Troops capture LTTE runway in Iranamadu

The LTTE’s largest airstrip located near the Iranamadu tank, was captured today (15th) morning by Sri Lanka Army’s Task Force 3. The airstrip which was 1km long and 50m wide is now under complete SLA control. The premises was protected by fortified bunkers, landmines and booby traps. Buildings around the airstrip have been severely damaged by fleeing LTTE cadres. No traces of LTTE’s light aircraft were found. The Iranamadu airstrip has been subject to frequent aerial raids by the Sri Lanka Air Force. As per UAV footage , SLAF’s was successful in damaging the runway several times in the past. With the airstrip’s capture today, troops observed that the LTTE had managed to repair most of the damage caused by SLAF bombings.

Meanwhile with the capture of Chundikulam, the entire Jaffna peninsula is now under SLA control. LTTE’s last major base in Jaffa district was overrun yesterday by the 55 division. 55 division units have captured several heavy vehicles and over 100 small sea tiger craft during this advance.

  23. Correct political and military leadership led to victory - Defence Secretary

Courageous political leadership given by President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the correct military leadership given to the Security Forces were the principal reasons behind the historic victories achieved in the struggle to defeat terrorism , said Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa participating in a live telecast yesterday evening.

There was tremendous external and internal pressure brought on President Rajapaksa, especially at the initial period of the war against the Tigers, the Defence Secretary explained. Some foreign powers not only told him that the LTTE was invincible but also wanted him to stop the war, he said.

“There were also difficulties in procuring necessary arms and equipment for the prosecution of the war. It was through the untiring efforts of the President that Sri Lanka could obtain the required military hardware from China, Pakistan and other friendly countries,” he added.

The Defence Secretary also revealed that it was the changed strategy and tactics in the battle front that facilitated the military victories.

The use of small groups, formation of wide fronts as well as simultaneous offensive operations from several locations, the use of special task forces and commando groups were some of these new strategic and tactical measures, he explained.

The Sri Lanka Navy also developed new strategies, some of which were engaging the enemy at deep sea far off from our shores, the use of small crafts in combating LTTE boats, he said.

Similarly, the Sri Lankan Air Force which could aim more precisely at targets identified by ground and air surveillance helped the advance of the army, he opined.

The myth of LTTE invincibility has been shattered and the victories were achieved with stunning rapidity, the Defence Secretary revealed.

  24. The End is Hard-Coded in the Beginning

Velupillai Prabhakaran, who launched a liberation struggle for a particular race by killing one of the same species at an auspicious time of his choosing next to a Hindu temple, clutching at the last straw of his luck, accroding to what we all can sense through the solar plexus.

Having ruled the Vanni with a platinum fist - saying iron is an insult to the big liberator - for almost three decades, his achivement in the region under his rule is laid bare now; it is wanton destruction on biblical proportions despite the flow of resources along so many channels.

The roads are non-existent; buildings are being neglected and dilapitated; schools display a comical map on the walls; curriculum has been massaged to appease the sentiments of a semi-literate day-dreamer.

In short, Velupillai has retracted the region he ruled backwards by a few decades.

Judging by what we witness in the liberated areas, it is clear that, if he was given 5 more years to rule, he would have equated liberation with complete annhialation of the race, he says, he loves, through his despciable real-time experimentation.

The kind of things he utters in the face of irreversible setbacks, sheds light on his stupid line of thinking.

He is a day dreamer for sure, to start with; the establishment of an air force and a navy is a part of that dream. The pathetic state of the two institutes at present is another story.

His ability to hint his followers about the existence of a latent source to produce surprises in terms of countr attacks and territory gains, coupled with displaying that skill in the past, may have produced the myth of Sun Goad among the gullible. He has given up on this yet, as that is his major strength.

His boasting about taking territory back in three months and Killinochchi pipe dream are two examples of that trait.

Velupillai is Velupillai. He hasn't changed; nor has he learnt. He is someone who still thinks people have very short memories.

His remarkable ability to sweep Rajiv's murder under the carpet by saying it took place a decade or so ago is a case in point.

However, he has a long memory when it comes to highlight the conduct of some stupid Sinhalese folks against Tamils, about fifty years back.

