  9. Oh, dear Defencenet is back. A lot of folks lost their posts in the wilderness yesterday, as the last page of the blog stubbornly refused to load for some reason. As it is very common, a conspiracy theory started gaining momentum as well. At last, you are back and we breathe a sigh of relief.

By the way, this is not the first time a UAV got into trouble. I think a similar thing happened last year in Vavunia when the LTTE was very strong there. It crash-landed and we recovered it.

Why the hell you keep talking about civilians when suited? If you are really concern, stop those lot getting trained and give some books to educate them selves.

Child killed, Mullaiththeevu GA wounded in SLA shelling
    [TamilNet, Friday, 08 August 2008, 05:54 GMT]
Sri Lanka Army (SLA) launched an indiscriminate artillery barrage in the early hours of Friday. Official residences of Mullaiththeevu District Secretary (Government Agent) and the doctors of Mullaiththeevu hospital, located inside the hospital premises were hit by the shelling. The artillery barrage killed an 18-month-old baby and caused injuries to 16 civilians, including the GA, Ms. Imelda Sukumar, who was at her official residence and Medical Superintendent Dr. V. Shanmugarajah's wife, hospital officials told TamilNet. Meanwhile, the Director of LTTE's Peace Secretariat S. Puleedevan, blamed the Sri Lankan government for repeatedly violating the Geneva Conventions during its offensive.

Child killed in SLA artillery attack

Government Agent of Mullaiththeevu District, Imelda Sukumar, wounded in SLA artillery fire on her residence located in District Secretariat premmises Mr. Puleedevan, when contacted by TamilNet, condemned the Sri Lankan government for violating the Conventions by 'deliberate and direct targeting' of civilian hospital premises and the residences of its own officials who were also responsible for the humanitarian assistance and monitoring in the district.

According to medical officials in the area, the injured government agent and others were admitted to Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital. Mrs. Sukumar is out of danger.

Many civilians were seen moving from the area after the SLA barrage, which was launched from Ma'nalaa'ru (Weli Oya) area where the SLA on Thursday attempted to advance on five fronts.

  32. Just saw the pics of the SLA artillery attack on Mullaitivu on Tamilnut. There was a grislly picture of a dead girl with her head blown off to pieces (how can they publish something like that). As a father of a baby girl myself, it truly pains me to see those pictures (if indeed they are real). But the point remains, LTTE are using civilians as human shields and this needs to stop (we need to liberate faster!). They have stooped down to the lowest level by putting civilians in the line of fire in order to draw arti attacks and to get sympathy from the outside word. I bet that there were "cadres" cowering in these civilian settlements. The SLA never knowingly targets civilians. The pictures of dead children in bus bombings in the south are even more grissly, but we don't publish them.

    ReplyDelete
  33. IF this happened, we extend our deepest sympathies for the affected people.

Please understand that these are not intentional attacks on civilians like the premeditated, hatred filled, babaric, blood thirsty bomb attacks on the concentrated civilians of all ethniciities by the LTTE.

Perhaps the problem here is that the LTTE has started to use Tamil Civilians as human shields?

This can be avoided if you let these people move to liberated areas and fight the war like men instead of hiding under skirts, sarongs, sarees and trouser shoorts.

So lets start to work toward that end shall we?

I might hold this false yougi by the balls to expose his true qualifications for preaching.

  36. Mohommad,
    It's not a girl but a boy.

    truly shocking picture.

Now how many busses will be blown up in retaliation for this?

But this is very puzzling. Surely the Army knows where the Mulladuva hospital is? Would they even have taken a risk shelling evn the vicinity there?

    ReplyDelete
  37. Guys,

I am saddened by the picture of that little child, who had died due to fire.

We must make the distinction here; it is not deliberate and accidental. It is little comfort for the parents who lost the child in this way.

The savages never made that distinction and may carry out something with the intention of killing as many as possible.

Let's hope and pray that civilians are not put in harm's way in the march towards Mullathivu and Killinochchi.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Thambala,

Agreed, I couldn't look at the picture for too long. We are in the same side in offering our sympathies, that's the difference from LTTE supporters and us. We lament civilian casualties from both sides, but they only lament civilian casualties (who are put in the line of fire deliberately) from their side only and glorify attacks on the south. When I used to work in Colombo, my Tamil colleagues would never attend work or travel on a day where a bombing occurred, i.e. they were tipped off by the LTTE that a bombing was about to occur and to stay at home and out of danger. In the recent rail bombing in Dehiwala, the bomb went off just after it left Wellawatte, any idiot can guess the reason why. Most of the casualties in the South are non Tamil. These are barbarians!

