Troops move into Pooneryn

Sri Lanka Army (SLA)’s 58 division, spearheaded by commando units, have moved into the LTTE stronghold of Pooneryn. SLA units have now entered the Pooneryn town area and several groups of LTTE cadres have fallen back further north towards Kalmunai Point (K-Point). Fighting is still going on.

Meanwhile the 57 division operating south of Kilinochchi have reached the town’s outer borders. On another front, Task Force 3 have made advances into Kokavil area.  More updates as we get them.

  1. This is what we expected! This is what all Terras told that we cant! This is what is going to happen to all other LTTE areas. Just keep your fingers crossed!!!

This means 58 moved before all LTTE cadres escaped. i.e. Faster than even LTTP expected.

    Did SLA cutoff B69?
    Did Nallur also fall?
Did SLA reach the coast crossing B69?
How many cadres we expect to be trapped there (in K-point)?

  3. A land connection to Jaffna. An end to Jaffna infiltrations. Navy can move to east. Logistics and escape to India cut. No more talk about LTTE only giving up non critical areas. No more dependency on the goodwill of TN police.

The 53 and 55 will be making their move now.

There will be many foreign Armies getting advice from the SLA in the future. There's no doubt abt dat.

We are right behind you SLA. Let's finish the remaining monkeys as well.

The best part of the movie has just started. We will see monkey leaders surrendering, changing sides, fleeing the country , suiciding.. etc etc in the coming weeks...watch out guys..it's fun time....

  19. Breaking News from LTTE;

After so much Strategical and Tactical Withdrawals.... LTTE says that they have now abandoned those two strategies as its hard to keep pace of Running from their bases.

They are now recruiting the best 100m and 200m sprinters from IDPs for their Elite units such as Charles Anthony and Imran Pandyan.

They have even revamped their Training programs for this requirement. Some new cadres are put into FDLs as part of the Training programs. So they can choose the best runners. The cadres who comes back will be promoted! Others... REST IN PEACE!!!

We couldn’t have done this without the correct leadership. We could not have done this without the dedication of all the soldiers. We are ever so grateful to these men & women who risk their lives everyday for our future.

So, what you are saying is that we cannot take Pooneryn & K-point, am I right? Thank you for saying something clearly at last. We will wait until we get Rupavahini crew into Pooneryn to see if it has actually fallen or not (I have no doubt but live video will prove this to you beyond any doubt). And we will wait patiently until the last tiger is wiped out from K-point and then we'll see what you have to say about it.

    Until then, enjoy!

Thank you Peeter, you seem to be starting to understand the reality now.

Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu will have the same fate as Pooneryn no matter what you say or do.

The saddest part for you is that Mahinda is not going to stop at winning the war, he is going to re-build these areas, once that happens, you'd have truly lost the war. Hey, what can you do, life sucks as a terrorist, just get used to it.

  32. Rajapaksa claims occupation of Poonakari

    [TamilNet, Saturday, 15 November 2008, 09:07 GMT]

Sri Lankan President and Commander-in-Chief of the SL Armed Forces Mahinda Rajapaksa on Saturday claimed that his forces have occupied the "full stretch of the A-32 road" (Mannaar- Poonakari) and the Poonakari area Saturday morning. "Now, we can open a land route to the Jaffna Peninsula after many years; I think we can say, it was after the Second Eelam war," Mr. Rajapaksa said in a message to the Sri Lankan media.

The road he mentioned is not actually a land link to Jaffna. In between, there is a couple of kilometers of ferry route in the Jaffna lagoon.

Mahinda Rajapaksa"We congratulate the war heroes and express our sincere gratitude to the citizens of Sri Lanka who have given their unstinted support to our struggle," Mr. Rajapaksa said.

"At this moment, I very clearly call Prabhakaran of LTTE to immediately lay down your arms and come to the negotiation table. It is the greatest service that you can do to the people in the Wanni," the message said.

The statement is seen as a veiled threat addressed to the people of Vanni, Tamil political observers note. The SL president's statement in New Delhi to reporters that 'the whole world will look after the Tamils' is also seen not merely a sarcasm, but a serious threatening to mean the Tamils have no place in Sri Lanka on the line of the recent comment by the Sri Lanka Army Commander Sarath Fonseka that Sri Lanka belongs to the Sinhalese.

