VVIP Transport hit by small arms fire

A VVIP transport helicopter (Bell 412) was forced to perform an emergency landing in Ampara today, when it ran out of fuel in mid air. The unexpected fuel loss was caused by a bullet that is suspected to have been fired using a low caliber weapon. The damaged aircraft is said to be in repairable condition. The chopper was assigned to facilitate VVIP transport related to the President's visit to Arugam Bay in the Eastern province.

Meanwhile 8 bombers of the SLAF launched an air attack on a special training base of the LTTE north east of Mankulam. The raid was conducted at 6am in the morning. Casualty details are not available as of now.

In other news, the Air Force has flown several night time missions using its bombers during the past 2 weeks. The bombers flew over Kilinochchci, the de facto capital of LTTE, at least 3 times but did not engage in any bombing raids.

Was any VVIP in the helicopter when the emergency landing took place?

    DN,

Good to know that we are keeping up with day/night air attacks.

What is the purpose of bombers flying over 'Nochchi without any raids? Is it to demoralise the enemy by demonstrating our air superiority? Or are they mere practice runs in the night before the fire works are dished out? Value your comments.

    Cheers.

  3. If the chopper was damaged by small arms fire, it means there is a residue of LTTE activists in the liberated areas who could pose a significant threat. What if the chopper caught fire and was destroyed? We must act as if the chopper was destroyed and do whatever we can to rid the cleared ares of any residue of LTTE.

It was a VVIP chopper because it had a VVIP on board. If not it would have been a 'nikang' chopper!

It was a VVIP chopper because it was assigned for VVIP transportation. That does not mean a VVIP has to be present inside the chopper all the time :)

    ============

    Death Watch or Death Match?
July 1, 2008: The army believes it has killed about 4,500 LTTE rebels during the first six months of the year, while losing about one tenth that number. In the last three years, since the fighting resumed, over 10,000 people have died (plus another 60,000 between 1983-2002). Since the army went on the offensive two years ago, they have lost about 1,700 dead and 4,000 wounded. The army believes they have killed or captured some 9,000 LTTE fighters in that period. Some of those captured were actually deserters, who are a good source of info on what is happening in LTTE territory.

The generals now believe the LTTE is in a death spiral, but still capable to doing a lot of damage if the army gets sloppy. The LTTE maintain a reserve of a hundred or more suicide bombers, plus several hundred trained and loyal commandos. So the deliberate, carefully planned attacks on LTTE bunkers continues, capturing a few square kilometers of LTTE territory a week. In this way, the army now believes it will take about a year to recapture all the LTTE controlled territory in the north and shatter (but not totally destroy) the LTTE. The government assumes that the LTTE will continue as a terrorist organization, trying to maintain bases among radical Tamils living in southern India (where Tamils have lived for thousands of years).

Because the rebels have ruled these northern areas of Sri Lanka for some two decades, they are well organized to defend it. But more and more of the civilians living there (about 400,000 Tamils) are sneaking away, and into government controlled territory. Apparently the LTTE has mobilized everyone and everything for what appears to be a "last stand." Most of the Tamils in the north don't want to be part of that, but opposing the LTTE can get you killed. So those who can, are fleeing. Because of this aggressive recruiting (usually, men and women are just conscripted), the LTTE still have about 5,000 people under arms. But most are poorly trained, led largely via threats to themselves and their families and suffering from low morale. There is little ammo, because of the navy blockade and the destruction of most of the LTTE boats. The government artillery and air force are finding more targets, thanks to the interrogation of captured or deserted LTTE fighters, and the long range army patrols inside LTTE territory.

By containing the LTTE to a small portion of the northern coast, the rest of the country has prospered. GDP was up 6.8 percent last year, and is headed for a seven percent increase this year.

June 23, 2008: After months of effort, the government finally got the LTTE television channel, Tharisanam Television, taken off a European satellite. The government expects the propaganda and funding raising program to show up via another satellite. There are so many satellite channels out there, and so many of them specializing in ethnic programming, that it's difficult to let everyone know that outfits like Tharisanam Television are just there to support, and raise money for, a bunch of terrorists.

  25. Shayam, Peccko and Bhairav,

I Interviewed Mr Nadesan, while pretending to be a journalist by the name, Q Rious. Excerpts:

Q Rious: Mr Nadesan, good morning to you, sir. How are you keeping?

Mr Nadesan: Very well, thank you very much indeed. Which news organization do you represent?

Q Rious: It is rather new in the field, called UFO.

Mr Nadesan: It sounds very new to me.

Q Rious: It certainly does; very new to this world, to be quite precise. Mr Nadesan, I am not going to beat about the bush; let's straight going to the subject, the war.

Mr Nadesan: Very good; very good. We like good journalists like yourself. We have enormous respect for them. Even our enemy on the other side never accuses us of killing a journalist, you see.

Q Rious: We always hear from your enemy. What is your side of the story, Mr Nadesan?

Mr Nadesan: Our defence mechanisms are well in place; our borders are sealed and no possibility of intrusion on my watch.

I suddenly heard some noise that is similar to what you hear when someone packs his or her bags. So, I immediately brought that to Mr Nadesan's attention.

Q Rious: Mr Nadesan, someone seems to be packing the bags. Any one to go on a picnic?

Mr Nadesan: No, No, Mr Q Rious it is my wife. She wants to go and see her relatives in the south. She hasn't gone there for a while. You shouldn't forget your roots, you see.

Q Rious: You must be going as well.

Mr Nadesan: Not at this time; let her go first. Situation is very fluid here right now. I might go later.

Q Rious: Is she flying on TAF?

I hear Mr Nadesan chuckles, quite mockingly in the backgroud.

Mr Nadesan: You see, these people have been telling us about an airport in the south; haven't built one yet, just talk and talk and talk. That is all. There is no place to land an aircraft in the south. Even here we have two air stripes.

Q Rious: You must be having helicopters; they can land anywhere you want.

Mr Nadesan: I am a statesman; she is my wife. Helicopters are for troop transportation, not dignitaries.

I decided to get into the subject matter straight away.

Q Rious: You lost 25 elite troopes of Charles Anthony brigade. Any comments?

Mr Nadesan: Enemy propaganda at its lowest.

Q Rious: The bodies were on display; it can't be a cock-up.

Mr Nadesan: It is wrong; it is we who killed them - I mean we executed them.

Q Rious: You executed your own fighters; these are elite fighters. It is very strange.

Mr Nadesan: It is a rather complicated set of events. I can only explain it off-the-record.