PS, it could be a shell gone astray or there was a gathering of cadres there, that's the only explanation I have.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Puli,
My deepest sympathies. Please pass them on to the berieved parents if you can and want to.

We urge the Tamil brethren in the conflict zone and else where to rise againt the LTTE clutches.

  40. the death of a child in mulaitivu is sad.
may be its the SLA or may be not. however, operations must continue. what matters in the long term is the absence of the LTTE so that civilians of all races can live peacefully.

it is easy to miss the wood for the trees. SLDFs should guard against this. IF it was SLA, it was NEVER deliberate as they have never done deliberate attacks on civilians.

everyone knows tigers are hiding behind human shields. we knew that this barbaric and canibalistic acts of tigers was increasing as their territory shrinks.

IF as a result of this, SLA attacks stop that will set a VERY NASTY precedence. operations must continue.

there is only one way out. ANNIHILATE ALL LTTE TERRORISTS.

we are sure this is unintentional on the part of SLA. the lppe are known to show false and doctored photos.

displaying this photo on tamilnut is a call to the dispora to contribute more. so the level they stoop is unbelieveable even given the known low standards.

I am not saying the shelling may have been staged or that child wasn't killed, but the photos were taken as they are to garner hate and sympathy (at the same time). They have stooped to the lowest level. Recent articles in Tamilnut have been less or bravado and more on sympathy.

Tigers Do another “Vakare” on Mullattivu Hospital

    2008-08-08 13:25:25
MULLAITTIVU: TIGER (LTTE) propaganda lobbyists appear to be once again doing overtime to tarnish the image of advancing Sri Lanka Army troops in MULLAITTIVU district, as fall of Tiger strongholds is imminent in the near future. This time it was MULLAITTIVU hospital.

The latest ruse by the Tigers has come to the fore with the publication of a story in their mouthpieces Friday (8) morning, claiming that troops in MULLAITIVU have fired artillery on MULLAITTIVU district hospital.

The Army categorically denies having fired any artillery rounds and contents of the LTTE canard. It also wishes to remind that Tiger terrorists in the same manner used the same tactic in VAKARE and MADHU when the troops were reaching VAKARE and MADHU areas. Terrorists in both those instances damaged the VAKARE hospital and most recently the sacred MADHU Shrine, just before the troops rolled in.

As of Friday (8), troops of the 59 Division are deployed in NITHKAYKULAM, about 15 km, south of MULLAITTIVU center and have in no way directed any artillery fire towards MULLAITTIVU or its suburbs, as stated in those false reports.

  47. Army denies Mullaitivu shelling

The military denied LTTE allegation that artillery shells fired by the army had fallen inside the Mullaitivu hospital and the Government Agent's (GA) residence injuring several civilians including the GA Ms Emelda Sukumar.

“As of today troops of the 59 Division were deployed in Nithkaykulam, about 15 km, south of Mullaitivu center and have in no way directed any artillery fire towards Mullaitivu or its suburbs,” Military Spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara told the Daily Mirror.

Exactly mate. Once the war is over, the army must read the riot act to this rogue-in-the-robe. I put the blame squarely on the Archbishop Oswald Gomis for not telling this man who the real boss is.

When the church prmises was mined and the big guns were installed near the church oh his watch, he never vented fury. He is fussy with the country's legitimate army.

It shows what works even with the so-called clergy - the brute force. The army was wrong to dance to this man's tunes. They should have been a bit more tough with him; that is the language he understands, apart from Tamil and English.

(But the rest of it doesn't amuse me.)

The Sri Lankan government and Tamil Tiger rebels start their first direct talks for three years on Wednesday. The BBC assesses why they are so important.

The Tigers have their own police in areas under their control

Whether the Sri Lankan government likes it or not - and they do not - the Tamil Tigers have established a de facto state in the north-east of the country.

When you drive through the "border" post into their territory, you have to set your watch back half-an-hour to Tiger time. Here, the Tigers are running everything and they let you know it.