There was no mention of casualties in his message.

Pooneryn Not Captured By the SLA; It’s Merely Tactically Relocated©
News Send feedback » [TamilNet, Saturday, 15 November 2008, 13:10 GMT]

Responding to reports coming from pro-GoSL media, the LTTE spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan stated to TamilNet a short while ago that the strategically important base of Pooneryn has not being captured by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA)

Pooneryn he said has being Tactically Relocated© to a more secure location in Tamil Eelam where the completely non Gay Tamil Eelam Fighters can enjoy Liberty, Racial Purity and freedom from Sinhala Homophobia. This extrodinary echivement was made possible thanks to the esteemed Tamil Eelam Scientists working day and night to save Eelam he further added.

Obviously we are unable to give away the new location of Pooneryn at this time due to security reasons but we here at TamilNet would like to reassure our readers that it is completely secure and in the hands of Tamil Eelam forces.

With these kinds of extraordinarily achievements the Tamil Eelam struggle is closer to victory than never before.

  38. Iqbal Athas, defence correspondent for the Sunday Times in Sri Lanka, told Al Jazeera that the move by the Sri Lankan army may not be very significant.

"In the context of this long-running war, it may not be that significant because there are many other rebel-held areas," he said.

"But it is worth considering now that the entire western coast is now in the army's control."

  40. no mess,

Iqbal Athas is an anti Sri Lankan doofus. His passion is to downplay what our forces are doing and demoralize the Sri Lankan public. He effectively acts as an agent of LTTE to demoralize Sri Lankan public. He has the nasty habit of calling Vezapillai the terrorist "Mr. Prabakaran." Either he has no idea of the usage of "Mr." or he implies that Vezapillai is a respectable man in this mind. Yet he pretends to be a "defence analyst." In addition he has been caught red handed trying to cook up stories. With new blogs like DefenceNet and DefenceWire, Athas has become irrelevant. Nevertheless, we need to watch this man for any covert LTTE related activities. Hope our MI is already on to Athas!

Our guys definitely have a plan and are working on it.

  44. STRATEGIC POONERYN’s FALL A HUMILIATING BLOW TO TIGER SUPREMO; BATTLE OF POONERYN EFFICIENTLY ACCOMPLISHED

KILINOCHCHI: THE phenomenon of the rapid and complete capture of the strategically significant POONERYN by the Sri Lanka Army, precisely after 15 years of LTTE domination, marks the entire liberation of the western coast running from the southern SILAVATHURAI, MANNAR to the northern most POONERYN lagoon.

The POONERYN lagoon in the extreme northwest of the KILINOCHCHI District during the span of all ‘Eelam’ wars has remained ferociously notorious as a result of the string of military debacles, confrontations, LTTE losses and various conflicts after this strategic base, then a defence complex of the government troops, fell to the enemy, exactly 15 years ago on November 11, 1993 following massive LTTE attacks directed on the troops.

The complete control of the MANNAR-POONERYN (A-32) Highway stretching up to the POONERYN in this way shortly enables the Army to bag even the POONERYN-PARANTHAN cross-road that lies, about 6 Km to the north of KILINOCHCHI town center and about 14 Km to the south of famous bottle-neck, ELEPHANT PASS.

All three fighting Divisions in WANNI (57,58 (Task Force I) and 59) with supportive Task Force-III troops are firmly determined to further breakthrough LTTE defences and continue their advancing military thrust against the terrorists. Raising of the Task Force-I on July 2, 2007 on an initiative taken by the Army Commander himself, particularly to trigger striking and sophisticated assaults against the enemy, provided further teeth to the offensive troops which subsequently received marching orders targeting Tiger hubs on September 23, 2007.

On that ill-fated day, a pre-dawn LTTE attack codenamed ‘Operation Thavalai’ (fog) unleashed on the then existed POONERYN Defence Complex of the Army & Naval troops, using both land and the lagoon simultaneously for the attack on November 11, 1993, took the Security Forces by surprise since the enemy had by then managed meticulously to infiltrate the defences of both Army and Navy troops before the terrorists overran Army gun positions and armoured positions that were used to observe and attack Tiger movements in the area.

