Army commandos kill 13 LTTE cadres : Murunkalayadippudi

LTTE cadres fleeing further north after the fall of their base in Illuppaikadavai were attacked by a group of army commandos in Murunkalayadippudi yesterday evening. 13 LTTE cadres have been killed in this incident. Murunkalayadippudi is located around 3km north of Illuppaikadavai along the A-32 road.

After the capture of Illuppaikadavai yesterday, forces have uncovered an underground bunker complex in the LTTE base. Base buildings were well constructed and it is assumed that 100-150 LTTE cadres were stationed there when it was fully operational. Troops have so far recovered 13 bodies of LTTE cadres who perished in battles in this region.

It was only two days ago the troops uncovered an underwater jetty in recently captured Viduthalaithiv sea tiger base south of Illuppaikadavai. The 150m long jetty could have easily concealed more than 100 small sea tigers boats anchored there.

  7. wow...underwater jetty with 150m length??? that's quite a big engineering undertaking aint it...
this has to have been a very important base to have had such facilities...quite smart too to keep the jetty underwater

doubt the jetty will help us that much cos we operate larger crafts.. unless of course the jetty area is dredged and hold deeper waters

  9. how the hell does an underwater jetty function????

  10. Guys,

The bunkers must be kept intact; they can be a very good tourist attraction in post-war Sri Lanka and the money collected can be siphoned into Ranaviru funds.

As some folks, quite rightly say, I don't have a clue how this underwater jetty function or constructed in the first place; it sounds ingenious. If someone can give us some information in this regard, it is very useful.

The SLAF can expect another underwater Jetty in Nayaru as well, if they can't spot small boats.

Even underwater jetty has a silver line, then. Very intersting, Tigers.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Yeah, I also bit confused about this underwater jetty and how it function??? Can anyone explain please??

    ReplyDelete
  12. I saw many poles( rows with 50~60 poles) rooted in to the sea bed , which is only about 1 foot above the water level, so that boats can be kept there with a rope....
Not much be visible from Air if boats were not there.
    Is this the Underwater thing?
It should be coz Otherwise I didnt see much of a Engineering Skill displayed by ltte in those areas...
If it was something Big,Then it should have been on the Rupavahini,So....
    Just my thoughts..

  13. underwater jetty...
i'm guessing that this is some sort of an underwater structure, probably made of concrete that allows you to tie and secure smaller crafts..
In function it's very similar to a standard jetty except that it's not visible from air and the system to secure the boats to the jetty itself is different...

    ReplyDelete
  14. su,
this underwater jetty was shown on rupavahini.

the boats are turned upside down and pushed underwater to be unseen i guess. if they fill the boat with water it would be hard to launch a quick attack as our intelligence will get to know about people pulling water out of boats.

i think it's something like this. maybe the jetty lies slightly deeper in the water but not so deep that sea tiger fellas can't walk on it and carry stuff in and out..
most these boats have outboard motors and cans of additional fuel and some have boat mounted guns...so sinking the boats in the water seems to be a lot of trouble cos they might as well haul the boat to the shore like lotsa fishermen do

  16. Guys,
I strongly believe we should destroy these asap. Don't let tiger pups to visit them and see the work ... Any signs with tiger symbol must be destroyed when found. Otherwise they could become the work of Martyrs.

  17. DN,
is it a jetty which has a concrete roof where the roof is disguised ? underwater jetty sounds funny. may be they had submarines there. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Here is how I visualized this Jetty:

A jetty has a platform for sailors to walk. And poles to tighten boats.

This particular jetty's platform was built slightly below the water surface so it can not be detected easily.

    Am I correct?

    Please post some photos.

    ReplyDelete
  19. bungu I also think in the same way...
Only that due to Shallow waters only poles are there no visible Structure of a jetty for an obsever from the sky.
Sailors go walking through the hip or much lesser height water.
    :)
I dont think ltte has the Ability to do more than that...