During a recent visit, as I drove down a quiet country road, a Tamil Tiger policeman took out his gun, took deliberate aim at my vehicle and pulled the trigger.

My driver tried to swerve but it was too late, we were hit - with a speeding fine.

There aren't many rebel groups that take traffic violations seriously.

The Tigers are still banned in the US and UK as a terrorist organisation.

Yet it is one of the absurdities of the situation in Sri Lanka that you can find yourself debating the finer points of highway etiquette with a group better known for its devastating use of suicide bombers.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Shan, my dad used to work in the police with Nimal Leuke (he was his sparring partner in the boxing ring in the YMCA as well). He said that this rogue in a robe hid and protected a bunch of tigers when they were fleeing after attacking a high profile govt/army/police target in the 70s. I can't recall the exact details as my dad as with all dads was rambling and I was pretending to pay attention, but the bit that I did pay attention was the fact that he did provide shelter to the Tigers and was involved in the movement from the early days. Also, one of my Sinhala best friends went to a seminary briefly, he says that within the seminary the Sinhala Brothers and Fathers referred to him as the "Kotiya". He also says that the fact that Oswald can't do anything is because the Vatican sees all Catholics in Sri Lanka as one and any attempt to discipline is seen as a split in the church. Thus, Oswald is powerless as his boss, the Pope doesn't want him getting involved in shutting up the LTTE Bishop.

old Blightey..”?? What sort of place would that be my good chap? We too have old London Transport red route master busses here you know. KFC is running one as a mobile food outlet, two are being used by a charity set up to help tsunami victims, another couple being hired out for special occasions like weddings, ethnic tours and all....you know it makes sense bruv....

The weather here is lovely jubbly I must say. We have only three seasons here in Pukka Land, hot, hotter & hottest - served with or without rain. The only thing is that you can have all three seasons in one day. But as of late in these parts we have rather a large bar-b-q going on whatever the weather (wink wink). Sorry you’re not having muck luck with yours; the weather I mean. From the picture books I have seen, “Blightey” summers are most beautiful. What’s gone wrong? Have the Diaspora spoilt the weather too with the large amounts of cow dung they off load in to the environment?

Anyway, keep the imbeciles keen if you like, strictly for comical purposes of course. I will sit back and watch the fun.

Ah..here's one more just above this post...

  71. as sad this situ is what peelamists should understand that if SLDF wanted to target tamil civilians and kill them... the body count will be a lot more higher...
the only party to benefit from something like this while loosing base after base, town after town is nobody other than ltte...
SLDF gains nothing by doing something like this...
most probably ltte did this themselves to put the blame on SLDF...just like they did it in Vakarai...
Still a loss of an innocent child's life this way is really saddening.. :( :(
LTTE are the last ones to talk about child deaths after being responsible for 1000's of dead child soldiers... Peelam supporters should realize the fact that it's not sldf whose experienced in killing kids but the ltte...
Pray that innocent child rest in peace and may go bless her soul.
once SLDF wipes out this tamil terrorist curse all these lives will be saved... godspeed our sldf bravehearts

Also they have been scamming the gullible Brits which even Del Boy would be proud of. I am sometimes forced to buy vegetables and groceries from diaspora shops as there are no Sinhala/Muslim shops selling MD Wood Apple Jam, Maliban Lemom puffs and gotu kola(I can't live without those). Thats why I said that I may have bought vegetables from Shyam / Kuttu / Thiru in the past. Also, don't forget that I need my monthly Thosai Masala Vadai which I need to go disapora restaurants to get.

If by your logic, every person in the Wanni are civilians, there are no LPPE, and going by that logic we should be able to march straight into Kilinocchi as civilians don't attack armies, so what is preventing our army from waltzing into Kilinocchi?

  80. Thiru,

I was only five in 1983, but I remember it vividly, and the thing that I remember the most is going to my aunt's house and seeing two local Tamil families being sheltered there. I think about 15 Tamil people in total from our village were being hidden and protected in her house from the mobs burning down their homes. I remember taking bread and curry that my mother made to my aunt's house to give to the Tamil villagers. The people burning their house were the local drunks and they all met horrible deaths later on (hit by trains, bitten by rabid dogs / snakes, dying of liver failure). So don't paint every person with the same brush mate. My father grew up in Jaffna in the 60s and 70s and he says he doesn't ever remember any animosity between the two communities. In fact, he says he wasn't aware who was Tamil and who was Muslim.