LTTE’s strongman late Thamil Selvam, who was their former second in Command to the Tiger forces, ordered his armed men to continue the attack on the POONERYN Defence Complex but Thamil Selvam was suddenly made disable when a shrapnel of a retaliatory Army rocket hit his leg wounding him badly.

Tiger terrorists however undeterred by Thamil Selvam’s injury stepped up their thrust forward into the Defence Complex continuously for about thirty six hours with enthusiasm and the support given by their anti air craft fire which in turn prevented any air support forthcoming for the support of the Army on the POONERYN Defence Complex.

Irrespective of the concerted efforts of brave Army soldiers and elite Naval Commanders, the troops had to withdraw, being unable to provide defence fortifications to the larger part of the Defence Complex.

It is also worth recalling how the Army Second Lieutenant K.W.T NISSANKA who was then a platoon Commander sacrificed his own life enabling his own troops to move away some of his wounded soldiers for treatment. As the enemy was circling, he removed the pins on two grenades and ran towards the enemy and made the grenades explode killing him and the attacking Tigers instantly.

Though a large part of the Defence Complex base remained overrun, several pockets of brave soldiers in peripheral units by dawn the next day (November 12, 1993) were still holding out in bunkers along the shore covering the retreat of their fellow soldiers. In addition to the loss of military hardware, arms and ammunition, etc at least two hundred soldiers were captured alive or went missing or were executed afterwards by the LTTE.

Another two hundred and forty-one soldiers including four officers were confirmed killed in the fighting itself. The devastating 1993 fight in POONERYN killed at least 469 Tiger terrorists. The valiant platoon Commander was posthumously awarded the PARAMA WEERA VIBHUSHANAYA, the highest gallantry award of the Sri Lanka Army.

Since the fall of the POONERYN Defence Complex Tamil Tiger terrorists converted it to be their bastion to disrupt the Army and Naval supplies to the JAFFNA peninsula while using other coastal littorals to conduct their smuggling operations and artillery/mortar fire attacks on the troops serving the JAFFNA peninsula since its geographical location overlooks JAFFNA-KILALY lagoon and proves it to be the nemesis for clandestine Tiger terrorists. The then Defence Complex was a major hindrance for Tamil Tiger communications between WANNI and the JAFFNA peninsula. This land mass in POONERYN also provided a sound base for dreaded Sea Tiger operations that had been conducted intermittently aiming the JAFFNA peninsula.

The fall of POONERYN which is regarded a fatal blow to the LTTE supremo PRABHAKARAN himself hereafter provides the Army as well as the Navy manifold advantages as the humanitarian military operations in the WANNI are speedily gathering momentum after valiant troops pierced the LTTE earth bund and forged ahead, forcing the panic-stricken terrorists to dismantle their long range artillery guns from POONERYN and carry them elsewhere.

Possibility for the re-opening of the A-32 Main Supply Route, Linking JAFFNA mainland with POONERYN, Loss of the entire western coast to the LTTE and its Sea Tiger operations, Severing of LTTE supplies of logistics via Sea routes, Ability to re-establish Sri Lanka Navy observation posts, Possible blockade of passage of Tamil refugees to TAMIL NADU, Deprivation for firing of the LTTE’s long range guns against vital security establishments and a host of other strategic advantages are thus provided to the Security Forces and the Police in the entire northern region following this rare and remarkable military achievement.

Analysts define the POONERYN capture as a devastating and a humiliating personal blow to the Tiger supremo, PRABHAKARAN who reaches fifty four years in a couple of days and dreams to commemorate their upcoming ‘Maveerar’ day which is generally heralded with a bloodbath during the last few years.

LTTE’s KILLING FIELD ‘POONERYN’ in ARMY HANDS

KILINOCHCHI: THE much-awaited re-capture of POONERYN, which has in the “Eelam” war of nearly three decades, gained notoriety as the LTTE’s ‘prestigious’ killing field, was completed by heroic troops of the Task Force-I (58 Division) as the dawn fell on Saturday (November 15, 2008), the Army Headquarters officially declared this morning (15).

