result, that will earn trillions over the years. the samething in the govt. will produce more dependant agencies and fatcats.

    10. collect taxes without politics and corruption. collect ALL unpaid electricity, water, telephone bills, rates, defaulted bank loans (as much as possible).

    11. don't introduce additional taxes.

    12. start mass producing ethonol, etc.
for this crops, machines, factories, infrastructure should be in place.

MOST of the above points are NOT MINE. most of them are the views of some retired officers from govt. service. they have lived through the shitt. but i agree with them all. socialism has led SL into shitt from a STRONG capitalist system until 1948 which was the envy of none other than lee kwan yu!!

By doing so, the IC has acted irrationally, said Trond Jensrud, a ruling Labour Party (AP) politician of the Oslo Municipal Council while addressing the Pongku Thamizh rally held at Valle Hovin stadium in Oslo, the capital of Norway, on Saturday. 81. This post is on the economy but still i think there is some relevance.

    Moshe,

Total tax cut to blue chips !! One-child a family !! Start mass-producing ethanol !!

Those policies alone can take us thirty years backward.

You are proposing to sustainably reduce the COL but how do you think we can do that ?

To attract investments and to make the production productive, we have to increase the infrastructure of the country such as the road system, energy, ports etc etc. That is how Malaysians attracted billions of dollars in to their country as FDI's. Started with a massive infrastructure deveopment drive from roads to ports to air ports and then they started inviting labor intensive mass production such as garments and electronic goods assembling. But over the years they have moved in to knowledge based businesses and transfered the labor intensive components to other countries. Semiconductors are still manufactured in Malaysia but garments are not. This happens when the countries systematically develop and mature from developing to semi developed. They start paying more attention to environment policies, labour laws and overall betterment of the living standards of the people and thats when they start enforcing regulators.

We, Sri Lankans have failed to move from garment manufacturing to more profitable industrial knowledge based businesses and we have failed to attract to FDI's for them due to high risk, uncertainty in the country and shaky macroeconomic policies. Investments and exports create money and they can increase the income level of the consumers. Once the consumers start spending that money , local production will increase and GDP will improve. Consumer spending is the biggest driver of US economy for an example. Policy makers at that point should focus on how to sustain and support the growth. But the war is stopping the government from embarking on huge infrastructure projects, mainly due to capital constraints. Development agencies are not supporting us and other methods of borrowing are very costly. They come with high interest rates and short repayment periods. Government can not afford to burrow short term and invest them on infrastructure projects that will reap benefits in the long term, there's not enough to service the debt till then.

We are not blessed with natural resources. Our biggest resources is the human capital and their knowledge. Compared with other countries in the region, our population growth rate is very low (except for Muslims) so Chinese one-kid-a-family would be disastrous for a country like Sri Lanka (specially with an aging population). What we need is a good education system to improve this resource and develop them for the near future. Current education system should change completely. Our universities are still following ages old curriculams and their out put can not add real value to the country, its a fact. Most private entities prefer overseas qualifications than locals.

Moving in to ethanol from traditional energy source is your other proposal but it is not possible with the ricing food crisis. One of the biggest reasons for current food crisis in the world is the use of edible food stuff to produce ethanol. Specially by the developed countries where politically strong farmers are highly subsidized --> effect on that is on countries like Sri Lanka. BUT if we can produce ethanol without using edible food, it would be of great help to the country in many ways including bop, what do you have in mind ?

The point i want to make her is that we should not try to fire fight with symptoms of the real problem. High inflation, high interest rates, rising unemployment, bop deficits , increasing bankruptcies and social unrest are all symptoms, indicators of the real economic problem. We need to drill down to the root cause and give a solution to that. Government should give their maximum effort and all possible resources to eradicate terrorists once and for all, defeat them militarily since negotiations will be another huge loss and a mistake. War is not the problem but the solution for the terrorist problem.

