Cruelty of disinformation – Tamilnet exposed

Given below are screenshots from three recent articles published on pro LTTE Tamilnet website. According to Tamilnet, these letters were issued by Regional Directors of Health Services (RDHS) for Ki'linochchi and Mullaiththeevu districts. However, simple translation errors present on the letterheads say otherwise.

  1. DN, thanks for highlighting the issue. LTTE is based on lies and deception and it is one of the reasons for its downfall. Following article in our blogspot would complement what you say.

You have to check all the Letters that Tamilnut published claiming to be from the same source.

This is the 3rd revision of the letterhead (after we have pointed the wrongs in the past two).

Still they can not do the forgery right.

Check this out - this is the enhanced version

  12. DefenceNet, It’s good to see you back.

From today’s Pro LTTE - BBC Sinhala:
Health authorities in northern Sri Lanka say that over 500 patients died in hospitals in Vanni since January this year due to lack of essential medicine.
In a letter to the Secretary of Health Ministry, Regional Directors of Health Services of Mullaitivu and Kilinochchi say that the region was not provided with much needed medicine for the last four months.
"Thousands of civilian deaths could have gone unrecorded as they were not brought to hospitals," the letter signed by Dr. T Varatharaja and Dr. T Satyamoorthy said.
'500 killed' due to medicine shortage

"Having said that... will you be setting up a redirect to keep me from offering opinions here or are you alright with well reasoned voices that disagree with you?"

Some posters in the past have had their comments deleted by the administrator (DN). But the fact is that this board has gone stale with only a couple of posts each day. You probably will be wasting your time posting here if your intent is to invite intelligent discourse.

Of course, you will find it difficult to obtain intelligent, and reasoned conversations, on most any board discussing the current conflict in Sri Lanka.

With a few exceptions, most of the posters on both DefenceWire and Puligal - the most active boards - are highly racist; have little respect for people who express opinions that do not agree with their own; and can see no logic other than those of their "side".

If your attempt to rationalize with either group, you will only encounter ridicule from that side and silence from the other.

The few examples of those who present logical, reasoned, non-hate filled arguments are themselves criticized by both groups.

The levels of animosity demonstrated has shown to me that there is little real hope for peace in the short term for Sri Lanka. Especially if the current leadership of either side are in the least like the bloggers who post on those boards regularly.

I personally believe that the Sri Lankian government will militarily defeat the ltte. But the likely result of their defeat will have the ltte, or whatever organization succeeds it, organize into small units and conduct gorilla warfare against the government in Columbo. I also believe that military expenditures necessary to keep the Tamil's pacified will produce a heavy drag on the local economy.

Good Luck at finding whatever it is you wish to find.

I'm from the US. I've heard about this conflict my entire life without ever figuring out who was who. After Kilinochi fell recently, it caught my attention enough to do some proper research.

I am a scientist (Ph.D) by training and find the human aspect of this facinating (because I don't understand humans very well). As I said - I don't know a single Sri Lankan so I think I am fairly unbiased.

The level of blind emotion, bias, media manipulation, I.C. stupidity is quite incredible to me. And obviously, I have come to the conclusion that the LTTE is by far the nuttier of the two sides. I want to meet the guy who runs tamilnet...

I am sure US politic looks as crazy from the outside.

Like I said - best of luck. For some reason I just think Sri Lanka deserves some good times. I really

  32. sneezemeister,

If I were you, I will not call LTTE and TN are nuttier. I would say that they are craftier. Regardless of my bias, LTTE is a well organized terror outfit which surpasses Al-Qaeda. Tamilnet is also a very coherent front for LTTE international propaganda for the ears of people like you or lesser of you for taking things in face value. Most of the news posts in Tamilnet are well crafted to carry the LTTE's current position to the world. They very cleverly and sometimes preemptively cover the problems for LTTE. A sharp thinker with a Ph.D. may catch all the bull but it may look like gospel to a naive. In Tamilnet, there is a nice option for you to go back to past events by Month, year or day. You may find it to be very interesting to see how they played the war drums in 2005 and early 2006. Please go through the titles where the crux of the message is, when you get a chance.

    Best regards,

    Sam

Sri Lanka is not at a Ethnic war.It is not a war against tamils. It is against terrorism. If it is an "ethnic" war how come majority of tamils are living amongst the sinhalese in the south???

Not to bother everyone with a personal issue but this fellow continues to attempt, by means of a simple Java redirect, to keep me from posting on his blog. I still do and I challenge him as to why he is censoring me but he repeatedly fails to dignify his position with an answer.

I am every bit as critical of the GoSL as I am of the failed LTTE leadership but he refuses to so much as let me opine unfettered.

It is people like him who end up doing more damage to the Tamil cause in Sri Lanka than they possibly do good.