Velupillai is not only ruthless but also contradicting himself, given him the least opportunity to open his mouth in public. His instincts were right that he hardly speaks.

His behaviour shows that he is an immature brat within that portly physique. His reported weeping at the news of death of a senior cadre, bending rules of the organisation when it suited him and the belief that someone out there to bail him out at the hour of need stem either from a juvenile soul or surgically corrected testicle - where he produced the offspring for the continuation of destrction.

All the indications are that he is about to complete his full circle. He and his henchmen - both in fatigues and dark suits - must understand that simple principles that our forefathers used to hold close to their chests are still valid.

Truth is triumphant over spin in the long run. Decades of propaganda has finally started haunting the collaborators.

There are clear signs that fund-raisers and sympatheisers on payrolls beginning to feel the pinch.

The techntonic plates of fairness and patience are showing the signs of movement; all those who have blood on hands must brace themselves to face the haunting tsunami.

If the loss of a hypotheical homeland is unbearable think of something bearable.

The nations which offered you sanctuary show by example, that playing race card is the most dangerous human pastime since the invention of formalin.

You lot not only indulged in it, but also took deep dives in it.

You are absolutely right in what you have pointed out above.
These Diaspora roughs have taken the international community for a ride exploiting their minority status and for the British PM to ask for a ceasefire indicates the hold they have on these politicians by mere numbers of their Diaspora who had come to their countries as bogus refugees.
They have cheated the Tamil people by absolutely doing nothing in their areas of control but vigorously raising funds for their own selfish needs in these affluent countries.
They will somehow try to get their leader or leaders to a safe heaven in one of these new found countries failing which they might create a new figurehead to rally around the Diaspora.
Myth of a separate state for anyone must be erased from our minds and at the same time the presidential powers must be used to sack the communalist TNA MPs as they represent a barren area of Vanni where it’s citizens have fled abroad.
Gosl must resettle people who have been chased out by the terrorists and have a new census and elections.

May be Tamils from Diaspora have turned to the site for reliable information, having fed up with blatant exaggeration of pro-LTTE sites.

He invites the opinion of readers - unprecedented by his own standard!

  51. GOTABHAYA RAJAPAKSA SAYS INDIAN DEFENCE SECRETARY NARAYAN CALLED SARATH FONSEKA THE BEST ARMY COMMANDER IN THE WORLD
    Jan 15, 2009
Source: Onlanka News - By Walter Jayawardhana

Secretary of Defense Gotabhaya Rajapaksa told state owned Independent Television Network that the professionalism of the Sri Lankan security forces has won widespread praise across the world and the Indian Defense Secretary M.K. Narayan called the army commander Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka the best army commander in the world for his role against capturing back LTTE occupied areas in the North and the Eastern Provinces of Sri Lanka.

“After crushing the Malaysian terrorism in the 1950’s this the first time any terrorism has been defeated and the Indonesian leaders whom I met during my recent visit told me that Sri Lanka has given an important message to the world regarding how to deal with terrorism,” Rajapaksa told a prime time TV interview that had been co-broadcast by several other TV channels including certain privately owned ones like the Derana, nation wide.

He said when he visited Israel recently he was accompanied by the Director General of the Sri Lanka Navy and the Commander of the Navy of Israel requested thirty minutes with our Naval official to ask him how Sri Lanka has minimized the attacks by LTTE’s suicide boats.

The ability of the accuracy of the bombing targets of the Sri Lankan Airforce avoiding minimum collateral damage to the civilians has been highly praised, he said. While in Sri Lanka the “Zero civil casualties” policy has been extremely successful , during the the recent Israel –Palestenian clash in Gaza there had been 700 civilans killed. “During recent clashes in Sri Lanka civilian deaths could be counted on one’s fingers,” he said. He said certain pro-LTTE media outlets have been showing pictures of the past as civilian casualties, fraudulently.

He said always civilian casualties are caused by indirect fire in wars but our air men have become so brilliant in hitting the targets accurately. He referred to the recent video clips shown on the TV indicating how Sri Lankan pilots hit two artillery guns accurately while they were being transported to be hidden in a Mulaithivu jungle. In the same way pilots destroyed Sea Tiger boats from the air recently , Rajapaksa said.