Once that is done, government will immediately have massive amount of cash in the coffers, mainly in foreign currency to invest on major infrastructure development projects. Increased government expenditure will automatically increase the consumer income (one persons expense will be another persons income) and direct & indirect projects, contracts will create new employment. Stable country situation coupled with highly skilled and educated workforce will naturally attract relevant FDI's. More jobs will be created and their exports will increase the forex earnings and will further reduce the bop issues . Knowledge transfer through MNC's and improvements in supporting industries that will grow-in will further contribute to the GDP expansion. At the moment, corporate tax is one of the main revenue generating sources for the government. If we cut that in to Zero, where will we find money to develop roads ? who will fund Hambantota port ? Where will money come in for new power plants ? So at the moment it is not an option but when the economy starts growing, government can work on better fiscal policies to support the local industries.

We got to identify the real issue we have, luxury life style of ministers and their wives is a burden but if you take them as a percentage of the GDP its very small (IT DOES NOT mean that its right but it is not the real problem) they are only political slogans. Provincial council system should be abolished, no argument on that, it is a complete waste of money and has a huge impact on government spending. There is no real value addition to the country from that system. The conclusion is, we got to defeat LTTE, They have caused immense damage to this country in every way you can think of, i just don't know where to start analyzing on that and its not required anyway since everybody knows what happened. When the LTTE is gone, it will be just a matter of implementing right policies and good governance. Market forces will take care of the rest. (good governance hmm )

    firerain,
    1. no. our population growth rate is low in south asia. but compared to more developed nations in asia it is still high. we have a higher population per one square kilometre. this will cause lot of problems in the future like water shortages, housing problems, etc. etc.

    2. zero tax only on blue-chip companies (very few in number). some of them have zero tax subsidiaries already.

    3. higher economic growth benefits the poorest of the poor than anyone else. conversely low economic growth hurts them most.

capitalism is not an economic dogfight system. it is about valuing the little you got. it is what developed this country during the colonial time. we had a HUGE POSITIVE trade balance then.

the present system is about taxing those who contribute more to the economy (the more you contribute, the more you are taxed) TO FEED THOSE WHO CONTRIBUTE LESS OR NOTHING.

socialism has failed everywhere. china and india started their staggeting economic growth after embracing capitalism. unfortunately SL is more socialist than china, russia and india today!!!

even our prosperous history had a capitalist system, i read. there were no handouts then. there was no slavery then.

actually socialist stuff was fed into the majority by tamil and burger politicians in the 1940-60. they had similar "strange" views about the "ethnic problem" as well. majority's lack of hatred (to put it that way) of socialism has economically benefitted the minoroties. this should change. on the other hand if we didn't have these minorities who are skilled in business, SL would be poorer than now.

anyway i agree that others are entitled to their political views and i respect their views.

    ReplyDelete
  85. reo.mag.forever,

no, mate with due respect to your views. if you look at singapore, malaysia, etc. they had the capitalist system in place before infrastructure development. in malaysia it is companies that are building more highways not the govt.!!

attracting foreign investments is NOT the best way to go WHEN WE CAN HELP OUR OWN COMPANIES INVEST HERE BY ALLOWING THEM TAX CONCESSIONS.
remember profit accrues to the investor not to labourers. the higher the profit the more the re-investment. if foreign investors are all we have all the profit goes to them and we are forever labourers.

our best resource is TRAINED labour at the moment. BUT we should not be like this. OUR BEST RESOURCE SHOULD BE CAPITAL IN FUTURE.

i agree with you that we have not gone beyond what i call "slavery industries" - tea, house maids, garments. why?

because we LACK domestic capital generation. we had it in the past and now we have lost it. we can produce millions of labourers who are trying hard to beat the bangladeshi labourers who are more desperate and are willing to work for a fraction of our salaries. when rajiv ghandi opened IT training cetres, premadasa opened up garments!!! we can say at least garments but then what?

for LOCAL investors to re-invest there shouold be incentives. the best incentive is higher profits.

there is no point in having a huge population of labourers, it is better to have a sizable population of INVESTORS.

the ethonol issue is more complex than that. we cannot obviously sacrifice food producing land to produce ethonol!!! i agree. but we should use new land (there are aplenty) to do so while producing food crops as well.

but unless the producers are going to get a BIG share of the prices, they are going to go out of business. their incentive is also PROFIT. therefore the first thing to do is to have a mechanism where the producers get a BIG share of the ultimate price. they will be encouraged to produce more and more. the present system only encouraged the middlemen to increase prices more and more!!