On his insistence, I turned my tape recorder off to get Mr Nadesan's side of the story.

Q Rious: It is off. please go on.

Mr Nadesan: This is between you and me. These chaps were hot blooded males. This is what happened. We deploy girls and boys in equal number to any camp. That is our policy. We give girls an equal place in our organization.

Q Rious: Something unpalatable happened then?

Mr Nadesan: Well this is what happened. The girls, say about 25, go to the Giant Tank to have a bath everyday and together. The boys are supposed to be on extra alert during this time. What these chaps were doing was this: they left weapons behind and were under bushes, playing Peeping Tom. We knew this was going on for some time. This is the time the enemy take the advantage and attack us. So, they were warned against this game and didn't listen and got caught. So, we just got rid of them.

Q Rious: Sex is illegal in your organization. Isn't it?

Mr Nadesan: This is another mud slinging exercise by the enemy again. Boys and girls can practise that, but only after serving 16 years with us. They are rules.

Q Rious: There are people who broke the rules, in the organization.

Mr Nadesan: You talk about our leader. You see, it was love at first sight. Just one exception. He didn't break any rules. He just revised them. No one ever broke the rules again since then. Even American constitution changed so many times.

Q Rious: Where is Mr Illanthirayan? He doesn't pick up the phone any more.

Mr Nadesan: He had a rather unpleasant experience, recently. He can't talk.

Q Rious: What happened to him?

Mr Nadesan: He was struck by an evil sprit.

    Q Rious: How come?

Mr Nadesan: He was walking on his own in a jungle patch in Mullathive and it happened. Now, he is very scared of the outside world.

Q Rious: So, you are going to exorcise him.

Mr Nadesan: You hit the nail on the head. That is exactly what we are going to do now.

Q Rious: Do you have any well-known extortionist in Vanni?

Mr Nadesan: Yes, we have one; a very famous one. Have you heard of Bishop Rayappu?

Q Rious: He is a Catholic Priest, isn't it?

Mr Nadesan: Ha ha haa. He is a double-barrel. He is good at both.

At this point I heard some noise that resembles fire crackers. I immediately brought that to Mr Nadesan's attention.

Q Rious: I hear some disturbing noise in the background. I assume you are not in harms' way.

Mr Nadesan: No no, it is not like that. I just broke wind; you see, I have been sitting here for hours now. Gas accumulates in your bowels. Sorry, about it.

Q Rious: Telephone wires carry only sound, Mr Nadesan, not the odour. You don't have to apologize.

Mr Nadesan, chuckles violently, and even chokes his own phlegm. At this point I decided to suspend the interview for another day.

Q Rious: Mr Nadesan, thank you very much. I will see you again soon.

  27. re: east and karuna in TBL....

i think this is just fear mongering AFTER what happened yesterday. however, the govt. should be wary of the UNP-SLMC plan. they started violence and makes TMVP responds in kind. then they demand that TMVP is disarmed. the govt does that. then tigers infiltrate safely.

it is a VERY good decision by EPDP not to budge from the east. they have not had any violent clashes with muslims in the region.

tigers can infiltrate into the east but they cannot easily re-establish there. pulling a large number of cadres from the north to the east NOW is disastrous. tigers know that east can be easily regained by the SLA as they have done it many times.

anyway the key to success is to increase the killing rate. the chase-away strategy we followed in the east will definetely have bad outcomes. those who ran away are experts in the eastern theatre and i bet they still have vital contacts there.

it is difficult for northerners to stay among the eastern tamils. they are easily identifiable by the easterners. also the CID, etc. are searching outsiders coming to the east. but if LTTE eastern cadres come from the north, these mechanisms won't work!!! that is why they are using the jeyanthan brigade which is made up of easterners to attack the east again. OTOH LTTE still cannot recruit from the east and only those who were chased away will join the jayanthan brigade.

If our politicians have been wise, instead of trying to win votes in EP,he would not have gone to them, soon we may have meet their challenges in the EP as well as in the South. Looks like our politicians have no vision and it would be premature to celebrate any victories in the North, where the credit must go to our brave men in the front, but not to our conniving politicians. They may have infiltrated over 300 carders to the jungles and Estates in the South to fight at another front and Karuna would fit that nicely.Gosl should not have ignored his fate when incarcerated in UK,instead of denying his connection by issuing a false passport. Most stupidest think that was done by the state with all the resources of the experts at their disposal. I will be critical without fear, though I am a party supporter.

These are the folks who are in our country just to wreck things, because they want news and excitement too. The absence of both could make them either irrlevant or in the worst case scenario, redundant. So, these are the folks who pray that the conflict should drag on and on for another thirty years.

Gen Fonseka played into their hands very well - the new dead line is the main news in a lot of News Agencies.

The great soldier knows why they were keen to meet him. He knows the kind of questions they are going to throw at him too. In short, he knows their ulterior motives.

So, tell them officially it will be another year before they see the light end of the tunnel. They they won't bother him by asking for another interview. Nor will they be eager to put up tents in front of the defence ministry to relay the news world over. Going at this rate, no exciting news for these folks and they might leave the country and the rest of us in peace.

General Fonseka doesn't have to tell these guys what he believes and that is exactly what he did. So, let me whisper: don't get downbeat about the revised deadline; it is not for us.

  63. MR had told the cops not to harass the monks and some are happy to hear that and take advantage of this immunity if given at check points etc.Police may be reluctant to check the persons of a religious order because of MR’s order. No decent person would ever demonstrate in the streets against the government when the country is at war. This is a serious and dangerous time in the country and MR should not wobble but expect the cops to be firm with anyone that includes the monks, politicians, government officials or anyone that usually being taken for granted. Desperate terrorists will use any desperate measure with their money to breach the security measures of the country. There must be a sizable amount of terrorists that may have been sent down south as sleepers or hiding in the estates and houses as we saw to our selves on the road from Manampitiya to Mayangenna where some jumped out to the jungles in front of the Air force jungle warfare training camp that was before Myangana.I have written about in this blog earlier. They were escaping the attacks on Toppigala.Perhaps this is part of their plan B,C,D etc.Perhaps they are Karuna's people helping the Government forces. On a such an operation that was conducted in the EP we saw no road blocks all the way to south.

  66. from DJ's article from island.lk......

"The Sri Lankan Army commander is quoted by The Hindu as saying "We do not just go for terrain, we go for the kill. This is the difference between the military operations in the past and the present".