The strategic and most successful advance of the Task Force-I troops, commanded by Brigadier Shavindra Silva covered the entire remaining stretch of some 9 km length on POONERYN-MANNAR (A-32) Highway in the last forty-eight hours after the troops previously seized several coastal towns and hamlets, including NACHCHIKUDA, KIRANCHI, PALAVI and finally SEMPANKANDU, which witnessed heavy attacks against trapped and fleeing Tiger terrorists who began to pull out along the stretch of land that leads deeper into POONERYN, unable to face the fire-power of the dominating troops.

Under the able and impressive command of the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka, Major General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander Security Forces Headquarters WANNI (SFHQ-W), executed fighting strategies and offensives in consultation with respective ground Commanders of the Divisions, Brigades and other Units, despite barrages of stiff LTTE resistance the troops had to face right throughout.

This most important capture of POONERYN, the LTTE’s oasis for artillery, mortar and other gun positions, would certainly record a major accomplishment in the annals of Army history and would soon enable the resumption of the ferry service across KILALY lagoon in the peninsula once the entire MANNAR-POONERYN (A-32) Highway was declared safe and opened as a main land-route for supplies.

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Sarath Fonseka this morning (15) called on His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces to inform him of the capture of this strategic battle field that constitutes a landmark in the war against LTTE’s orgy of violence and fighting for separation.

It is too early to celebrate complete victory but the recent victories must be applauded. Sri Lanka Government feeding Prabakaran, his wife children, his men for more than a quarter of a century -V.Anandasangare

The T.N.A. Members of Parliament had failed in their duty to tell the Government of Tamil Naad that all these years, for more than a quarter of a century, it is the Sri Lankan Government that had been feeding the L.T.T.E. Leader, his family his cadre, and the people in the L.T.T.E. held areas. Also President of the Tamil United Liberation V.Anandasangaree challenged the Tamil National Alliance parliamentarians to dispute that whenever a fresh food stocks arrived in Vanni, the L.T.T.E. took all what they wanted and also replaced their old stock with the new arrivals and passed on to the people, the balance. Anandasangaree while emphasizing it was Sri Lanka Government which was feeding the LTTE leader, his family, his cadres he also pointed out that Tamil Nadu has simply ignored his earlier request not to allow the L.T.T.E. to create a "Jaffna" in Tamil Naad

He is suing the Defence Ministry for depriving him of worshipping Madhu Matha that he says, robbed of him his fundamental right. Yes he missed a great opportunity to meet his half-brother in spirituality, Rev Rayappu at the other end ,to form a great connection - to channel divine energy for a very wide audience, indeed. Rev Rayappu has this particular energy in abundance and is ready to dispose of it only for people who are worthy of it; a peasant in a sarong or a woman in ragged clothing do not qualify for the great privilege, even if they wear a cross to show the religious allegiance to the Christ.

Jayalath Jayawardena, who loves to boast himself as a practising Catholic, is all over the places of religious significance from Vatican to Lourdes, in accumulating the blessing of the Holy Trinity. Unfortunately, nothing has materialised in terms of his ultimate political ambitions apart from extracting wrath from both the Catholics and non-Catholics for using religion as a platform for cheap publicity.

God who created the world in six days while taking a well-earned rest on the seventh - Genesis Chapter: 2 Verse: 1 - knew that the descendants of Adam and Eve would produce misfits of Jayalath Jayawardena calibre. That is why the Holy Book, the Bible, is full of references that warn its followers of the fact that the Almighty is watching the heart, not the lips of human followers.

The serial failures of political prayers of both Jayalath Jayawardena and his half-brother in spirituality, Rev Rayappu, are the bricks of the monument that the public make on their behalf to symbolize the combined-stupidity.

The cross that Jayawardena may proudly carry hanging down from the neck makes him neither pious nor religious. On the contrary, that makes him modern day traitor of Judas stature for using a great religion for self-promotion while using the very institutes that stood for centuries to heal the wounds left over in the name of religion, for wilful sabotage.

Yes, when we see Jaywardena's gut wrenching antics, people feel like hanging him from his balls - provided that he has got them in their entirety.