Just as you say if producing from Edibles we can Use starch forming crops like Manioc or in a srilankan context we can implement it in Sugar cane..(with pe;awatta making 30,000 Liters of Ethanol per day currently & all of it ending up in ALCOHOL Production)
    :(
But If Going for Non Edibles...
The best crop for a Sri Lankan Context is jatropha EDARU in Sinhala.
    :)
See the link for more details.

    http://www.jatrophabiodiesel.org/aboutJatrophaPlant.php?_divid=menu1

The seeds of this plant is very rich in Oil & we HAVE Indian experience on this. Also can be used in places of soil erosion to minimize it.
the processing is also not a very complicated process.
Another Benefit is Bio Diesel produced from this can be used for Exhisting Diesel Engines without any modification!!
As Diesel is the major consern in public transport & as it is subsidised even Now...Only if the Authorities can pump some money in to this it would give us more energy independency in the long run.
The people with the Experience in this technology are in our country & Researches on these are also done. But the People in the controlling seat does not seem to care....

  91. Moshe,

Appreciate and thank you for the reply but i have a different thinking on the following,

In the new capitalist world, capital is not the power anymore !! Thats where we go wrong. Knowledge is power and it is the capital. Lets start with Malaysia as an example. True that private companies are involved with building infrastructure in Malaysia but how did it happen ? Malaysian government managed to attract huge development related grants at low interest rates to develop their infrastructure, mainly road system in the early years. Malaysian government, while building some by them, disbursed some of those funds to private firms. Some on long term lease projects. Interest cost was low and with forex in the countries current account, these firms managed to put up a successful system together with the government, that's what happened there BTW first Mr. 10% came from Malaysia ;D but they got the job done ). By doing that, Malaysian government helped local firms and industries and demonstrated policy of a good government should not be doing business but only facilitating.

Why cant we do that ? Commercial interest rate is around 22% and no foreign doner will grant us any money. And with our Sri Lankan mentality, if the government decides to privatize the roads or license them, "general public" will turn this place up side down --> our guys have deeply rooted socialist thinking. Anyways, the point is private firms are building them for the government and it is the infrastructure that came first not the investments.

"attracting foreign investments is NOT the best way to go WHEN WE CAN HELP OUR OWN COMPANIES INVEST HERE BY ALLOWING THEM TAX CONCESSIONS."

This is socialist and protectionist thinking my friend. Attracting FDI's is the best and the fastest method to kick start a stagnant economy. BOI status comes with a tax holiday in most industries so it is already there but our local capital availability and generation is not enough to expand the economy ! (reasons explained in the post before)

FDI's, be it greenfield or acquisition, whichever will bring in new technology, much needed foreign currency, export earnings, new job creation and better competition which will lead our local production to increase their productivity to stay in business and new supporting industries. Again, our asset is human capital, let the MNC's bring in money. This has been proven in many countries all over the world and countries who have attracted the highest flow and stock are the most developed now. Im not saying locals should not be supported, but we need more private investments. Take Malaysia, they have amassed a huge sovereign wealth fund and their government is investing with a long term view but what are we doing ?

"remember profit accrues to the investor not to labourers. the higher the profit the more the re-investment. if foreign investors are all we have all the profit goes to them and we are forever labourers."

This idea clearly stems from the traditional Marxist political and economic theory. Not capitalist thinking at all. Lets take the example of IBM going in to Mexico in 80's. IBM ventured in to Mexico to assemble computers there to capitalize on their comparative advantage of low labor costs. Because of this investment, overall efficiency of resource utilization in that industry increased significantly and the technology, know-how, capital and skills were also transfered to Mexico ans local suppliers and developers also improved. Export of the end product to brought in foreign currency. Early FDI's such as Volvo's investment in South Korea, GM in Japan are few examples. This method benefits both parties, host and the home country and for a country like Sri Lanka with low foreign income, it would be invaluable. Resulting economic growth will naturally create a new breed of local investors, real investors instead the traditional Hayles, JKH, Aitken Spence type only-in-srilnka-and-no where-else "blue chips".