  48. Kieth Vaz does it again.....

When a crook pretending to be a qualified lawyer migrated to Britain landed in hot water for his misdeeds, where can he find help, to come out of that. He needs to find a powerful figure who is also a crook and will do anything for money who has no ethics and no shame.

When lawyer 'pretend' Mr Mireskandari became a focus of an investigation he managed to find correct person to help him out it, in none other than our beloved MP Kieth Vaz.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1162213/Keith-Vaz-damning-letter-How-senior-Labour-MP-abused-position-help-crooked-lawyer-court.html

Vaz not only abused his possition as the chaieman of a Parlimentary select committee trying to bail out his 'client', he started playing race card when the judges were reluctent to let the matter dropped.

    ReplyDelete
  49. This Vaz is the Jeffery Archer of Labour.

A well known crook even among Labour MPs, but no one seems to have guts to voice their concerns. So is the power of 'Race Politics' of UK.

This guy said to be representing the Indian interests here (a kind of sole representative )and Blair turned blind eye on Vaz's sleazy affairs due to donations he managed to bring to the party. Now he has grown so powerful, even IF Mr Brown wants him out that will be a difficult task.

Politics in Britain have become very much like third world when it comes to race. (And LTTE exploited it to the maximum). Indians in the constituency will vote him regardless of his sleaz because of race. So Labour will keep him until his sell by date is close.

    1) I have never tried to hide the fact that I am merely an interested party with no ties to either side in this conflict.

    2) I have always stated that my remarks are my own opinion and only one possible outcome to this conflict. If I was actually that good, I would be employed by some government agency.

    3) I still believe that my guesses as to the outcome of this conflict have I reasonable chance of actually occurring.

To provide some evidence I present the writings of some of our fellow bloggers:

    "ReallyCold..... said

I strongly think going forward it is up to Sinhalese to take the leadership rebuilding Sri Lanka. We are not going to develop a joint mission at this stage. It is up to Sinhalese to define the mission for Sri Lanka incorporating certain reasonable aspects of Tamil demands.

Central mission is to make changes for the benefit of majority of Sri Lanka and not to keep whining small minorities happy. That doesn't mean we should leave out minorities and oppress them. Minorities should be forced to accept that they can only expect to get certain things fixed, not everything until the life of the majority is fixed."

This from one of the more moderate members and even he states that it is up to Sinhalese to do this or that. Reading between the lines of such a statement, a few scraps will be tossed to the minorities and they should be happy about it. I will admit that I have twisted this a little but sometimes you have to wear the other guys clothes to see the sh$t that is being shoveled.

Then we have have the utterances of another Sinhalese - one Asithri - he said

"Sivanesa, no, you will not get your fucking “thamileelam” nor “self rule” (another name for “thamileelam” just like “ISGA” was) …you can scream and holler and yes as Priya said, fuck your faggot undercover Tamil racist friend “wijayapala”…but you will NOT get it. You got that sakkiliya?"

I do not even need to comment on this drivel.

I will not bother with the stuff posted by the pro-ltte contingent even though much it is just as bad. But, I will quote myself. What I said was "The levels of animosity demonstrated has shown to me that there is little real hope for peace in the short term for Sri Lanka. Especially if the current leadership of either side are in the least like the bloggers who post on those boards regularly."

I stand by what I wrote. For the sake of those who actually do live on the island of Sri Lanka, I hope I am wrong.

  54. onceinawhile

I wish to make one additional point. I have kept up with the news coming out of Sri Lanka since late in 2003. My knowledge is limited to events since that time and what limited time I can dedicate to reading about past events. I have read quite a bit about your history but I have not lived it so I admit my limitations. But I have a very different perspective than do the "patriots" that post on DN and DW, or the "patriots" who post on Puligal. I do not start with a bias.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Outsider,

All I can tell you is that don't jump to conclusions based on comments of few bloggers.

I am a Sri Lankan based in Sri Lanka even before this war started. I repeat THERE IS NO ETHNIC CONFLICT WITHIN SRI LANKA.ONLY A FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM.TAMILS, MUSLIMS, SINHALESE, BURGERS ALL LIVE IN HARMONY IN THE SOUTH AND OTHER AREAS OF SRI LANKA ENJOYING EQUAL RIGHTS. ONLY SUFFERINGS TAMILS IN THE SOUTH WOULD HAVE HAD TO ENDURED IS DUE TO THE LTTE AND THE RESULTANT COUNTER TERRORISM INTIATIVES THAT HAD TO BE TAKEN BY SRI LANKAN FORCES.

"I am a Sri Lankan based in Sri Lanka even before this war started. I repeat THERE IS NO ETHNIC CONFLICT WITHIN SRI LANKA."

