Troops capture Mullaithivu

The Sri Lanka army (SLA) now has complete control of the Mullathivu township which had been under LTTE control for the last 12 years. SLA’s massive base complex in Mullathivu fell in July, 1996 when LTTE launched their first Unceasing Waves operation. The first SLA units to enter Mullathivu town last morning were from the 59 division. A number of LTTE cadres were killed in operations in and around Mullathivu town and bodies of 19 fallen tigers have been recovered by the army. 59 division started its operations back in 2007 from Weli Oya sector and have been continuously moving north into LTTE held territory in Mullathivu district.

Meanwhile a a lot of false information regarding the Kalamadukulam tank bund explosion are being spread by pro LTTE media. According to some of these sites, over 3000 SLA units were killed and another 5000 were taken prisoner by the LTTE. DefenceNet can only laugh at these claims. When the LTTE blew up the tank bund using explosives, water began to flood sections of the A-35 road, Ramanadanpuram, Dharmapuran and Vishwamadu (which is currently under LTTE control). 6 SLA squads from 57 and 58 division were caught in the flood water and had to battle their way out as LTTE cadres on board 5 boats kept attacking them. 3 of these boats were destroyed while two others escaped. Although the situation was not as severe as the SLA initially expected it to be, several units from the 53 division were deployed in the affected area as a precautionary measure. 53 division is kept as a reserve force to be used in the event of an LTTE counterattack. Even though the floods failed to inflict any considerable damage to SLA, it did however cut off several land routes which the civilians could have used to get into the ‘safe zone’ (also known as ‘LTTE artillery launchpad’).

  4. Defencenet,
Why do not you talk about the real SLA lost numbers due to Kalamadukulam tank bund explosion.

According to your site no SLA got killed? (I'm not hear to justify the LTTE Pro media based numbers!!)
What about the real wash away number of 48 SLA?

  5. I have a small request to make;

I WOULD LIKE TO SEE SOME OF OUR DISABLED WAR HEROES TAKING PART IN THE INDEPENDENCE DAY PARADE THIS YEAR!

This year would be the most fitting for it. I remember last year we saw the "Civil Defence Force" being included. So why not include our disabled heroes this year? They deserve to be part of it!

DN or someone with direct contacts with the Military, please pass this message to the relevant people, if possible.

    Thanks in advance!

  6. Didn’t we predict LTTE to shell their own people and create a huge hue and cry to get out of their mess? It seems like it is happening.

They want to shell their captive Tamils, and publish photos claiming they are the work of Sri Lankan Security Forces, and obtain international sympathy.

This is their final attempt before going down in drain. They want to create an international intervention through this low-life method.

Ironically, no Tamil Diaspora is denouncing this non-human LTTE tactic. They think that it is OK for LTTE to play this trick on the international eyes.

LTTE is lining up AFP, BBC, NY Times, Boston Globe, Globe and Mail in Canada, to carry out the necessary PR for their dirty tactic. In addition, LTTE agents close to Colombo Human Rights and NGO circles are working day and night to bring our pressuring statements for Sri Lanka Government to stop annihilating LTTE.

LTTE has infiltrated NY based HRW and AI. Therefore, LTTE has a very upper hand in directing HRW, and AI pressure towards the Government of Sri Lanka.

The LTTE has taken about 150,000 civilians as prisoner and are using as a Human Shield. It is time for foreign governments to tie the knot on LTTE operatives in their countries, so that LTTE would get the message and release civilians from their grip.

Government of Sri Lanka is doing less work on educating the international community about this LTTE cheap tactic. It is time for Palitha Kohona, Prof Rajiva Wijedasa, and Dayan Jayathilake to show their colours again in educating the international community.

  8. Civilian- Stop wasting your time in this blog requesting to stop the war.

The LTTE & ITS SUPPORTERS ARE DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE FOR KILLING THEIR OWN TAMIL PEOPLE IN TRAPPED AREAS.
The best thing you can do is to write to BARBARIC, UNCIVILISED LTTE & ITS SUPPORTERS through TAMILNET to let the trapped civilians go without using them as human shields.
The was stops only when the LTTE is DONE in few days.
The army will be continued to clence N&E for another 20 yrs until the last cell of the LTTE is out of this plannet

  12. What about GOSL declare one day of Ceasefire to evacuate Women and Children. If LTTE complies then extend that to another day(altogeter 2 days).