"more of our innocent blood spilled on the soil of our thamil homeland, and u barbaric bruts can't even send a sincere apology and instead try to switch the blame, this is exactly why there is still a war in this islan,"

#1 there is no such thing called Tamil homeland, it is Sri Lanka which belongs to every Sri Lankan citizen regardless of the ethnicity. So you can fly a kite for that subliminal claim.

#2 LTTE did the same in Vakarei and blamed on SLA later found to be a blatant lie. Your terrorist LTTE has the habit of spreading blatant lies and you should verify it before crying foul. in addition, your terrorist LTTE brutally kills Tamils in the name of liberation. So for killer of that nature, killing a child is nothing.

"the sunhala chauvunists want to destroy the thamil homeland. Every action does have a reaction, sometimes one that is more deadly, sinhalas in the south must take action against their government to prevent more of their blood being spilled, the eelalan force has repeatedly warned against these cowardly attack by these state terrorists. What happens from now on is ur governments fault the innocent sinhalas that will be sacrificed is on his head."

#3 Once again, there is no Tamil homeland in Sri Lanka. This is a false claim. Currently Tamil Sri Lankans are living in the other parts of the country including the Eastern province with no such problem. Once we liberate all the citizens of Sri Lanka from you the LTTE terrorists this will be over. Until then stop engaging in terrorism and ask your mater Veza-piilai to surrender immediately.

    2) More importantly, DPU's sole target is VP's most prized possession and her name begins with D. The DPU has no time to go after inoccent farmers on foot bicycles. Shyam, be afraid, be very afraid.

"Tamilnet: Family man killed in SLA, DPU Claymore attack in Vanni

The south on the other hand has no idea how many soldiers are dying and getting injured, defence.lk is the biggest bulshit site there and yet you and defencenet condone that, this is a clear show of the singhala chauvunistic attitude toward the tamil ethnic minority."

you are verey true Thiru. I agree with you. We Tamils (LTTE) won’t disclose our causalities by daily basis. Our supreme boss VP conducts a ceremony to facilitate war heroes at heroe's department every month and he also invite war hero’s wifes to that ceremonies. Sinhala modhaya won’t do that sort of thing. Innocent Tamils get arrested every day, I guess this type of innocent Tamils you are talking about are once who blow passenger busses with bombs and blow up human bombs in front of innocent civilians. I guess they are the same innocent kind who illegally hold on to a part of Sri Lanka. thiru LTTE terrorist, have you been to East or any other part of Sri Lanka recently? No part of the country is normal as long as you the LTTE terrorists are there. Even though things are not perfect, except for terrorists like you, anybody else can live peacefully. Give up your terrorist life and join the rest to live peacefully in a united Sri Lanka. Ask your master Veza-pillai also to do the same. In case you are blind, look at how well respected Karuna, Pilliyan, and TMVP are. They are highly respected citizens of Sri Lanka. Now that LTTE is cornered in Mullativu and Kilinochchi, they are doing the best to create negative publicity for our armed forces. Just a few days ago, they tried to reach UN for ceasefire. LTTE had requested on an urgent basis claiming that our forces were attacking the Tamil people of the Kilinochchi District from two fronts. Given the low life nature of LTTE, they revert to killing own people or publish fake news reports to support their fake claims. LTTE terrorist, like you who are living abroad, cry bloody murder for every fake news in terror propaganda sites like Tamilnet. Please take your terrorist propaganda garbage to a more gullible audience, not to a site where we flock to read military news.

Air Force destroy 3 LTTE nerve centers in Wanni

Sri Lanka Air Force carried out 3 historic air missions targeting 3 of the LTTE's most vital nerve centers in the Wanni during last few hours, said the defence sources.

According to Air Force spokesperson , Wing Commander Janaka Nanayakkara, the first of the triple air raids was carried out last midnight targeting the LTTE's Sea Tiger forward operating base at Nagasivanthurai in Poonaryn.

"LTTE occupations near Nagasivanthurai Jetty , a Radar point and a boatyard was destroyed in this mission carried out by MI 24 helicopters", he said. Speaking further the said that the target was operated as a forward reconnaissance centre by the LTTE.

The defence intelligence sources said that the targeted location has gained much of strategic importance in LTTE's military plans of late, aimed at avoiding the impending military defeat.