I have read what you wrote but the problem I see from my viewpoint is that numerous people seem to disappear from the south and a number of journalists get intimidated, or killed, for their views. Whoever is doing this, be it the ltte, the JVP, or organizations with connections to the government, demonstrates that there are extremists who can, and do, operate freely in the South. This may not be ethnic conflict in the views of many but it is fear and intimidation. And, if that primarily occurs to only one group that group may be inclined to seek their own answer. For a western flavor of the same I will point you to a poem by a German theologian, Martin Niemöller.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_they_came...

Sri Lanka needs to crush the ltte militarily but after that is accomplished Sri Lanka must find a way to win the peace.

  57. Outsider - Do not judge the situation in Srilanka by reading the comments of some angry bolggrs. But some of them have reasons to be angry because tamil terrorist organisation LTTE has destroyed our country & kills innocent lives of all races.
The bottom line is, there is no freedom or freedom of speech when it comes to terrorism. There NO freedom of speech to its supporters to promote such terror outfits.
Just like AL Queda has no freedom to express their views by bolwing up planes on twin towers because of western countries invade & interfere with Arab countries as LTTE has no freedom to blow innocent people srilanka.
The tamis and other outsiders who support LTTE are not any different to the muslims who support AL Quida.
Did you know that LTTE has killed so many high profile politiciens who had the potential of becoming the Prime Minister of srilanka?

Outsider- Looks like LTTE has taken you for a ride

What this noisy demonstrations and public harassment in the GTA are all about?

As a concerned Canadian citizen from Sri Lankan origin, I would like to comment on the demonstrations that are going on around the GTA for the last few weeks. Most of the Canadians who don’t know what is going on in Sri Lanka might be thinking why all these yelling and screaming which is very disturbing and inconvenient to the general public. Thanks to Canadian media, most of the Canadian public has a good idea about Tamil Tigers by now. In brief, Tamil Tigers are a brutal terrorist organization emerged in late 1970’s and they are fighting to create a mono ethnic ‘Tamil only’ dictatorial separate country within the tiny island called Sri Lanka which is multiethnic, multicultural and multi-religious.. Their justification for the 30 years of terrorism and destruction in Sri Lanka is that they are discriminated by the majority of Sinhalese in Sri Lanka. This is a totally false justification for a 30 years of long conflict that has been killed 2 heads of states (Sri Lanka and India), and close to 70,000 people. After four attempts of peace negotiations which Tamil Tigers used only for regrouping and smuggling much needed military hardware using the hundreds of millions of dollars donated mainly by their Canadian supporters, the present Sri Lankan government launched a massive military campaign to eliminate this brutal terrorist organization since 2007. In parallel, the Sri Lankan government is working with Tamil democratic political parties to devolve power and redevelop these areas that were destroyed by this long war. As a result, the entire eastern region which was previously occupied by Tamil Tigers is now under speedy rehabilitation program using foreign aid and with the help of Tamil and Muslim democratic political parties. The innocent Tamil people living in this region finally breathing fresh air without any sulfur smell.

During the last few months the Sri Lankan armed forces have flushed out most of the Tamil Tiger terrorists from the northern part of the country to recapture ~95% of the occupied Sri Lankan land and to liberate tens of thousands of innocent Tamil people living in these areas from the clutches of this terrorist group. Until then, the Tamil Tiger propaganda was hiding the facts on their defeat from their Tamil supporters so they were able to continue their fund raising activities. However, during the last few months these Tamil Tiger supporters have got to know that hundreds of millions of dollars that they were donating to Tamil Tigers during the last 20-30 years have gone to waste and they are almost going to be annihilated in a few weeks time. Meanwhile, their cadres in the GTA may have influenced these Tamil supporters to go to streets and protest and sling all the ‘mud’ including the word ‘genocide’ against the Sri Lankan government and the military forces so they could save the last 5% of land occupied and the lives of their inhumane terrorist leaders. In fact, it is the Tamil Tigers who have shot dead and cut legs of the innocent Tamil people who were trying to flee to enter in to the government controlled areas. As a result of this heavy unexpected defeat and to make innocent Tamil people’s life more miserable, Tamil Tiger supporters in the GTA have gathered in large numbers at every corners and streets in Canada to show their moral support. If you happen to hear this noise and see all the lies on white placards of a frustrated, disappointed and large scale misinformation and mud slinging campaign now you know that it is just to provide last minute breathing air to this terrorists group. It is noisy, disturbing and regretful to see these events in a country like Canada but at least I hope there are some courageous Canadians who can ask that how much development could have been done and how much lives could have been saved if these street screamers have donated this hundreds of millions of dollars for the development of these areas instead of donating to a terrorist organization. Regardless of what lies and wrong information that they are trying to disseminate to the Canadian public, we always know that truth will win and peace will be achieved in Sri Lanka with this hybrid political-military solution to become the first country in the world to win the global fight against terrorism.