As for intermediaries and brokers--> innovative and better informed, educated, "high-tech" farmers and producers with the help of right policies will overcome their market problem. Government intervention should be minimal. According to a recent research finding, main reason behind the Rice crisis in Sri Lanka is the government intervention !!

  94. [Moshe Dyan said... capitalism is not an economic dogfight system. it is about valuing the little you got. it is what developed this country during the colonial time. we had a HUGE POSITIVE trade balance then.}

Never forget that during the colonial time, our village folks were destined for a slow death with food prices which destroyed local agriculture orienting it toward tea/rubber/coconut. Only a few local families profited from the colonial system.

The purpose of the Capital is to seek more capital, by hook or crook. It gives a tremendous moving force to the economy, nothing remains stagnant. Most Capital plans on the short term and can leave a devastated landscape after its venture. So it is the duty of the Govt to guide this formidable beast called capital. But to do so, we need leaders who love people more than money. They also have to be endowed with a solid intelligence better than that of the Capital.

Our problem is that the foreign Capital is trying to buy the entire Govt, Ex. CBK was bought and settled in UK.

We are happy to live on "aids” and life continues ….

  96. Socialism is good on paper but it requires divinity from the government at all levels.

Watever politcial thinking we have it is critical that all Sri Lankans should be thinking about how they can help their communtiy rather trying to build themselves a little fortress. Its crazy that we rely on oil for a large portion of our electricity generation we should be using solar energy more+other renewable sources that are cheaper in the long run. We should also shift away from cash crops such as tea. What use has tea brought us? I'm sure we could have a different crop on our hills.

This war is bleeding Sri Lanka and we are sinking deeper into national debt everyday. It is critical for the economy that this war is won and ASAP.

It doubled following the doubling of the price of the barrel of petrol. It can have only a limited effect on SL prices.

Let me explain you what happend,

It started when the government imposed restrictions on Rice imports sometime back( to protect the local farmers) At the same time wheat supply went down due to many reasons and the prices also went up. Government actively campaigned to increase rice consumption and as a result of all these, rice consumption increased but the supply did not. If the government did not artificially controlled the market demand and supply, importers would have continued to import rice and balance demand would have been supplied by the local farmers but the intervention messed up the equilibrium and rice prices went up overnight, more than the equivalent price increases.

It is not the price "fixing" that reduced the tension but immediate importation of Rice from two countries. If the government did not intervene, price increase would have been proportionate and would not have been that intense. It is the whole sellers who had stocks who benefited at the end. That is what happened in Sri Lanka in short.

"It doubled following the doubling of the price of the barrel of petrol. It can have only a limited effect on SL prices." --> Correct, what caused it is explained above.

"Remember, the Govt intervened rightly and fixed the prices. And it works"

So as also explained in the above post, intervention came in to control the damage, after all the intermediaries made the profits, after the consumers paid the price.

Pelwatte only produce 3000 litters of industrial alcohol per day and alcohol for bodily consumption is important in a free society which has more advantages than diadvantages. In UK this industry alone gives jobs to over quarter of million people and the government derives 20% of it’s income from it’s taxes. Damage created to health and social discipline is minute enough to stop this industry, but same rules does not apply to smoking.
There is a vast scope to produce energy in SL if the government takes positive steps to give a lead to the private sector, which could raise the much need capital and expertise.

I think Govt is also a capitalistic enterprise, which is of a special kind because it has the possibility of judging life or death of its shareholders!!

When most of the people of a country are really patriotic, there is very little need for Govt intervention. Ex. India.

I think, in a country where certain main political actors do not believe in the future of the entity they govern and buy real-estate (Ranil/Australia, CBK/UK …) elsewhere, people must force the Govt for intervention where necessary.