The second air raid was conducted by fighter jets at 9.55 AM targeting the main operation centre of the LTTE's intelligence wing located at Iranapalai, North of Puthukkudiyiruppu, in the Mullaittiuvu district. According to the defence intelligence sources, the target was one of the most secured terror base with the highest strategic importance to the LTTE.

Air Force spokesperson citing after-mission reports confirmed the target was destroyed.

The third air raid was conducted by fighter jets targeting the main logistic and victualling base of the LTTE located in North East of Vishwamadhukulama Tank in Vishwamadhu in the Mullaittiuvu district around 10 AM. According to Wing Commander Nanayakkara , the target located 15 Km of West of Puthukkudiyiruppu was destroyed and caught in flames in the attack.

Defence intelligence sources said , that the targeted location was the place where the LTTE terrorists used to hoard food supplies , and other humanitarian aid that they loot from the government agencies and other missions to feed their cadre.

Are you blamming millions of sinhala people of sLanka for the 1983 riots. The 1983 riots were bad to say the least. What about those sinhala people who risked the lives of their families to save tamil families.I saw several of these incidents with my own eyes. This was a politially motivated killing by 2 monkies.Sadly most people did not know or believe it was happenning because something similar had never happened before.People were immature politically at that time.Consider how many times the LTTE has tried to provoke a similar backlash since then(1983)and succeeded. The question you need to ask yourself is: why does the LTTE(ie the saviours of tamil people)risk the lives of the tamil people(currently living in most places on the island) at every opportunity it gets.Who benefits from this..few expats directly linked to the LTTE or the tamil people in general.
    kaatikuddupaan,
We need you to qualify and get a good job so you can help your people in SLanka in future. In all societies you get good and bad people. Its an individual characteristic. If you paint them all with the same brush you are including a lot of good kind people in it.

CHILDREN!!.Of course the big big U.N did not take it further and prosecute those responsible why in god name NOT?.Instead they want our troops back!!.I mean what the hell is going on?

Very well said bro. This diasphora "immigration" exercise started from 1948 and continues on the assumption that the "grass is greener overseas".The LTTE originated at this time way way back conceptually. They just needed an uneducated idiot stupid enough to make it a reality. They have foundout that there are "weeds" among the green grass now.

  139. shyam,

Brother I think you made a small mistake in your comment, you sad that “we didn't run at the IC to stop anything”, Mr Nadeshan has done that (may be you are not aware of that) because sorry lanka has attacked civilian places and killed several family persons. So Hon. VP has given instruction to Mr. Nadeshan to do so. About the “nerve center”, I think our friend Kuttu has already given the answer.

May I ask who is running, funding and supplying these hospitals? So you are keeping high profile LTTE patients in these hospitals and govt is treating them without bias, so you depend on "Sorry Lanka" for medicine and yet you spit upon the very country that fed, clothed, nurtured and educated you. You ungrateful lot will never achieve Eelam.. Why don't you build your own Eeelam hospitals and shift your LTTE patients there and then you don't need to depend on "Sorry" Lanka.

PS, Sri Lanka is the only country in the world that feeds, clothes, educates, and provide hospital care for enemy combatants. And you don't pay any taxes either (as the LTTE collects it for its own purposes), so everything is provided free for you and you are ungrateful. If this was a country like Sudan, they would have starved the rebellion to death (which is what happened in Sudan). You should be grateful that the govt. is more human, otherwise they would have carpet bombed you lot to oblivion.

in the map given at MCNS there is a "V" shaped red (LTTE controlled) area still not liberated by the SLA.

according to the map the bottom of the "V" lies EAST to OMANTHAI. but isn't OMANTHAI still the entry/exit point from/to LTTE controlled areas?

if so this gives a clue about the "V". SLA has not advanced in this area for obvious reasons. that is to continue to operate the entry/exit point for the benefit of the ppl in vanni.

suppose they advanced in this sector (northward along A9), the entry/exit point will be fully liberated PLUS many more land areas. then ppl (ambulances, etc.) cannot cross into govt controlled areas. LTTE CANNOT have a NEW entry/exit point every time SLA advance.

    any views?

It looks like the SLA wants to keep that exit point available to facilitate the exodus the moment the civ. population begins to flee from the area.