Now using the opportunity that Canada provide (free demonstration), Tamils accept the fact (yesterday rally) all Tamils from Sri Lanka are belongs to “Tamil Tigers” that’s mean they all belong to terrorist organization which branded by Canadian government including USA and other countries. The fact is most of them scared once no conflict in Sri Lanka most of them on asylum will have to pack

It is time to do another round of so called colonization. We need to re-settle Sinhalese back in villages created by our ancient kings without disrupting the land occupied by Tamils.

All the provinces in Sri Lanka has to have a uniform ethnic composition. This will ensure each and every person in Sri Lanka get an equal share of access to opportunities. It is time to invite Sinhalese back in to the provinces of N and E. Most importantly, equal ethnic distribution will reduce future crisis related to the territorial integrety of Sri Lanka.

One of the the best way to do this population redistribution of creating permanent military bases in these areas and providing the heroic Sri Lankan soldiers well needed land that was used by their ancestors around the lakes created by ancient Sinhalese kings.

At the end, these areas will see a development benefiting both Sinhalese and Tamils in the area.

This is Sri Lanka for new ages - think about it. Don't let anyone tell you you can't. We were told so many 'you can't' and we have risen above them.

  68. Who are killing Tamils?

Now LTTE supporting Tamil Diaspora are crying Tamil genocide in Sri Lanka. I would say most of these Tamils are not even Sri Lankan Tamils. Most of the Sri Lankan Tamils are peace loving people who live side by side with their Sinhalese brothers and sisters. They have no problem living in one Sri Lanka. They think themselves as Sri Lankans.

When LTTE started creating trouble in Sri Lanka, most of the other non Sri Lankan Tamils assumed themselves to be Sri Lankan Tamils. Sri Lankan Tamils usually belong to high casts of Hindu religion and are highly cultured. They were usually well to do and have hardly any reason to go out of the country. However, the Britishes settled South Indian low cast Tamils outside their country inn regions such as Africa, Sri Lanka and Malaysia for their estate work. These were desperate communities and were ready to anything to come out of their desperate status. They are also referred to as Coolies.

These coolies were well known to be economic refugees in these parts and usually would take the first opportunity to migrate to developed world, who are responsible for uplifting their living conditions. Sri Lankan (and other high cast) Tamils referred to these people as Sakkilli and Kochchi. Most of them turned away from Hindu religion and became Christians, where such cast systems were not apparent.

So this Sakkilli Diaspora created by the Britishes took the opportunity and cried wolf just as LTTE started its action and fled to developed world claiming they are Sri Lankan Tamils. However, Sri Lankan Tamils, being patriotic people did not really tolerate this. After all, they have Sri Lankan royal blood in them. They have ruled this country peacefully for centuries and have worked for the betterment of Sinhalese and Tamils alike.

So these Sakkilli and Kochchi started annihilating true Sri Lankan Tamils. They started with Alfred Duraiappah. People such as Lakshman Kadirgamar were even candidates for Sri Lankan leadership. But LTTE did not need a non Sakkilli leadership even under Tamils. So the killings went on. Additionally, they continued to recruit child soldiers from Sri Lankan Tamils and expose them to the war, so the Sri Lankan Tamil race dies out. Afterwards, Sakkilli and Kochchi can claim the resources in the areas where these Sri Lankan Tamils lived while also drawing on economic refugee status from west.

This is an economic game of Sakkilli and Kochchi who have been resident in Sri Lanka, India, Malaysia and South Africa for their own economic benefits. So called Sri Lankan Tamil Diaspora does not entirely consists of Sri Lankan Tamils. Sakkilli and Kochchi from other regions of the world also claim they are Sri Lankan Tamils who are harassed by Sinhalese and fled Sri Lanka. Unfortunately they don’t have to prove their Sri Lankan citizenship.

So, it is these outside Sakkilli who destroy Sri Lankan Tamils and Sinhalese while bringing disrepute to this island for their personal economic gains. Now they shout genocide because their livelihood justification is about to be destroyed. We need to get rid of LTTE sooner. Well, as a Sri Lankan, I would say the only way forward is getting rid of these Sakkils, good riddance!

    No they have not.

The ltte leadership is the primary reason the people of the Vanni have suffered their current situation. The leaders of that organization are first and foremost interested in their own grip on power. The well being of those that lived under them was only an afterthought.

I will go back to my original statement that after Sri Lanka wins the war, it must win the peace. Otherwise the situation that created the ltte in the first place will still exist and you may find it starting all over again.

The war is more than the fighting at hand... the fighting is a battle as is the search for political solutions and between them they make up the war.

So yes... the political battle, a battle far too long in coming and thin in preparation, is every bit as important as under-mining the military and geographic assets of the LTTE.

Both sides have backed themselves into corners and need to reconsider their positions but neither are possessed of the leadership character required.