In saying this he is wittingly or unwittingly echoing the wisdom of the greatest general of the post World War 11 period, the hero of Dien Bien Phu and architect of the defeat of history’s mightiest military power the USA, namely Vietnam’s General Vo Nguyen Giap, who incisively defined the goal of all military strategy as being "the elimination of the living forces of the enemy". "

the second para is the MOST crucial. i have been harping on this all along; glad DJ pointed to the KILLING STRATEGY as the strategy of the MOST successful.

HOWEVER, SF was NOT ALWAYS following the KILLING STRATEGY. UNFORTUNATELY, MOSTLY it is the CHASE-AWAY strategy that the SLA, SLN and SLAF follows. this is the reality.

some have even tried to JUSTIFY the CHASE-AWAY strategy!!

    1. although there were some reasons behind it, the eastern CHASE-AWAY has come to haunt us again. LTTE is re-raising its EASTERN CADRES' brigade (jeyanthan brigade) to "retake" the east.

    2. jayasikurui failed bcos of the CHASE-AWAY strategy.

    3. three operations from muhamalai failed to achieve objects bcos of the CHASE-AWAY strategy.

    4. SLN has mostly followed the CHASE AWAY strategy. if you analyse MOST ST encounters (obviously not blue water op.s), the success rate has been less than 50%.

    5. SLAF is doing a great job. BUT it has TREMENDOUS opportunities to KILL if it resorts to do so ACCORDING to first hand experience of SLAF guys. SLAF and SLN were never BIG TIME killers. THEY SHOULD BE. the support function is fine. BUT they must go beyond that and they have the resources.

    6. the OVERALL relevance of the KILLING stretgy has been discussed before in terms of how it can MOST successfully destroy the LTTE's multi-layered hierachchi, extinguish its capabilities, attacking its MOST vulnarable point, etc.

i agree SF is the best we had. BUT it is also a fact that he sometimes exaggerates!!! still that is OK if we are shifting gears to a PREDOMINANTLY killing mode.

Concerned about this Chase away strategy and what I have mentioned above must be part of this strategy and I hope the commander of the forces is now established the correct strategy to finish the job by finishing them of once and for all. In the past the problems seems to just go away and to reappear to torment us again. I hope the new threat to EP is just speculation.

look how he starts, AND INTERESTINGLY HOW HE ENDS!!

"I strongly condemn the attack on the life of H. E the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, which, if successful would have proved disastrous. I wish to tell Mr Velupillai Prabhakaran that this attempted assassination is not less foolish than the cold blooded murder of the former Prime Minister of India, Late Hon Rajiv Gandhi masterminded by you.

I warn you that this type of barbaric conduct on your part, which is virtually a challenge to the International Community, must cease immediately and the LTTE should agree for talks with the government and lay down arms unconditionally. At this rate they will loose even the little sympathy the International Community has for their cause- and not for them- resulting in the whole world joining hands to crush them completely. The developments that are taking place in different countries clearly show that this will take place sooner or later.

I personally think that the LTTE is not taking things seriously and taking the whole thing as a joke. While understanding the genuine concerns of the members of the security forces on this cowardly act, I strongly urge them to avoid overnight detention of innocents arrested on suspicion."

he knows fuccking too well that NIGHT is the time tigers are active; especially those barbarians who bomb the morning rush hour crowd. if a suspect is arrested at night/evening, how can he be released ?

  74. Few ideas folks!

Generally, I am calling to increase more coordination between the three forces.

In this decisive stage of war, we need few more UAVs, precisely the type that can operate both in the day and night.

These UAVs should coordinate with ground units, especially with the Army MBRL and Arti teams. The best method is to guide the Arti and MBRL teams through UAV given coordinates. This will save lot of money too.

UAV to provide coordinates and the MBRL and Arti Teams to give the push

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDW1jSPkSbI
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SL2ECPC4_RA&NR=1

In addition, we should convert an Antonov to a bomber to carry out level bombing on identified hideouts and FDLs, which are away from civilian settlements. This is to apply pressure on FDLs (would speed up the timelines).

  75. Sri Lankan politicians and generals need to stop playing dead-line games with a shooting war. There can be no realistic time frame in an unconventional situation like ours, and it only causes unnecessary expectations that easily turn into frustration when unrealized.
Generals need to stay with their job; fighting the war and the politicians should do the talking, without setting time frames in such situations. And the people must be made to udnerstand that the strategies of war will change as the situation changes.

  76. Guys,
Im not backing RW in his leadership to UNP. But the move to have a Fresh Uncorrupted(Compared to the Bertie & the group) person like Mr.Janaka Perera is surely a good move & I think he deserves a win. MR backing the same old bertie who seems to have not make great efforts to make that change that people in that area expects is reaaly a sad thing.
Yes, people do back the Government even though they are undergoing serious hardships. But this election is to choose people to develop their province. If only MR openup the contest with Fresh reliable people included & say "The one with majority votes will be CM"like in the Eastern...
    :)
Its really Unfair to ask people to back a Man who has not done Things, just because he is from UPFA & a win assures Military moves..
    :(
Another thing that wories me is the Next Srilankan Ambassador to USA !!
I listened to him speak in English.Well if He is going to be the Ambassador, Then better find a good translator to be included in his official visits. He says to have been in Los angeles for a long time,But he really ran short of words & ideas in English.

If he win, he will not desert the NCP people. Coz if he do then he knows that will be the End for his political career.Though He will be thinking of resigning when the next general election comes around.but whether LTTE wait till that much longer is a Big question.
    :(
But Im sure he will have his own set of people who are prepared to die saving him. What ever he says & does in the recent past,He will always have a special place in hearts of every patriot for what he had done in the past.He deserves more & he could make that difference for the good & Hopefully trigger the must needed change inside the UNP too..
    :)
EP election was crucial for the defence & also considering Militery prespective. (parts of NCP also important..but..)But if war & not meeting the Needs of people & corruption are not the same. These elections need more than the "Support the War & Vote" slogans and more close to ground thinking which can reach to the hearts of those people who are not benefitting from any development projects..
MR is going to learn it the Hardway..
    :(
    just my thoughts..

  81. su,

    share some of your concerns.

JCP is here to stay in politix no doubt. BUT he is NOT going to stay with the NCP people.

he is the UNP organiser for maharagama and will be its defence guy as well. as i mentioned earlier ALL UNP CM candidates are ONLY going to contest and resign based on HIGHLY PLACED sources. (anybody would say that anyway).

leaving NCP will NOT end his political career. he has a naional appeal, still.