The surrender has taken place in an undisclosed location when the LTTE veteran handed himself over to a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Special Forces unit. Pottu Amman has been taken into Special Forces custody and is held in an undisclosed location, where he is being interrogated by SLA.

What puzzling everyone is that President is not keen on getting into the bottom of this. Just giving CID total responsibility (or appointing two independent Special Investigation Teams) would bring the culprits to table. Unfortunately it is not happening.

Talking about LTTE activity. MI knows most of what civilians know. My sources are civilians who live in Wanni, who happened to be close friends and relatives of my friends/house mates.

It was funny as well as tragic, we tried one of our contact's mobile phone about 150 times, and got hold of him. He was hiding 'under a tractor' that has been parked with thousand of other people on their way to Vishwamadu. He said if he was caught talking in the cellphone, he would be killed. He said many who did not listen to LTTE were either taken away or severely beaten.

Only thing he wants to know from us was "what is the Sinhala Army telling" about the civilians. He wants to know whether there is any 'plan' by Army to let them come to the Government Controlled side.

My friend's relative is a very educated person who lives outside the country for many years and went back to look after his ailing mother. My friend was literally crying. Before this person went back to Sri Lanka, lived with us for about four months.

Mate, their main concern is not about giving info about LTTE, but how to get out. They even did not know that Killinochchi and Dharmapuram has fallen to Army.

He says Army should drop leaflets everyday informing the situation, and it can build lot of confidence on trapped civilians.

  67. R*fard&C*ble,

Good to hear from you as always mate..

regarding escape routes do you have idea how people escape these day and the routes they take ? According to SLA several thousand people have arrived in the SLA areas during past week. Isnt it possible for your friend to locate one civilian group that escapes ?

Its very diseartening to hear those stories of those trapped people. Only solution for this is complete elimination of LTTE from the face of the earth.

  68. Guys Need feedback;

Yesterday I went to a party and heard that Army lost nearly 300 troops last month.

    They said LTTE put posonouse gas & our guys went to the water stream & the water stream was electricuted by LTTE using a Transformer & 300 was killed;

adding to the discussion one said that they berried all the bodies near the stream without sending to their relatives

I' was shocked to hear this but even I didn't hear it as a rumour from any of the defence related blogs

I don't know whether this is Pongala Samaraweera type ass hole's false rumour but 4 parties talking about thesame thing was quite unusual

Given that there’s still a possibility of some of the LTTE leaders escaping to the South (or leaving the country through the south), don’t you think we should circulate their description to the public: Photo, height, Fluency in Sinhalese/English, disability etc.

After all, how many of us would recognise Ramesh, Jeyam or Balakumar?

(I’m not based in SL, so please correct me if this has already been done)

just load some leaflets in MI24/35 during their sorties and ask the gunners/someone to drop them while en-route and back.

Ranil condemns alleged attempts to arrest MTV news director
    2009-01-16 16:49:17

Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe today condemned an alleged attempt to arrest MTV/MBC News Director Chevan Dannielle over an interview given to CNN after the recent attack on the MTV/MBC station.

At a press conference held in Colombo today Mr. Wickaramasinghe charged that the government had taken another step at suppressing media freedom by allegedly trying to arrest Dannielle.

“We all know Chevan Danielle. He’s no terrorist,” he said.

He added that members of the media had requested him to speak about the matter.

  85. Fast-unto-Death and the Death-of-Fast

At last the Tamil Nadu joker has given up on his fast. Are we surprised at the move? Not, at all.
Things turned out exactly as expected.

These rascals are playing to the emotive gallery of Tamil Nadu. They know they can shore up emotions on a gigantic scale: young women weep; men get eyes misty; older women wag loosened boobs to beat up opened chests, to name but a few.

At first glance, this rascal looks like a highway robber with a digusting disproportionate moustache to conceal everything he lacks in - pleasant persona; education; commonsense; social-standing.

By keeping some henchmen as supporters, he thinks the amplified macho image by the silly moustache will make him a global player let alone a regional icon.