But, there is a ray of hope, folks, amidst the gloom. The Almighty, who is also omniscient, knew the appearance of Jayawardenas' Rayappuss' and Chikeras' on the planet, especially at difficult times. He made the Lake of Sulphur, in addition to great oceans, to cleanse them of their petty-mindedness.

I wish Jayalath Jaywardena took a crash course in swimming from the Otters Club on a regular basis, instead of pursuing a career in medicine by wasting tax-payer's money for five years.

The almighty will force him to swim in the lake despite his numerous pilgrimages to Catholic Churches of significance - most probably against the current. It may be quite an experience for the man who is so fond of going with the flow - of course when he sees an opportunity to grab a headline.

Bless him in the name of the Hoy Spirit get fit for the nightmare!

Let me assure you that those who supported terror in SL in many different ways are not forgotten, neither forgiven.

Once the military stuff is over, teh govt will pay attention to them, and they will find themselves in hot water wherever they are in the world.

Defence Lawyers in Western countries cost a life, limb and both balls..that's where many of these neanderthal monkeys will have a problem. They lack the balls.

  62. So Dr Jayalath Jayawardena, the UNP parliamentarian is suing the Defence Ministry for depriving him of worshipping at Madhu.

Well the MOD should come to an Out of court settlement with the good Dr, by helping him to complete the “special place of worship” he is building behind the Jayalath Cinema in Seeduwa, ASAP. This is a place of worship where couples come by Tuk Tuk’s to worship an ancient god called Eros.

As the owner of this church he’ll have right of access night and day.

Dr and a holy man – My foot.

  63. UPDATE:

    18 and 20 SLA killed.
    Total 109 Inured.
    (As reported by Tamilnet)

But boys, this is not exactly accurate. Military installations and hospitals have been overflowing with nearly 54 dead bodies and injured SLA soliders are lying in the hallways, outside the hosputal crying since there not enough beds nor medici to treat the overwhelming influx. There are reports the higher comand has ordered the mercy killing of SLA soldiers unable to walk or are fatally wounded immediately so that injured soldiers with less severe wounds can be treated instead....damn how inhumane..

It is also reported the generals are often visiting the wounded soliders, since family is not being informed. This is also seen as a the cowardly act by the upper level generals to stay away from the battlefield.

  64. I sense the fall of Vesikilinochchi would be timed to perfection by the SLDF. The date would be the 27th November 2008.

Any live pictures from Kilinochchi on this day has to be of only one event...

UK based patriots, you may be able to watch live TV pictures of this significant land-mark event of hoisting the Lion Flag over 'Nochchi if you care to be around the Excel Center in London.

  65. Going to EXCEL CENTRE will be difficult due to repairs to the rail track as someone just seen a notice in one of the underground stations to that effect. I would use one’s own car as there’s ample free parking in those car parks. Every one is keen to know what message VP is gong to deliver. Perhaps he will announce that he has accepted MR’s invitation to come back to politics and lead his people from an proper office and not from a bunker, just as Karuna and pillian. Can’t wait for this day!

    sharps mother and father killed.
    Total 2 Inured.
    (As reported by Tamilnet)

But tamil boys, this is not exactly accurate. Military installations and hospitals have not taken these two people due to the fact that they are terrorist supporters. They are being left to die by VP and his gang. It is told that sharps mother loved sucking C*ck, and his father loved it up the A8SS so VP gave it to them both....damn how inhumane..

It is also reported the sharp will to be killed by VP terrorsit gang very soon. This is also seen as a the cowardly act by the intelligent tamils (if any) in the world.

  69. We have not seen any pictures of Pooneryn yet. Quite obviously it could not have been just a beach front from where the monkeys fired their guns, but an established naval and military center which should have buildings etc.

    So where's the proof?

Those in SL, have you seen any media coverage on Pooneryn under SLDF control?

There's some serious doubts being cast on the claim of Pooneryn's capture by the govt forces by some western media, primarily AP who has carried out a systematic slur campaign against SL for many years.

The LTTE doesn't construct large buildings as military facilities which could be easily targeted by air strikes. Don't be surprised to find more than networks of trenches and bunkers.

How does the LTTE do things differently?