"...Hopefully trigger the much needed change inside the UNP too.."

this is wishful thinking. BIGGER guys than JCP tried it and FAILED. MODERN DAY UNP is pro-LTTE for a good reason and MOST remaining UNP MPs, its financiers, its media guys, international branches, connected minority parties, etc. want it that way.

it needs a bigger appeal, like rescuing from an economic calamity, to pull it out of its present misery. that too will fade away very soon if it cannot grab the president's post.

OTOH pro-LTTE votes in colombo, CWC/UPF/SLMC have ALWAYS backed the modern day UNP. this is over 2 million VERY FAITHFUL votes.

should the modern day UNP lose them just to woo the floating votes of pro-SL voters for a few months only? i don't think so.

i say modern day UNP bcos an overhaul at the top supported by proven results can change things with SOME DIFFICULTY. pro-LTTE guys WILL DO EVERYTHING THEY CAN LIKE IN 1993-94 TO BRING IT BACK TO HOW THEY WANT IT TO BE.

Lakshman Kirialla is coordinating Polonnaruwa district for JCP. He is the cunt who said “Ona gonekuta puluwan yudda Karanna”. I would eat my typing hand if UNP is able to pull this off.

  83. Guys,

The presence of mind - the need of the hour

Our Sinhala movie icon, Gamini Fonseka, was once invited to a function in a rural village, in his hey day.

Anticipating the imminent arrival of the idol, the men, women, young, old, crippled and disabled, flocked in their hundreds to greet the great man.

The crowd had been clearly confined to an area, reasonably far away from the great man, where he was supposed to be in the podium.

At the forefront was the young village lasses who admired Gamini so much, followed by menfolks with an equal passion for the idol.

In these functions, this is the time some of these menfolks use the opportunity to lean against women from behind as if they are keener than the rest. So, this function, I was told, was no exception, in this regard.

Amidst all this hustle and bussle, a certain character cut a formidable figure, in the VIP area. It was the village thug - a well-built pot-bellied folk with a moustache of a door-handle.

Pacing up and down with his hands clasped at the back, frequently glancing at the crowd, he made a scene of himself: he created the impression among the crowd that he actually is known to the great movie star, that was Gamini; he was the first to be greeted by him.

Gamini arrived in time; the crowd went mad with usual 'shh', 'haa' and all the rest of it. The great man noticed the behaviour of the thug from the distance and didn't take much notice of him.

Being no stranger to folks of this calibre, after playing the role of villain and hero in so many movies, Gamini had some idea about this folk, who was in the buisness of showing off.

Gamini approached the adoring fans, completely ignored the thug, and walked past him, while pulling his sarong down, leaving very little to imagination.

The crowd felt silent as if struck by a bolt of thunder: women cupping their mouth, then closing thier eyes; men looking other side.

You and I expected the thug to run away in shame with head held down. No way; far from it.

The thug pulled the sarong up, tied it up again and walked back into the crowd as if nothing happened and quipped: ගාමිණී හැමෝගෙම සරම කඩන්නෙ නෑ! ( For our Tamil and Tamil-speaking folks, it nearly meant, Gamini does not pull everone's sarong down)
He then disappeared into the crowd and then distance. His well measured quip however, did take a bit of heat off the embarassment.

This is the crunch of the story, folks, the gift of presence of mind. The thug had it: telling the right thing, at the right time in the wrong circumstances.

Our diplomatic folks need it. Otherwise they are just time wasting bores.

When I refer to them as bores, you may ask whether it has a gender. Yes it does have and it is for men.

"What is the feminine equivalent?" you may ask. It is bore-holes!!

These people can't talk; speaking in English without making grammar mistakes is not the a big thing for a diplomat to display and be proud of; it may play well into the domestic audience too.

You have to win a foreign audience to make sure they actually listen. If the audience yawns, breaks wind, sweat profusely or roll their eyes, the message is not getting through. The diplomats need the presence of mind. Accumulation of paper qualification doesn't bring it in; nor does the IQ.

Qrious has a fairly hight IQ. Does it qualify Qrious to be a diplomat? No way. A war would break out among the frienliest nations, if I were to become a diplomat.Diplomacy is a completely different game.

Sanath, Murali become world class sportsmen, because they knew their gift.

I recommend the foreign ministry appoint a spokesman to our vital diplomatic missions for the most important job - talking to foreigners in a manner they get the message, not the boring monologues. He must have the gift of presnece of mind too. This combination will make miracles.

I am not someone who puts his hands up against political appointees, outside the diplomatic core, provided they are good at the main task. Dayan Jayatilake is a case in point. Be outspoken, come what may. Nothing much left to loose, folks.

A folk who speaks as a native in respective countrises is a step in the right direction.

We want our armed forces to move forward, score win after win, send the terrorists back to their maker prematurely, kick the backers of the outfit in the a***, whenever we can. We like to believe this as we hope for the best for the country.Karuna or this new CM has never stated that they are for a united country. My good friend who had heavily invested in SL having connections in EP wanted to buy some real estate at Dutch Bar in Bati and met his people there and was told firmly not to buy there and the mood became unfriendly. It’s easily for some to be in self denial, until you want to put your foot there.People must go and ask the stf guys on foot patrol and who are stationed there. The days these guys ask our Police and the security forces to move out then there will be a cause for concern.
We both like to invest either in Dutch bar or at Arugam bay but we have our own apprehensions for the moment untill we visit there next month. We have our own way to find out, but the recent attacks on Buthhala truly took us by surprise, indicating the infiltrations into these areas after Sampur and thoppigala operations. Usually Sinhala Modayas who are not very good at thinking accuse any non-Sinhala capable of thinking of being "cunning bastard." Such a Modaya would consider US Pres. George W Bush to be a "cunning bastard" if that Modaya had even fewer brain cells than Bush.

In this case, the Sinhala Modaya lacks the ability to comprehend the enormous risks Anandasangaree took in opposing the LTTE without having a goon squad to protect him (unlike Douglas or Pillayan). He has certainly risked his life on behalf of Sri Lanka far more than the average Modaya typing on the internet. Yet the Modaya somehow believes that there is a conspiracy involved and Sangaree is up to dirty tricks.

"he knows fuccking too well that NIGHT is the time tigers are active; especially those barbarians who bomb the morning rush hour crowd. if a suspect is arrested at night/evening, how can he be released ?"

The problem with the police going after Tamils indiscriminately is that it gives the impression that the police have no idea at all where the Tigers are (which seems to be the truth). Operation Strangers Night in December 2006 netted NO Tigers despite dragging thousands out of their homes just for being Tamil.