  20. The blogger StopTerror from LNP thinks SLA is over streaching itself for a decapitation strike by LTTE.

    SF SLA is over extending

we need at least another 30,000 reserve forces to guard the rear and prevent infiltrations

need to keep vigilance and not post a lot of analytical information here

for some reason LTTE is allowing SL to advance further, they would not do this without thinking about this

the objective and we hope it is...to launch decapitation strikes breaking up the column of forces in two. right now it is all jungle terrain and LTTE needs road access to execute this. ( we are ready for this), but in the meantime LTTE is readying forces to take out airforce assets.

there are choke points for SLA and as well as LTTE. SLA better guard its flanks because i have noticed as of late
there are many probing attacks on listening posts west of A9 taking place. Also we are noticing lots of LTTE activity on eastern wali oya region

National front seems safe for now and I think we should keep the pressure up on the LTTE on this front to keep their forces occupied.

if LTTE loses EP or our force take kalmunai pt, or we take malavi with the whole eastern flank of A9 the game for LTTE is over.
    Just think

LTTE has not used any artilary lately against SLA forces why? why arent LTTE using their MBRL ? Not that they dont have them, but for some reason they are w/d these assets and getting ready for something special.

I vehimently disagree with you mate on this. They must be preserved and - I forgot in my earlier post - must be named Monumets for Stupidity.

I guarantee that tourists will flock to see these structures. Bungu, if you are worried about producing more martyrs, I would suggest the display of a few torture chambers around as well.

  23. Let us wait till the "fat lady sings" before we talk about what we are going to do with terrorist infrastructure built by the LTTE. Obviously there are two schools of thought with good arguments on both sides. Perhaps a compromise should be achieved - a bit like the Auschwitz death camp which is now a war museum.

Personally I think the LTTE infrastructure should be destroyed except a number of selected key installations which demonstrate the enemy’s strength and the superior strength of SLDF in subduing them. These should be kept in tact as the day they were conquered (with symbols, logos and all) and could be used as memorials for our future generations to see the sacrifices made by their ancestors to keep the nation united. As someone here has already suggested, these could also serve as war museums to generate revenue to look after war veterans.

  26. A jetty is something like this. This image shows a jetty that is raised above the water level, but concrete jetties can also be constructed with better foundation etc. It won't be too hard to make a jetty just below the water level. But I don't see how the boats can be 'hidden'. The jetty will be hidden of course, but any boats harboured there will be plainly visible. Maybe it's a different kind of structure, and not really a 'jetty'?

  34. Hey Qrious,

As I have mentioned few time before too, you are a gifted person. If possible, please spare some change from your gift to do the following,

"The Economist" - The War President
    http://www.economist.com/world/asia/displaystory.cfm?story_id=11671129

Is clearly putting Sri Lanka in a bad light, and contains many factual inaccuracies -too much to list here.

Would you be able to write back to "The Economist" to remove their blinds?

This is a very noble tasks, because significant number of CEOs in the English speaking northern hemisphere respect "The Economist", and still glance through it every week to keep them abreast in world economic affairs.

My business partner is in a board of a large corporation, and in one of the recent board meetings, one of the CEOs of a large corporation (who is a board member of this corporation) has asked, "how is your venture doing in Sri Lanka, 'Economist' was reporting that still lot of trouble there"? My business partner who is well aware of the situation has taken the opportunity to well-educate all the board members, however there are thousands that may need to be educated.

My business partner and I are encouraging more and more businesses to invest in SL (as a matter of fact, we have brought in more than $50M of investment so far over the years to SL).

But BBC M&Frs, AFP, and this kind of LTTE biased overt reporting with covert agendas harm FDI.

Obviously the Sri Lanka is thousand times better than many countries in the world. If any other country had this kind of pathetic barbaric terrorism for this long, it would have collapsed beyond Hiti or Sudan. We are doing thousand times better still. Of course if there was less corruption in the government we could have done million times better too. But still the Economist is wrong. You have the gift to point them out.

By looking at the article and the image, it looks like the article has written by one of the BBC M&Frs... and the whole article seems to be a summary of articles appeared in BBC.co.uk/sinhala during the past few months.

Hint: see the bottom of the web article. They have corrected the wording "Diplomat", which was falsely used by the BBC M&Frs in their article.