All they need to do now is send in small teams backed by air cover to take out LTTE concentrations systematically and the people will run the moment they feel that the guns are no longer holding them in. Once the area is flushed, it becomes open season for the heavy stuff.

We are yet to see some serious artillery use in this war and that may happen once the civillians are evac'd from population centers. Our guys are getting closer to the kill zone and that makes it very important to id where the LTTe heavy stuff is and concentrate on taking those out.

  155. Hello all, this is my first post on this blog, however I have been reading your comments for some time.

This war will be over soon, probably by the end of this year and soon we will have to focus on post war development.

I have been doing some research to understand how countries like Singapore & South Korea developed, and to check the possibility of SL achieving such economic heights. I came up with a simple case study to compare our economy with Singapore.
    *******************************
    Singapore GDP 2007 : 230 billion USD(PPP)
    Singapore population: 4.6 million

Singapore per capita income 49,700 USD(PPP)
    *******************************
    Sri Lanka GDP 2007: 95 billion USD(PPP)
    population 20 million

    per capita income 4700 USD(PPP)
    ********************************
Now..if Sri Lanka's economy is to expand by 9-10% over the next 20 years our per capita income will grow up to 32000 USD(PPP) by year 2030.

    1.1^20*4700=31690

We just need political stability, Peace and a less corrupt government and our children may live in much vibrant country.

Bro i shudder when i think that some true LTTE supporters(probably no one in this blog)have decided to even just speak to us only when the status quo in Srilanka changed.Until then they were ever so happy to let "things" remain as they are(ie:LTTE butchering some innocent people regardless of ethnicity on a regular basis.)

They will have to change, mate. What is the relevance of these sites in a few months time? Even Tiger supporters will stop visiting them for misleading them for so long.

The latest is the way they reported the death of a single soldier to a claymore attack in Batticoloa as 23.

    [TamilNet, Saturday, 09 August 2008, 15:13 GMT]
A 46-year-old teacher and a 35-year-old mother succumbed to their wounds at Puthukkudiyiruppu hospital, where six wounded civilians were admitted Saturday morning after an air-strike by the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) at 10:00 a.m. A 2-month-old baby narrowly escaped death. The indiscriminate bombardment has destroyed more than 10 houses. The bombers also targeted an irrigation tank in Visuvamadu. Tension prevails in Mullaiththeevu district as the Sri Lankan military has stepped up artillery and aerial attacks targeting populated areas and basic civilian facilities.

Two SLAF bombers targeted the densely populated Ira'naippaalai located along the Puthukkudiyiruppu - Maaththa'lan Road in Mullaiththeevu district with at least 12 bombs, according to medical sources.

The teacher who succumbed to his injuries was identified as S. Thayaparan, a father of six. The other victim was K. Pasunkani, a mother of two.

The wounded civilians were identified as T. Suvaitha, 18, P. Rahini, 32, Vijayakumar, 39 and S. Moniya, 25.

After attacking the Ira'naippaalai settlement, the SLAF bombers targeted an irrigation tank and the cultivation field surrounding the tank at Visuvamadu, causing damage to the anicut. No civilian casualties were reported in the second attack in which 12 bombs were dropped.

  185. what ever the bahirav,

Of course, we take anything Tamilnet says as gospel. Isn't this the same Tamilnet who killed 23 SLA soldiers recently, shotdown a heli using artillary etc. Please cook your false terrorist propaganda cooked properly before publishing here.

You are nothing more that group of sub-human terrorist need to be wiped out from the face of this world. As I mentioned time to time, you rightful place are unmarked graves reserved for faceless terrorists.

    Lankaenewspapers:

"UN turns down LTTE ceasefire plea
    Saturday, 9 August 2008 - 7:55 AM SL Time

The United Nations has turned down the LTTE request for the declaration of an immediate ceasefire, Government Defence spokesman Keheliya Rambukwella said yesterday.

The LTTE had made the request to the UN on Thursday (7) and the UN had informed the Government of Sri Lanka about the request.

Foreign Secretary Palitha Kohona was informed by the UN that the LTTE had made the request on an urgent basis stating that the government armed forces were attacking the Tamil people of the Kilinochchi District from two fronts, he said.

But the LTTE had not stated that they would lay down their arms in the event of a ceasefire, Rambukwella said.

Rambukwella also said the LTTE request had come in the wake of the increased assault on their positions by the armed forces in a bid to get the attacks stopped".