To put it in simple terms for Modayas here to understand, cordon-and-search is generally an ineffective tool to counter terrorism in an urban environment. The most effective means are a well-established intelligence network having strong links with the local community. To establish such links, the police will necessarily require the ability to speak Tamil (unfortunately disqualifying the hordes of Modayas we have).

The two best Tiger-busters we had in Colombo- Nilabdeen and Jeyaratnam- were treated like crap by the Sinhala leadership. Nilabdeen was seriously wounded in a gun battle and nobody visited him in the hospital. Jeyaratnam was captured by the LTTE after begging the govt. to get him out of the country.

"sorry for the mossard style thinking."

No need to apologize for being a Modaya. A Modaya needs to stand tall and announce his Modaya-ness to the outside non-Sinhala world. We need more Modayas to prove to the world that the Sinhalese are idiotic racists who will never reach out to moderate Tamils like Anandasangaree. Bruce Fein sends his regards.

  108. Dear lkdood,

"anybody who know tamil please tell me what this is"

My Tamil is a little rusty but I'll give it a go. I will provide translations into both intelligent Sinhala English and Modaya Sinhala English:

For Intelligent Sinhala: Leader of auxiliary military council (paramilitary) Karuna banished to Sri Lanka

For Modaya: Karuna makes secret pact with LTTE and Anandasangaree to fool kind and peaceful Sinhalese and to retake Eastern Province for Tamil Eelam. Further details at bottomline.lk

It's good that there are few who can really think here.

If you are not in a Sinhala modaya bandwagon in this blog, you will be cornered by many modayas here, for example, few weeks back, Kevin started to criticize the current government for some of their corruption, suddenly some folks started to stamp him as terrorist sympathizer. Kevin melted under pressure, now became another modaya in this blog.

  112. I think there's a very important thing to remember at this point in time.
    We shouldn't mix things up.
That is, we shouldn't mix the war on terror with any other war.
Is the MR govt. corrupt? Maybe. Maybe be not. The point is, it's irrelevant.
Is the MR govt. successful in war on terror? I believe so.

There's no 100% guaranteed formula for success. So, when someone is doing something successfully, don't mess with him. Unless of course you want to stop him being successful. So, if the govt. is corrupt, violates HR, kills journalists, sucks #$%^, etc. I don't care as long as it's successful in war on terror.

Once this war on terror is behind us, I am sure all the patriots will join, with same enthusiasm, the war on corruption, the war on blah blah.

  118. Guys,

    Battle for diplomacy

A lot of folks made the comments on the issue of my posting under The presence of mind.

I have a reason to be angry with these people so do hundreds of thousands of expatriates.

When you meet someone in an European capital, a stranger for instance, if the only thing that folk raises with you is the war or killings, then there is something seriously wrong with the role played by the people who claim to be representing us in these countries.

If the stranger in question hails from a cricket playing nation, he may ask about Murali or Sanath. We can hold our head high and talk about it. Unfortunately, all nations are not fond of cricket and for that reason they don't know about Murali or Sanath.

We have a world-class heritage: we have Sigiriya with a water distribution mechanism that is intriguing; we have Yodha Ala that takes water from one end to the other, against the pressure gradient, using the loss of kinetic energy to move up by turning it into potential energy, thanks to a unique steepnes that is maintained throughout the canal; we have a lush green countryside with exotic fauna and flora; we have a lovely beach around the country; we can move from a very cool climate to a very hot one in a matter hours - less than 5 - while witnessing a corresponding vegetation along the way.

Why don't we come across foreigners who don't hear about those things?

Something has gone wrong terribly somewhere.

In the continental Europe the impotency of our diplomats is very critical. E.g. Germany. In the Netherlands, the head of the mission is embroiled in a dispute with her housemaid for not paying her wages properly.

Thailand which is a Buddhist country became a haven for Tiger terrorism on our diplomats' watch. KP still lives and operates from there. Our diplomats failed even stirring up Buddhist sentiments there in the wake of attacks on Buddhist places of worship like Dalada Maligawa.

I have seen our diplomats on TV in Europe. For instance, I once saw a guy on the British TV, a few years ago. I collapsed on my knees! He was talking to the British audience, the country of the English, using an antiquiated form of language in the hope that people are glued to the TV to watch this unpleasant individual. It bored me to the core and I switched the channels in disgust.

Folks, that is why I raised the language issue. The art of communication is a gift; you can't teach it. These folks may have English degrees and even that of English literature, that qualified to be in the diplomatic core. Is that enough? No way. That is my point. They know they are not good at this form of articulation in foreign television studios and they avoid it whenever they can. That account for them looking petrified in front of TV camera, if they are forced to do by circumstances.

So, a spokesman, preferably who can talk like a native is the right choice. If he is witty and has a great sense of humour, he can become an instant attraction too.

I have seen diplomats of that kind representing their respective countries. They are not all white; nor are they all Europeans. They are Arabs, Indians, Pakistanis and even Iranians.

These gifted individuals have one thing in common; the audience feels like wathching them.

PS Some folks took a gentle swipe at me about my example of Dayan Jayatilake, on the assumption, that I didn't know what he stood for a decade or so ago. It is wrong. I am fully aware what he said and did. That does not stop me from admiring what he is doing now, because no one else is capable of doing that. He stirs up controversy and it is good. At least, we get some attention.

These folks may be after this illusive phenomenon called consistency both in politics and diplomacy. It exists only in the vocabulary of political scientists, not the real world. So, I conclude that consistency is just a futile struggle to revere the past.

  119. NoLtte=Peace said,

However, I am worried that spending too much time on this blog trying to entertain others would affect your own business commitments.

Thank you for the compliment and the care.

I only need less than 15 minutes to write a posting; for instance, the one on Presence of mind is written while having my breakfast, in the morning.

I never plan these things; when I am motivated the thoughts and ideas just flow and I just become a scribe. That is all. If I make a very big effort, I may not even produce what you all enjoy up to now.

I like to punctuate my work too with a bit of writing, for a change. So, it doesn't affect my professional committments. On the contrary, it stimulates that department.

    Thanks again.