  105. it seems that the barbarians are again getting ready to target civilians in the south.

TN reports that SLAF raids have killed 2 civilians and caused alot of havoc in putukudurippu and paranthan.

SLAF has confirmed that the puthukudirippu attack has been VERY successful.

K-ponint and paranthan was bombed repeatedly.

these must have caused IMMENSE losses to the LTTE.

TN also mentions about the excreta-maggots called the ellalan crap. this is a CLASSIC case of terrorism where terror is used to stop LRRP attacks and SLAF attacks.

as i always say retaliation (or re-retaliation) should have been used by the govt. if we stop LRRP attacks when terrorists attack civilains in the south, the next time they will attack civilians in the south and demand that SLAF attackes be stopped!!!

this is a joke. had the govt. stopped deep space attacks after the LTTE barbarians targeted civilians in the south, the above possibility is very high. expect bomb attacks on civilians this week.

at least now the govt. should deter LTTE attacks on civilians by VIOLENTLY retaliating EACH attack.
after the LTTE attacked a bus in kabithigollewa in 2006 SLAF bombed sencholai and at time THE GOVT.'S OFFICIAL POLICY WAS RETALIATION. with that terrorists stopped attacking civilians for a while.

there is no other way. if the monkey presses the button and gets a banana, there is nothing that can stop him pressing it EVERYTIME he wants a banana. if when he presses the button a meachanical arm hammers his head, he will never touch that button again.

this is the only way to condition LTTE subhumans.

SLAF fighter jets bomb preschool in Kumarapuram
    [TamilNet, Sunday, 15 June 2008, 05:48 GMT]
Two Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) Kfir fighter jets, in four sorties, bombed the Kaaththaan preschool area in Kumarapuram, Paranthan in Ki’linochchi Saturday around 1:10 p.m when the school children, teachers and parents were gathered for the school’s sports meet to begin, sources in Ki’linochchi said. 35 children, 2 teachers and the parents narrowly escaped death in the bombing which caused damage to the school building and ten houses, the sources added.

The children, teachers and parents who were all gathered on the playground fled in panic as the fighter jets dived and bombed.

Some of the children fell on the ground and were injured while running away from the playground in fright while the prizes to be awarded for the winners lay scattered in the scramble.

The preschool children were in a state of shock and mentally affected.

Most of the bombs, falling and exploding in the paddy fields in front of the preschool, damaged more than ten houses in the vicinity besides injuring a woman inside one of the houses.

The Mother Child Clinic, Women Workers’ Development Centre, Teachers’ Resource Centre of the Ki’inochchi Edcation Zone are all located just 300 meters from the place where the bombs hit.

An educational training workshop for female teachers and courses for teachers were in progress at the Teachers’ Resource Centre at the time of the bombing.

Meanwhile, a bull terrorized by the roar of the bombers attacked a woman causing minor injuries to her.

The Kaaththaan preschool was built under the North East Coastal Development Scheme with funds donated by the Asian Development Bank.

With regard to the Taliban attack, it was in Kandhahar where it took place. Its close proximity to Pakistan made it a worthwhile operation for Taliban. Nothing can be ruled out; we shouldn't drop our guard.

Prima came in to Sri Lanka during JR's time and he signed them in the late 70's. Initial BOT agreement for twenty or some years expired during Chandrika's time and she converted it in to a BOO contract with a further investment of 65 Mn from Prima. Thats the story in short.

During the twenty some years of BOT contract, Prima enjoyed a monopoly of an industry that contributed a huge percentage to the GDP and millions of Sri Lankans who ate anything that was made out of wheat had to go through it for all that time. Just for bringing in an FDI and specific technology which could have been definitely negotiated with better terms and conditions if it was done with GOOD intentions by CAPABLE PEOPLE. Monopolies are anomaly's in my view. They can exploit the benefits from all corners with market power and consumers who have no other choice will have to suffer from every mistake they make including inefficiencies and low productivities that normal sets in monopolies after some time.