  47. As for the jetty folks it's not a technical marvel but an innovative idea executed with minimum resources.

It's something similar to what su mentioned above (Since we didnt know a proper word that could be used to describe such a structure, we used the term 'underwater jetty'.). But the fact is that anchored boats are really hard to detect from air if ground intel was unavailable.

    @perein,
Yes the thin spreading of forces is an inevitable problem whenever land grabbing is involved. This is the reason for multiple recruitment drives (which have been great successes btw). However the fact that LTTE has had very little success with even medium scale counterattacks so far is a good sign.
If you were asking about the recent battles in Viduthalaithivu, areas captured by the commandos are now controlled by the Gemunu Watch (GR) while CR is busy hunting tigers further north.

It does not matter to us as we don't judge soldiers by their race. Only the skill and the willingness to serve the motherland matters.

  84. //LTTE announces unilateral ceasefire during SAARC summit//

What GSL need to do? Just need to continue the 'humanitarian operation'.

Earlier CFA was also started by a unilateral ceasefire by LTTE and later by SLA also doing the same. It is very likely LTTE 'extend' this ceasefire even after the summit.

This cleary shows how importent LTTE to have a break, atleast to reorganaise and go for a counter attack. GSL need to continue the numanatarian operation in order to liberate wanni people, if LTTE make any attack SLA will neutralize them.

    http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=13&artid=26411

What are they upto this time?"

They want a breathing space to form and fortify new defence lines to face Mannar+ Vavunia offensive. I think they (LTTE) caught napping when 58 moved faster than they thought. A smart move by LTTE . We are in a bit tricky situation.

That plus they want to be in IC's good books. Nothing more than a publicity stunt but well timed.

  87. //LTTE announces unilateral ceasefire during SAARC summit//

Joke of this is as per LTTE they nver withdraw from the earlier CFA, they follow it 100%, GSL was the one who abanded the CFA, and LZTE was following the CFA even after GSL withdraw it. But LTZE forgot that and now they offer another ceasefire. So two in one or buy one get one free !!

This speaks what kind of attack it was the SLA/ commando attack.

  88. Mostly agree with you Ninja.

"GSL need to continue the numanatarian operation in order to liberate wanni people, if LTTE make any attack SLA will neutralize them."

This means that the government has to reject the offer. Then if LTTE do something in Colombo during the SAARC the government will be blamed on.

Actually chances are more IC/ india/ Un being behind this. Now they say to GSL "see, tigers are now so good, go for CFA and stop fighting blah blah..."

  91. Any ceasefire now is a godsend gift for the LTTE... which so many of us Sri Lankans will pay dearly in blood, later.

The country, its people, leaders, security system and defence arrangements are fully ready for the summit.

Let's not underestimate the LTTE but redouble our efforts to make the summit a success while TIGHTENING THE GRIP AROUND THE NECKS OF THE LTTE PIGS... wherever they are found.

KILL MORE... during the summit and show our resolution loud and clear to the IC, which is already amazed at the boldness of our moves.

If we behave like cowards and accept these silly suggestions and the WORLD COMMUNITY WILL BRAND US AS WEAK AND STUPID CHICKEN... AND LAUGH AT US WHEN THE LTTE BOMB US INTO PIECES...

And the foreign newspaper boys will have field days glorifying the capabilities of LTTE...

Time to stand TALL... and say NO!

  92. Another point. I barely remember an instance which LTTE was showing an olive branch before the counter attack. (Was it Kilinochchi?)

    ReplyDelete
  93. //This means that the government has to reject the offer.//

Actually GSL do not need to reject. It is ofered unilateraly. This means they just don't attack and (just recruit, reorganise, inflitrate, locate moles, etc now and attack later.)

Since GSL withdraw from earlier CFA now GSL has not accepted any LTZE territory, its all one SL and GSL has all the rights to deploy its troops to maintain low and order in any where in the country. So SLDF will just do that which is same as continuing the ongoing humanatarian operation. If LTZE or any one do not make any disturbence then they will just go ahead. If LTTZ or any one make any resistance they will deel withaccording to the constitution. That's it.

So LTTE has the option to follow their ceasefire and let SLDF do their job or theycan violate their own ceasefire and fight. Its upto them.