  120. Noltte=Fandabidozi!!!,

Thanks for the link. I couldn't believe my eyes. What a laugh; my sides split matey. Reminds me of the cold war era where all discoveries were made by Soviet scientists, all scientific theories and scientific progress were attributed to only Soviets. Somehow only Soviets were clever or able to achieve these and the rest of the world was evil and stupid. Ask anyone who graduated from Lumumba in the 70s or 80s who discovered penicillin. Instead of simply saying “Sir Alexander Fleming in 1928”, they would say something like “I am glad you asked, Comrade Vladimir Nobokov of Leningrad in 1925, of course. By the way, the lazy Western capitalists stole the formula using spies (who we duly executed publicly in Red Square by hanging them by their whotsits) and claimed that they invented it; the lying toads. See how the capitalists are trying to deconstruct history. We are the true inventors. Death to United States and the west, death to capitalists. Long live Soviet Union!”

We all know how long the Soviet Union lived.

Now this Tamilnut is doing the same. Who is ever going to believe this utter nonsense except the LTTE serving diaspora who swallow anything the ‘Nut says hook line and sinker? Or self brain-washing idiots like the few we find in this blog? Goes to show the desperation of LTTE losers. They don’t even have any grass to clutch on to now, so they are trying to create a few blades; the losing idiots.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Dear Bhairav,

"If you are not in a Sinhala modaya bandwagon in this blog, you will be cornered by many modayas here,"

I had written a message to you regarding the might of Eelam Army but received no reply. It is only when I use the words "Sinhala" and "Modaya" in the same sentence that you respond. In that case there is something that you must know.

There are a bunch of Sinhala Modayas out there but the dumbest Sinhala does not hold a candle to the dumbest Sri Lankan Tamil. Let me explain with the following story.

Jaffna Tamils are the best there are out there on what they do. There is no beating a Jaffna man. Let us say a Jaffna person sits down next to a Sinhala mathematician. The Jaffna Tamil will tell himself, "I can be a better mathematician than this fellow," and he will indeed work hard to be the better mathematician.

Let us imagine the same Jaffna Vellala sitting down next to a Sinhala sprinter. The Jaffna man will tell himself, "This man thinks he can run?? I can run faster than this guy," and he will train through the day when he can outrun any Sinhala runner. The Jaffna Tamil is not simply talk but follows through because he is the BEST.

But put that exact same Jaffna fellow next to a Sinhala who was born mentally-retarded. The Jaffna Tamil will say, "This fellow was born with a mental disability, but I can ACHIEVE mental disability." This Jaffna man will find a way to be more brain-dead than the Sinhala retard because he must be the BEST.

There will never be a Sinhala as smart as the smartest Jaffna Tamil. There will never be a Sinhala as courageous as the bravest Jaffna Tamil (and there are many who come to mind). But there will never be a Sinhala as stupid as the most stupid Jaffna Tamil. What the Jaffna Tamil idiot lacks in quantity he makes up in quality.

History has shown that a number of Jaffna Tamils have worked hard to outdo the worst of the Sinhala Modayas. In fact one cannot address such a Tamil as "Modaya" because even a Modaya has certain limits of intellectual degeneration. For example no Sinhala will ever be dumb enough to think about bribing the US State Department while there is a war on terrorism. Even a Modaya such as myself understands these basics.

I have met fellow Sinhalas who could not outsmart a mule but I have never heard of a Sinhala person or organization who had managed to destroy the Sinhala race. The Tamils on the other hand have the Rt. Hon. Mr Veluppillai Prabakaran who has the honor of destroying the Sri Lankan Tamil race. If Bruce Fein's work is made easier by the Modayas out there then Mr Prabakaran is doing all the work for the Cyril Mathews and Champika Ranawakas out there.

  141. Virus-alert and others;

As we key-board warriors shoot at each other with verbal missiles, it is important to appreciate something and understand the intrinsic value of things we take for granted.
As long as the extremists among the tamils were allowed to vent their amudes talking of the need for a seperate nation, the verbal conflict provided an avenue for teh frustrations to ease and sense to return where each understood the true reality; we are one nation and cannot do well without the other's talent base.
Then came JRJ with his 13th amendment, which made the tamil extremists and mouth-pieces stick their mouths in their own asses. Maybe JR got a short laugh out of it. He even boasted that the only thing his presidium cannot do is 'turn a man into a woman and vice versa'. The fact that simple surgery and a few hormone pills today do what his evilly bred presidential monstrosity couldn't achive then, that's besides the point.
What JR did was closing the vent for the frustrations, which built up fast and exploded in violence. Though the minor details are irrelevant, the major lesson should never be lost; everyone has a right to an opinion and that includes those we don't like to hear or see.
Web sites and media cannot be shut down. Not because they cannot be done physically, but because the outcome is a price not worth paying for stiffling the message we don't like.
Even eelamists have a right to talk about it. Let them talk and it will remain talk. Muzzle them and we have war.
None of this means agreement to what's being said. It just means, let barking dogs bark.

  151. Guys,

The arrival of Karuna and the departure of commonsense

We are not short of ...mongers. We have warmongers in the north; fishmongers in the south; ironmongers in the west; and scandalmongers in the east. And let's brace ourselves for the next generation of mongers - gloommongers.

Karuna is going back to his roots - to rejoin the LTTE - they say and want us to believe it too - word for word, perhaps. Are they the very people who used to scare us about a massive attack on Jaffna penissula by the LTTE ? May be.

In order to make that holy transition, Karuna flew back to the country under the escort of two British police officers and then flew into Colombo by a state helicopter.

I wonder why these people stopped short of saying that the government was going to fly him into Vanni so that he can make contacts with his estranged ex-boss, the all powerful Prabha.

Some even go further: Karuna was to rejoin with Keerthi, the intelligent wing chap - an arch loyalist of Pottu Amman, someone Karuna hates so much - and then Jeyanthan, the man behind the Eastern resurggence.

Very dramatic indeed; ideal stuff for a Holywood blockbuster!

Whatever reasons Karuna had for leaving the outfit, his trip to Thailand was the watershed, during the last ceasefire period. It was his first trip overseas, unless he had been to Tamilnadu before. He saw the outside world; he realized if he were to stay with the brutes, his whole life was going to be wasted in the jungle; he did want a change. So, he made the bold move.

Now, he is back after a disastrous trip to the United Kingdom. He may have seen the developed world at least through the glass windows of his prison van. I am sure he may have seen how the world has progressed while he was engaged in primitive warfare in the jungle, motivated by a perverted doctrine.

In this context, if someone wants us to believe that Karuna is going back to jungle to fight a war for another 30 years, it is as useless as counting 'l's in illegal.

Karuna may be resentful for being forced to play second fiddle by circumstances. Let's hope time will heal those bruises in his soul.