We should let the market forces operate freely while the government facilitates and regulates them through policies and regulators.

Matha..You are right on the money. US sub-prime mortgage crisis are good example why capitalism is approaching its last days. If US feds did not bail out Bear Sterns, you would have seen the collapse of City group, Merrill Lynch, Lehman Brothers and many more securities firms, which ultimately would have paved the path to total collapse of capitalism which is all about consumer confidence. US feds should have allowed the market to correct itself instead of intervention.

I have visited many backward states like Louisiana and Michigan in US. You will see how poor these people are in these states. 45 million Americans are without the health care insurance, and it tells it all. Meantime, some crooks made billions betting against sub-prime mortgage in wallstreet.

Since fall of USSR, many thought capitalism is the perfect economical model. In fact, fall of Soviet Union has various factors for its fall. Look at Sweden, it has great economical model in socialism while China has goodie by balancing between socialism and capitalism. For country like SL, I would say Swedish model is right one.

One thing for sure, 700 year old capitalism is approaching its last days. Death of Capitalism will ultimately pave the path to death of corporate world which is the reason for many sufferings around the world.

Well said mate; we hardly see eye to eye, but with regard to your economic insight, I am on the same wavelength.

We must come up with a sensible ***lism that suits our model of life. For decades, most of our folks were experimenting with one model, word for word, for that matter - socialism - and paid a heavy price. We became a lazy nation, fighting only for rights at the expense of duties.

Embracing the American model as it is, going to be another disaster.

Exploiting the poor, vulnerable and modest is not clever economics. A ruthless robber can do the same as long as he can live with his consciences and stigma that brings upon him the shame. Some of corporate bosses are robbers in dark suits.

The banking sector in the UK is going through the roughest patch since the great depression in the twenties: a major bank has collapsed and a second one is terminally ill. Newspapers say it is the tip of the iceberg and it is not just gloomy, it is scary. Adding insult to the injury, the housing market has taken a nose-dive.

The global outlook is very bleak; they needed a correction which was long over-due and got one.

The oil price is going through the roof and the Opec gets the blame - for not producing enough.

In actual fact, the real culprits are the stock market mafia who manipulate the price with their fingers on too many hypothetical panic buttons.

The vultures of capitalism are as monstrous as those of socialism. The former have a classic shield for protection - democracy. The latter chose brute force.

At least, they give us that opportunity to make a distinction.

Whether it is capitalism or socialism, they are subjected to the age-old maxim with surgical precision - what goes up, comes down.

Excesses - politics, economics or even sex - always have the corresponding corrections attached to their tails. It is high time clever policy makeres and economists did not turn a blind eye to that fact.

Thanks for your great inputs and I didn’t know JR had anything to do with Prima.Prima too have other ventures like poultry to subsidize their industry. We have to find an alternative fuel soon for our transport, public or private. Increase in the generation of electric power is a good start, where hybrid cars may be the next step and we should be prepared for it. We have ample sun light to produce solar power, a method of heating a solar tower by an array of mirrors as done by Spain, wind power etc. There are many ways to improve our lifestyles, standard of living, the economy but the cultural and religious constrains are impeding this and discourage much needed capital to the country.

  124. I, after a long deliberation, wish to express my deep rooted doubt about Mr Bhairav. I, now certainly feel, that Bhairav is not really a Thamizhan - going by his "para-Rama" comment and now, this anti-Muslim slur. His comments are increasingly very un Thamizh-like and spiteful.
I'm now convinced that he is a "lion in Tiger's skin"!!
If he is indeed a Thamizhan truly believes in Thamizh speaking people's external self-determination, then he must sing in tune with the LTTE who offered the olive branch to the Muslims and made peace with them.

    Peccko,

Are you insecured moron? Yes, I played mind games with Riyaz and Moshy, that does not mean I hate Muslims.