He quoted great Gandhi before starting it. The great man never indulged in fasting to save self-confessed murderers.

No one took the rascal seriously, except a few who may have been on the payroll of the Tigers.

His fast lasted just five days; I have been forced to go like that more than a week when I got diarrea when holidaying in India.

If the silly fasting undertook by this joker makes him pious, the bacteria that made me ill should become a living saint.

I think this is the last straw for Prabha, unless another joker come forward and perform genital mutilation in public to hald the military offensive.

They were just pulling out a few dead bodies? The women had their breasts and genitals exposed, while the "camera man" zoomed in on them.

    @ Tata

Are you trying to tell me that an army as advanced as the SLA, has to cease all operations in order to find out who took this video? They could easily find the culprits if they wanted to... but they won't.

The SLA has done this before! Stripping bodies of LTTE cadres dead and putting them in the back of a truck. Then stopping at a busy junction in the town centre to show the townspeople?

And even so, Tamilnet and other pro LTTE sources did NOT report this event, as they actually felt it would be disrespectful and cause negative publicity for LTTE cadres. If in fact it is "propaganda" as claimed by some of you, then why was it not more prominent in pro LTTE media?

    ReplyDelete
  88. Revolutionery

The video is a very minor incident, in a war worse things happening but still we have not seen much.
I observe two things in the video

1.Talking filth "Mother fucker". This is a quite normal even in day to day life how many times we ordinary citizens call others a mother fucker. so why cant a solder use the pharase

    2. Exposing genital. well this is bad, but one thing is they are not exposing them to public, they are just seeing by themselves, at most there should be four or five people. And once bodies are loaded into truck the show is over.

One good thing i observed was solders never made sexual commented on female bodeis. That shows they are professional, instead he was calling others to help him to load bodies. That shows they are more worried about loading bodies rather than seeing and commenting on them.

Someone has taken this video with a hidden agenda, he exposed his camera too much to unwanted areas and sold his video to LTTE or UNP or a LTTE sponsered NGO. So this is a well planned episode and solders are not aware of the true intention of the cameraman. I doubt, may be stripping part also must have done by the cameraman himself and other solders just did nt object.

The army should look into who used the camera

    ReplyDelete
  89. Revolutionary

Dead or alive LTTE cadres do not deserve any respect.

Whatever our solders do with LTTEers whether alive or dead are automatically justified as FAIR

Any respect given by SL Army to LTTE dead bodies is complementory.

    This is the plan samp...

the ltte has enough stocks as per intel sources for a good 3 months minimum...

so they plan to hold on till then at any cost and then in the meantime to instigate thamilnadu.the ideal situation for the ltte would be to cite civilian casualties and then to stirr up the emotions of tamilnadu to bring the country to a standstill and then force Delhi to destabilize the situation with 89 style intervention in sri lanka...

we have to take extreme caution...we cant use the jets at will cos of 150000 civilians at hand.so the use of the SLAF will be limited in terms of kfirs and migs and mostly the mi24 gunships at play...arti and mbrl fire is limited for the same reasons and its mostly the foot soldiers who fight now...

the ltte's best fighters are fighting and no way to escape...so its do or die for them...we are fighting in the think jungles and movements of heavy vehicles are also not possible as it was before...

so its a classic infantry battle and that too more often than not, face to face with the commandos and special forces leading the way...

it means a loss of lots of lives...they will surely loose and crumble at a point no doubt, but it will come at a cost for us too.

instead we can use defections...and waken them bring down the morale and get them to surrender...we can break thr spirit to fight.as even now the cadres are very low in morale and know that they have already lost the battle.

this is the best strategy...and many top guns though you have no clue have already surrendered including leaders whom you thought will surrender not even in diaspora's dreams...this is the situation at present.

everyday dynamics change and its only a matter of time before the rest does...

we will save time and our resources and most importantly the lives of soldiers...