I would say Karuna has been a very lucky chap. He was caught in the United Kingdom. The British are not pursuing an already wounded animal with vigour to put him behind bars for the rest of his life. They took into account the jail term he served for an immigration offence, a pretty serious one, and let him off the hook. Amnesty International was disappointed and so was HRW.

However, if he were caught in Germany, things would have been much worse. The laws in Germany against human right abuses are pretty tough. If a civilian makes a case against a potential war criminal, there is very little chance of him getting away with it. After being batterd by Nazi image, Germany had taken steps to clean up its image.

Even former US defence secretary Doanld Rumsfeld was reluctant to go to Germany at some point for a vital NATO meeting, while in office, for fear of being arrested and prosecuted, over his role in Iraq war. So, a poor chap like Karuna would have stood no chance, if he were caught there.

So, gloommongers want to have a field day, with the arrival of this folk. Let's hope Karuna Amman is not here in the island for that. He is capable of doing lots of better things, once his fury and frustration evaporates.

It is good for the Eastern Tamils, good for the country and healthy for Karuna as well.

    Dear Bhairav,

"If you are not in a Sinhala modaya bandwagon in this blog, you will be cornered by many modayas here," etc etc...

    GCE O/L 2007 result
    --Sinhala students results--
Anuradhapura Dist. ( Sinhalese historical Capital of SL)
polonnaruwa Dist, Kebitigollewa Dambulla,Dist. Trinco around that area, 35% 49% got through their O/L's and will be entitled to A/L's (rest of them will be... may be can go to army)

    Tamil Students.
In Vanni, Vavunia, Trinco Jaffna, Kilinochchi (LTTE controlled and GOSL controlled areas)65% to 70% got through in their respective areas(report as per DOE)

I didn't say this, palath palana emathi's in this particular districts getting RS 7bn per year to develop (magul natanna)their districts. but specially in anuradhapura and in polonnaruwa they don't spend money for education. (Okkoma Matiya Gahanawa - as usual) end of the day see the students of this areas/ districts qualifies to join SLDF

even in during this war tamils students education level is much higher.

I am not telling this against Sinhalese or anything. all these situ cos of in proper governing. I will blame the poor civilians for voting for thugs in their areas and making them EMATHI's (Ape emathi) Un erala giyadata Lamai Anathai.

    Who is Modayas?
“Education: That which discloses to the wise and disguises from the foolish their lack of understanding.”

Note: not that mean all sinhalese or all tamils fools. both parties has educated representing sri lanka even in NASA.

MR is the president cos "Bahuthara Chanda Balaya"

So that thing falls under "Bahuthara" for majorities.

I met Bernard Gunatilleke who returned to SL recently after a very successful performance in the US. The grapevine says the new appointee is connected party to the royal-ass family and unable to even communicate effectively at diplomatic levels, even though a good organizer to hold the overseas SL community together.

    Tropicalstorm,

They say blood is thicker than water. The new appointee is MR's nephew. He looks exactly like his uncle even has the same type of mustache. It is customary in the South Asian context to have family members in positions of power. I suppose having family members in important positions ensures that underlings will not conspire aginst the leader. MR runs the country with his brothers. Thankfully his brother responsible for defence is the most competent defence secreatry Sri Lanka has ever had. Alas, the professional diplomatic service no longer exists in Sri Lanka. This has hampered Sri Lanka's ability project its message in western countries. Once the war ends, I belive these institutions will need to be re-built to meet the needs of Sri Lanka.

  163. TN fishermen who have had a profitable business supplying the LTTE with supplies instead of engaging in their livelihood as fishermen are in for a shock. Since the capture of Silvaturai last year, the SL Army has been slowly going up the western coast to a point where the SLA will be able to block the TN supply run. I suppose the fisherman will now be compelled to return to their traditional livelihood of fishing.

I read a article about this Mannar front, it says if SLDF can capture the Vidudalaitivu and have to cross A32 MSR, from their onwards without any hard-core fight can move up to kilinochchi easy task. Also LTTE will withdraw from their even though its their stronghold. Also said that about the climate change during September / October will be a great challenge for SLDF, So SLDF have to cross A32 before or mid august another 1100 Sq Km.

Believe you me when i say that the SLankan diplomatic service has been infested mainly with rot (untill recently when the country started appointing people with good qualifications)whose main purpose was to educate their children at overseas universities. They did nothing(with the exception of a few).absolutely nothing!!.they thought that been appointed to the DPL service was to drive a car and attend functions alone while getting the govt to pay for all expenses.the Hon pres appointing a member of his family has got good points also.Whatever the man's standard of english i think of him as the voicebox of the Hon president.Speaking about these rotters who did nothing for the country i know quite a few of them, have attended their functions, listened to the useless crap they speak and believe me in these conversations they didn't speak about anything other than what their kids are doing/which universities they were attending. They got really worried when Hon MR became president because believe you that is the only time he got these guys to work.Since MR think of the people/abilities/quals who have been appointed to the DPL.

  175. Guys,

    Fatal Attraction

The Wimbledon Tenis championships, which is one of the four great Grand Slam, is in full swing, in South West of London, in England.

Men, women, young, old, babies, new-born all queue up early in the morning to cheer up their favourite star.

I have been there once. But now I watch it on TV. I noticed particularly the interest of men in watching the play of women. Most of these menfolks do a Karunanidhi - they wear dark glasses calling them sunglasses. I wore a pair too.

I have never seen men's interest in any woman sport in my life and at first hand. Women play hocky, netball, cricket, and even foot ball. But men's interst in these sports is very disappointing, but not in Tennis. The men are just glued to these women players, when they are in motion.

These women players are energetic, sexy, smart and menacingly attractive. So, the attraction of menfolks to watch the game is not surprising. Wimbledon is played in summer and the need of dark glasses can be justified as it is something to keep ultraviolet at bay, too.

However, I noticed something that a pair of sunglasses can never hide from prying eyes: the rise of the excitement of the menfolks in direct proportion to the elevation of the skirts worn by these hormone-fuelled women players. Folks, believe me it transcends age: young, old, teenagers are on the same wavelengt, as it happens.

So, the riddle of why men go to Wimbledon, while taking a few days off their important work, is solved beyond doubt.

Is this the only place men are attracted to women in large numbers? Are their any battlefield equivalents? The good news, folks, is, there are.

Just look northwards from where you are; that is the proof. Tamil Tiger warriors.