How do I know that You are real Tamilan? Are you one who involved in the gang raped of NGO tamil woman in East with TMVP cadres few years back? Who are Karuna and Pillaiyan? Very interestingly, Karuna was supposed to be 2nd in charge of LTTE that time, turn out to be a rough killer and rapist. Who is Pillaiyan? Are you belong to that Tamil? Mind you, all these folks who say that they are Tamils came from so called LTTE. I do not worship VP as you guys do but I will support LTTE fully until I see the clear picture where Mr.VP takes us. Next two years will say where his legacy will stand.

Mind you, whoever has hands to Tamil blood will be punished accordingly, it includes VP too. Stop undermining other Tamils bcoz you came from some fishing village or lower end of the stick.

even if it is true,.ltte gains very little by capturing jaffna,(if they in fact do, it will be at a huge loss to them.).

it could be a diversion, possibly to blindside, mulathivu/mannar sectors.

  129. Bhairav,
Now calm down, brother. If we are on the same side in terms of the core issue of Thamizh Eezham, then lets not have any infighting.

Anyways I am not undermining other Thamizh speaking people, that too, becasue of my birth, which you seem to be so sure that it occured in a fishing village. God knows why that thought sparked in you.

I was far from undermining other Thamizhar. I was merely trying to isolate you from the other Thamizhar, a majority of whom detest racial hatred, only becasue of your rather unwitting 'mind game' that could have been mistaken for an average Thamizhan's mind-set.

I felt that it was my duty to be diligent and bring it to the open that Thamizhar do not harbour any racial hatred.

In any event, I am now really glad that you did eventually say it in the open that your words were only the pawns of a 'mind game' and you do not hate the Muslims.

I am now very much satisfied with your statement and I wish to apologise to you if I had offended you with my post.

Cancerous cells attack normal peaceful cells and try to kill the body. Until these cancerous cells are totally annihilated (with extreme prejudice) with chemo & radio therapy there would be no peace for the body. Doctors don’t talk peace with cancer cells. They administer the appropriate doses of therapy and kill the cancer cells.

  143. Asithri,
Your blatant and unrelenting attempts to portray yourself as Macho man who has an insatiable sexual appetite is, infact, giving away the not-so well hidden 'Sthree' tendancy in you.

Whilst there is nothing wrong at all about having a-sthree tendency, I was unable to fathom as to why you try so hard to cover it up!

I have now come up with a solid theory. You have been seriously abused, sexually, by someone very close to you. You must have also been teased, tormented and tortured during your childhood by someone or many.

It is no accident that your most favourite adjectives seem to be 'MotherF*****', 'Incest bred', 'Faggot', 'Excreta' etc. Carnal pleasure is deeply rooted at the core of your being and your intellect shows no sign of having the potentiality to liberate itself from the sensual prison. This is probably due to the fact that you are constantly haunted by the memories of your past and are simply unable to stall the inflow of images from your past and you swiftly transfer them on to this blog as if to reduce its weight.

The biggest joke of it all is the apparent pride you seem draw from being able to swear better than the fellow bloggers. You ususally follow your filth rain with an appeal to an imaginery umpire - 'Howzat'- as if to convince yourself that you out-swore the unassuming blogger. Typical of a post-traumatic, delutional schizophrenic person.

Grow up, Asithri. Please indulge in decent, intelligent and polite converstions that could open a whole new world to you, the real world.

I wrote the above at the risk of earning the ire of a-sthree and being tagged by him as an adjectived preacher. I am now well prepared to read a-sthree's thunderous posts filled with catchy adjectives and under-cover descriptions of episodes from his past, gruesome sexual experiences before he rushes to catch an imaginery flight!

I have said the above as a favour to an othewise, charming young man who is well versed in the English language (Albeit, not the Queen's version) and has shown glimpse of his kind heart from time to time.

Bring it on dear brother, a-sthree??!!??

    Mon, 2008-06-16 04:16

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), ran into another hurdle in propaganda drive. The LTTE official radio Voice of Tigers (VoT), which started transmissions on 1st June 2008 from Serbia has ceased its transmissions on June 09, 2008. According to reliable sources, the government of Serbia has terminated the broadcast license granted to VoT to retransmit to Europe, North Africa and Middle East via Serbian satellite, when the authorities came to know that VoT was the official broadcast organ of a banned terrorist outfit.