I hope the guys who are been taken in by the forces will reveal that there’s a fake VP as the real one was swept away in the tsunami or the real one has escaped to another country like Burma as having 7 airstrips were there not for any other reason but to ferry arms using mercenary pilots operating from a nearby country like Burma. So this method was used to bring in and out close family members of the top leaders from abroad, like Charles Anthony. They wouldn’t simply build 7 air strips for those 3 tin cans. It is a terrible failure of the military and the air force not to know about these airfields if that is so one must expect these battles as illusive as these airfields. Perhaps the tiger hardcore cadres are still there in numbers awaiting for the opportunity when all the fighting divisions are all concentrated in a small area where they will be very venerable to attack.
Should the Mulative is liberated then the best advise is the divisions to move out and spread themselves thin, secure these air fields with each divisional HQ close to them, just in case 3 to 4 thousand cadres descend on them from nowhere. One must remember the way a small number of them overwhelmed the EP in nineties. The guys here seems to be very confident of reversing the loses, that is kia of our forces.
Strategists must work out the reasons for having 7 air fields of fairly long in length in a such a small area. Tigers are not known to waste money unnecessarily These two elections that’s going to held will be the distraction that might help them to launch any large scale operation.
Recently someone has found a literature among them a historical record of the RCAF debacle in 1943 when Japanese air Commodore Fuchida used the Easter Sunday in 1943 where the Radar scanning the Indian ocean was taken out for repair to get into Ceylon by the South coast and flew overland to bomb the naval assets in Trinco the HMS Hermes and Dorset shire in the SW of Ceylon, bomb the Colombo harbour where the RCAF30 in Ratmalana was taken by surprise in spite of early warning given by a Catalina flying from Rangoon. They had a such a field day over Ratmalana where a US B17 parked there was used for bombing practice runs for their pilots and I hear many pilots used this unfortunate plane for practice their bombing skills, where this fleet attacked a similar target in Pearl Harbour.

    Illegal Sri Lankan migrants deported

Jan 19, 2009 (LBO) - Britain has started deporting illegal Sri Lankan migrants with the first batch sent back by charter flight on January 15 at the island international airport, the British High Commission said.
It said in a statement that the UK and Sri Lankan governments have struck a deal to send back illegal migrants on a regular basis on charter flights. "The British Government and the Government of Sri Lanka have an ongoing agreement to facilitate the return of Sri Lankan nationals who have remained unlawfully in the UK," it said. The first charter flight of Sri Lankan returnees, who were deported last week marks the start of what is hoped will be an ongoing programme of repatriation, it said.

The High Commission said the Sri Lankan government "was instrumental" in ensuring the flight took place. The agreement also "supports the UK Border Agency policy to detect, detain and remove those who have unlawfully entered the UK or pose a threat." The British high commission statement did not say who the returnees were.

Hundreds of Sri Lankans, especially minority Tamils, are known to have entered Britain illegally and are living and working there. It said in a statement that the UK and Sri Lankan governments have struck a deal to send back illegal migrants on a regular programme of charter flights.

2 bodies of LTTE terrorists killed during the sea confrontation with Navy, yesterday, were recovered while floating in the seas off Mullaittivu, Tuesday (Jan 20).

According to Naval media sources, an immediate search operation was launched following the fierce gun battle that erupted at around 11.30p.m., on Monday. 4 LTTE attack craft were destroyed by the naval craft on patrol, forcing terrorists to retreat with heavy damages, the sources said. A fast attack craft sustained damages when an LTTE suicide boat exploded during the intense naval gunfire assault, the sources further said.

Sri Lanka Navy maintains four (04) defence barriers off the coast of Mullaithivu consisting of more than twenty-five (25) Fast Attack Craft (FACs), Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs), Gun Boats, the Rapid Action Boat Squadron (RABS) and the Special Boat Squadron (SBS) to cut off the escape of LTTE cadres by sea and to prevent the unloading of warlike materials on the North-eastern coast, Navy Spokesperson Captain D.K.P Dassanayake said.

Most media (foreign, international, local) will give publicity to this event, thus the acts of the LTTE (suicide bombers, child solders, killing of political rivals, holding of people unwillingly, public executions), and the relation with terrorist fund organizations (under the guise of NGO's) should be pointed out.

EX: How tsunami funds were misused, how other development funds were used to develop terror bunkers, airstrips, armored vehicles etc. (The need for the world as a whole to have a check on the NGO's in their respective countries as a part of counter terror acts)