In no time, the BBC M&Frs have given the fullest publicity to the LTTE news release that appeared in Tamilnut.

  97. Fellas, ltte got the underwater Jetty idea from the North Vietnamese who, during the Vietnam war constructed underwater bridges along the Ho Chi Ming Trail to avoid USAF bombers. Sea Tiger Base ramp same idea but,abt 2-3 feet below surface built with concrete or steel. Also note Sea Tigers have mobile boat docks that are hidden in the Jungles Along with Boat Trailers that crisscross from Mullaitivu to Mannar. But, wait more SLA goes along the coast dont be suprised to se more of ltte handywork of a Terrorist Group.

  99. NOLTTE=Peace said,

    Economist issue

Mate, I take seriously your concerns. Yes, it is a widely-read magazine by business folks, but its judgements have not been always accurate. So, any sensible person, who reads magazines of this kind exercises caution before abosorbing their forecasts.

As you know, the global economic outlook is not good; high oil price is a thorn in the flesh.

For instance, the USA, UK and Spain are feeling the pinch very bad: house prices are falling; personal debts are mounting; unemployment figure are dreadful.

Yet, economists give us conflicting reports. For instance, an economic correspondent in the BBC wrote, a few days back, that the UK house price has slightly picked up, when the contray is true, to which a reader responded, "stop massaging statistics; we had enough." At least, thanks to the internet, we can now confront them and their hiding places are on decline.

I am not an economist. However, I used to read these columns, written by learned people, as they claim, in the field. None of them forecast the situation we are in now; it all happened in a matter of months, not years. When things went badly wrong, they tried to hide behind this index and that index, but to no avail. In short, their credibility is now on line.

These economists, like their comrades - journalists - are shrewd folks. So, they take precautionary measures now: any bad reporting ends with a bit good or encouraging news or vice versa.

The writers in the Economist are no exception. They are all the same. The envy factor is also there; especially, regarding the well-paid folks in the financial markets. You can see a very thin thread of envy crisscrossing these articles. They love to see the collapse of the empires of investers and stock-brokers; so they imply it all the time.

And also, these writers cater for a certain audience; so, they write what the audience likes to hear, obviously. So, the articles are often shrouded in prejudice and racial superiority too.

If they write something about China, the end bit - gloomy bit - comes in this form: "although, the economy shows a staggering growth rate, the dissension among peasants is alarmingly growing," "China is doing very well, but the pollution in its big cities can bring down the economic gains," to name but a few.

If they talk about India, the gloom bit even takes an outrageously offensive turn.

So, sensible folks in the west, now takes the forecasts by the economists with a pinch of salt - not as gospel truth. They are catching up with the Human Rights Watch. People know they are crying wolf. The Economist is no exception.

Mate, in my opinion, based on experience, they will never write something favourable to us, as long as they can scan the horizon and find a beggar in our streets or a barefooted peasant in our remote villages. They make a mountain out of a molehill and as I said before, appease the particular audience, who loves to see things that way - the Third World is still developing, not on a par with them.

If you want, I can write to them, of course. They may publish it as well. However, their attitude towards our countries will remain the same for the reasons I mentioned above.

My advice is not to be affected by these articles. CEO's read them and then see the thing to the contrary, in reality and then get confused exactly as we humble mortals do.

Be optimistic and focussed. You will weather the storm. We did exit with a wonderful history that span over 3000 years without these people.

If you can get hold of a copy of Economist that was published about 20 years ago, have a look at what they said about China and Inida then?

The journalists who wrote the stuff then, if shown back to them, will certainly commit suicide in shame.

I am sure you will draw a ray of inspiration from that.

Good luck with your joint venture!

    Shan

Thank you very much for your compliments and the publication interest mate. As you know, I am someone who writes for fun in my spare time with a proper profession to make a living. I am busy with that work at present; if I can see a respite, I might think of writing a book. If so, we may be able to get in touch with each other.

Thanks again; enjoy the blog and I will make my positive cotribution to make you all happy, focussed, brutally optimistic with regard to the war.

    Take care, mate.