[Tigers ‘fishing’ for another peace talks]

[…It was with these developments the LTTE is now appealing to the international community especially to the Norwegian facilitators to create an environment conducive to resume peace talks.

The Government has out rightly rejected this offer by the LTTE thus refusing the Norwegian Special Envoy Jon Hansen Bauer to meet Tiger leadership in Wanni.

It was following a similar type of meeting in the year 2000 the Norwegians commenced their facilitation role when the LTTE top leadership was facing severe threats at the hands of the troops engaged in Long Range Reconnaissance Missions.

The events unfolded in the country in the guise of this bogus peace process put the LTTE in a higher pedestal parallel to the position of the Security Forces.

Thus they were given ample opportunities to strengthen their military capabilities during the four year-long Ceasefire Agreement.

The Security Forces now engaged in the Wanni liberation are facing the direct consequences of the Ceasefire Agreement due to the intense trappings and mine fields laid in the thick jungle taking the cover of the Ceasefire Agreement.

That was a clear indication to prove that the Tiger outfit was never interested in resolving the North-East conflict through political negotiations.]

  158. 1. talking filth about Gods is a sure sign of BARBARIANISM which the LTTE is world famous.

    2. another sign of barbarianism is CANIBALISM, ltte is the ONLY remaining canibals in the world. the other groups that RARELY practice canibalism can be excused as their staple food has changed. but eating its own kind is the daily feast of the LTTE.

but this is fantastic for the LTTE. it doesn't know that it is cutting its own survival. how it works,

    1. from the early 1980s LTTE used youth and children.

    2. they were not allowed to get married.

    3. as a result the number of young people and children today has fallen drastically in the north, especially in vanni which was under LTTE control for too long

    4. on top of that it still uses youth and children. this will collapse the vanni population and make it impossible for the LTTE to find fighters.

    5. people living outside LTTE control areas don't join it in material numbers

    6. jaffna and batticaloa have been the largest breeding grounds of the LTTE. they have lost both.

    7. as a result of all above, the LTTE is in dire need of fighters.

    8. therefore killing more and more of its cadres is the sure way to defeat it. LTTE's own canibalism will look after the rest!!!

you should be thankful to your IPKF fathers.

    1. if IPKF didn't do on a rapiing spree, most of you guys would not be there to swell the ranks of the LTTE!!!

    2. what IPKF did was MONUMENTAL. in fact LTTE went after these women to recruit them as suicide bombers. but most refused as they had children to look after!! SLA has been too good for your mothers, sisters, daughters!! hopefully the EPDP, TMVP, etc. etc. will relieve them SOON.

    3. now some of these orphans are tigers.

    4. it is a fact that LTTE also maintains many such "orphanages". one is called the GHANDHI orphanage in sakkilinochchi.

  163. so the barbarians have struck as expected. again a civilian target. police is also considered a civilian target.

this is in response to the alleged SLAF attacks on "civilians".

why does the LTTE "respond" this way?

bcos it knows by killing civilians it can stop the government carryout SLAF attacks altogether!

on june 6th and before LTTE (under whatever synonims of excreta) carried out many attacks on civilians claiming that they were in "retaliation" to "DPU attacks". unfortunately the govt. fell for it. now tigers know HOW TO STOP THE "DPU" and the SLAF.

it should be remembered that the biggest weapon of any terrorist group is terror. LTTE is using this weapon VERY EFFECTIVELY to GET EVERYTHING IT WANTS. this didn't happen in 2006 and early 2007 when the govt. retaliated (or re-retaliated). at that time the govt.'s OFFICIAL POLICY WAS RETALIATION.

mark my word, LTTE will EXPLOIT this "civilian casualties" concession to intimidate the govt. and get EVERYTHING THEY NEED unless we RETALIATE HARDER. that is the only language they understand.

tigers know very well that they cannot win a tit-for-tat "contest". they don't have the numbers, endurance, stockpiles, etc.