    Any thoughts?

I resist to disagree with you!

  15. Qrious, Sam Perera.

I see how disadvantage that to the SLA..However, if LTTE agrees to this, the SLA can launch an all out attack on tigers after the evacuation of all non-combatants.

It is a paradox..Otherwise, LTTE will come up with genocide and massacre bullshit.

Powerful Israel has to withdrew because of civilian deaths..

Now unfortunately it is our turn.

  16. Backaches during Troubled Times

The Old Fox of Tamil Nadu has been complaining about a sudden backache and even extended the world's most flexible deadline of bringing down an elected government until 15 Feb this year, in the light of the rapidly-changing Wanni military landscape.

Even by the standard of Tamil Nadu politics, the octagenarian is up to something; he may book a place in a hospital until his back ache will be gone that in turn guarantees him peace of mind.

We don't know at this stage, whether the much-published backache is an heartache in disguise.

I know the die-hards in our camp may, quite understandably, question his possession of that particular organ in the first place; it is out of the question any way.

Certainly, Karunanidhi seems to be a worried man who is hell bent on saving both his face and the skin.

His daughter, Kanimozi, which almost rhymes with Kamakazi, is one source of his troubles. She has been in tears recently over the repeated defeats of her comrades across the Palk Straits.

LTTE is a very generous organization when it comes to rewarding folks who wish them success. They know it is not their hard-earned money that they always dish out at will. So, the organization may have extended a fiscal channel to this famous family through its numerous tentacles.

If the big fish are caught, Karunanidhi may fear, the cat may be out of the bag. It may contain the explosive stuff to ruin the political fortunes of the family for ever.

So, the old man has quite a few things to worry about.

Adding more to it, the sympathisers are up in arms in his state asking him to play the intevention card, something he had been boasting about as if he had monopoly of it.

The demise of the outfit and the disappearance of fortunes of its sympathsisers cleary show, even in the brutal game of politics, there are accepted norms. Karunanidhi and the folks on the same wavelength have been using the plight of a community to thrive on shamelessly.

The time has come - much faster than expected - to pay a price for the misdeeds.

History has not been kind to any misfit who had been playing the race card to shore up political ambtions.

Karunanidhi and the likes in the South Asai are on the verge of adding a long list of statistics to the league of the misfortune.

This backache syndrome sprang from Dick Chaney who didn’t want to face the inauguration and the similar failed politicians will copycat one another inn the face of failure.

  18. LTTE has learned that they lost Vakarai in record time because the government acted fast to withdraw civilians first.

This time these cowards hiding behind civilians keeping them as hostage in the nearing defeat.

LTTE itself may be shelling the civilians to create the much needed catastrope.

When UN and ICRC went to collect the injured, LTTE has not allowed them to take or show them.

    1. Either there are no casualties other than the LTTE combat casualties or

    2. LTTE wants to keep them to worsen the situation there.

It looks like when UN and ICRC were there LTTE shelled nearby too, in order to give the impression that the Army is shelling the safe zone.

  19. pro-LTTE morons feed misinfo to the ever willing AP and BBC claiming 40,000 SLA deaths and thousands taken prisoners by the Tigers.

Next they'll claim that SL is about to surrender to the LTTE.

Never a dull moment with the monkey circus.

The 212 called to let you know that they somehow feel fcked, because they never gotr paid, other than with SLG food and now with SLG ammo. Some of 'em are still hurting from the humiliation that the chena boys shoot faster and straighter and have bigger guns. Their girls friends are talking all the time about the chena boys' bigger dicks and that is adding insult to the injury.

So they want you to call when possible. Would like you to move in with them soon too, so that you can rise with them....like, later, you know.

Your madayan have got hold of an old photo that has been taken when they were in a train station in Ukrain.

Transporting Battle Tanks on a train is a normal occurance in the Russian federation.

The two monkeys have never seen such movement and have gone closer to take a look. I can see their mouths are watering too.

Tamilwin is giving Punnakku to naive die-ass-pora to believe that these tanks are destined for LTTE.