Women cadre of this organization are icons of simplicity. They love to stay clean and fresh against the sweltering heat that is endemic in the battlefield. They don't carry woman costume for bathing. They just go to the nearest tank, say Giant Tank, asking their male equivalent to guard against the enemy. They just take off their clothes and take a few dips, come out, scrub the vital parts, go back again and the sequence continues, for a while.

This is where the trouble starts for the movement: the men, instead of doing the watch duty, slowly creep into bushes and then do the Wimbledon in the name of liberation.

According to my man, who has an extra pair of ears, that is placed securely in Vanni, this is true and the army loves it.

I think it must be encouraged too by dropping some hormone tablets near the bunkers.

The army snipers will not hesitate to make sure it is a fatal attraction.

  176. Yesterday I watched the "Law & Order"'s assassin episode show on one of US national TV stations.

The story was like this an American educated female political figure who wasn't mentioned as Tamil or Sinhalese, undergoes house arrest in SL for 2 years before returning to US. In US, she becomes key speaker for many events in University level, and key mandra words in her speech were " We need Tamil homeland, without Tamil separate homeland, our children will suffer forever"

some of the words used in this episode:

    1.Sri Lankan Hard
    liners
    2.Tamil tiger terrorists.

If you guys missed the show or wanted to see how Sri Lankan conflict misinformed in these American TV networks, just google up,you will find some videos.

The show is " Law & Order and the episode name is "Assassin".

  177. Grious;

After killing 600 un-armed police officers in cold blood, Karuna still walks and is even defended in these forums.

Do we still claim to have self-respect?

Irrespective of (now diminished) military asset value, Karuna deserves judicial punishment for a long list of attrocities that make us accomplices by association. To let him walk free is to indicate to over 600 silently suffering Sri Lankan families that the slaughter of their son/husband/friend was not important. Why should we prosecute lesser criminals then? Let anarchy rule.

What others say have nothing to do with how we need to view ourselves. If we do not respect ourselves, others never will. In Sri Lanka's case, we will show to the world that we are a nation without self-respect and deserving to be treated with disdain.

Such a nation cannot expect its expatriate population to be willingly associated with its un-dignified behavior. For that would lower us too to the same level, that of a street-corner prostitute.

Mate, if we open up a can of worms, all we get is stinking. It will not just end with Karuna, according to my information.

Neither the British nor the Tigers pursue him vigorously enough knowing very well that in a any court of justice, Karuna would be allowed to air his voice in the name of defence.

    Heard the saying?

Push someone against a wall and he has very little to lose.

So, stirring up past is not always the best thing to do. However, wielding some power over him using the ugly chapters in history can halt someone in tracks. I heard some news about it, recently.

  179. [So, stirring up past is not always the best thing to do. However, wielding some power over him using the ugly chapters in history can halt someone in tracks. I heard some news about it, recently. ]

All the criminals should be prosecuted regardless of where they stand in the society. Someone who was involved in the mass killing and sexual harassments should be taken off the street-period.

Even if you escape from the civil verdict, you can not escape from the God's verdict which will be ten times severe than what you did.

    ReplyDelete
  180. Grious;

That is exactly what self-respect is all about. If today we have people in power who have been accomplices in the attrocities committed by this villain, then we as a nation do lack balls to put them also where they belong.

Don't you see that this whole screw-up has common beginnings, none of which has been addressed?

The concept-war has been decisively won, the military efforts are yielding results, but teh root causes that make each Sri Lankan's life a hell hole each day, continue. It is the high degree of compromised in our legal enforcement systems that lead to this mess and that continues. We'll never raise our heads at anytime if this same process continues.

    ReplyDelete
  181. One of the main reasons the tamils felt the need for a seperate state was the belief that the Sinhalese would always remain as we do now; corrupt, irresponsible, motivated only by self-aggrandizement and willing to subvert the legal establishment to be able to do so with impunity. Add 'desire to create family dynasties' when it is the SLFP in power each time.

Even as we physically win against those who disagree with us, we continue to lose the moral conflict which makes us civilized in the eyes of our own people. Nothing is worth such a price, least of all a unified nation with one flag, currency, soveriegnty and no self-respect.

It is like they are desperately trying to prove my point!

Take a look at what grious had written about "presence of mind." I think Asithri and Moshe Dyan would make wonderful diplomats. Just imagine them speaking to Indian & Western counterparts in that way. I can assure you that it would not be construed as "boring monologue."

Actually you will find the greatest concentration of Modayas outside of Sri Lanka, living in Western countries where like Moshe Dyan and Asithri they try to look tough by writing cute messages.

How can you explain how despite higher educational achievements by Jaffna Tamils, there are many of them who are destroying their own people by supporting the LTTE??? How is it that these Tamils who place a premium on education are calling an 8th grade dropout National Leader??

  186. SriLankan,

What you say about the DPL service and its people is very true my friend. Some of the other Govt personnel who are seconded to diplomatic service (the Department of Commerce sends a person as the Trade Officer)have proven to be of little use too. At least on the positive side, and there is very little to see on the positive side, some of the defence attaches that have been posted in foreign countries have proven to be very competent people. It seems the SLA picked some good people to represent their interests overseas. Some of the arms purchase agreements and training agreements have come about because of their good work. One suggestion that has been made about the DPL service is to bring some competent outsiders. If the government can ask someone like Harry Jayawardena to run Air Lanka, then surely it can find people of his caliber to run some of the most important diplomatic posts.

Yes I agree that Moshe Dyan and Asithri could not digest the fact that there are some Jaffna Tamils out there who are even more brainless than they are. See how pitifully they tried to disprove me by using terms such as "son-of-whore" and "motherfcuker" as if by describing their personal relationships with their ammies, they could outdo certain Jaffna Tamils in idiocy.

You and I both know that the Sinhalese will never be so stupid as to celebrate their own destruction the way some of the diaspora Tamils do. It takes a bit more than some 4-letter words learned from upbringing to be an Eelam-style dimwit.

Don’t you know about a thug who killed 999 innocent people to collect fingers and still lived to became a most venerated sage .. what is essential is that he realises his mistakes. As Mahathma said Eye for Eye would make all of us blind.

No individual is 100% responsible for his own acts, since it is the society who brought him up. That why the death penalty is abolished in many countries.

We must study more keenly the Anathma concept which says anything including life is a process dependent on innumerable other processes. That realisation must lead to a deep mutual respect among men.

Also we must not forget that UNP is made up of business people where the money nonchalantly overrides the moral.

Anathmic SLFP could give a Mahathmic stature to our society.
