An explosion has taken place in Piliyandala bus stand a short while ago. The blast has occurred inside a Kahapola-Piliyandala bus which was about to depart from the bus stand. It is reported that the bus was full of passengers when the bomb went off.
According to latest information 16 civillians have been killed and another 40 more have been injured.
The bus bombing bears all hallmarks of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
hope there aren't many casualties.

ReplyDeleteTamilnet after reporting the incident, has listed under 'related news' an article '3 civilians wounded in DPU Claymore attack on MPCS lorry'. Bloody @$$holes are justifying it as usual, while indirectly accepting that LTTE did it.

ReplyDelete"As for the crowds that get on these buses..why dont people just get on the roof (free seats) and wave flags as well..because they cant wait for the next bus if one is packed?.This pathetic sickening attitude will kill us all one day.."
ReplyDeleteYes this is a problem. But I guess buses are not enough to provide adequate transport to everyone. But then people also are impatient to wait for the next bus and try to cling on to any part of the bus as it drives past. Anyway, the result is about 150 passengers packed in a bus made for 60.
59 wounded admitted to hospital and also 12 dead according to 8'o clock news. It seems because of the heavy rains, buses were packed more than usual. Also it was usually the time buses are full, after offices close.
ReplyDeleteUsually bombs go off when LTTE get whacked in Wanni..

Guys,
ReplyDeleteYou have been warned about the presence of a flight of vultures, in my previous posts.
They smelt death faster than you and I did; the ability is in their genes.
Vultures practise cannabilism too; that is why the death of their own does not deter them from performing these macabre acts.
The boundless joy enjoyed by Puli, Peter, Shyam and Boss at the sight of blood has been accounted for.

ReplyDeleteIn the Muhamalai battle, didn't the army commander/AF commander know about this attack before? Was such a massive assault carried out only by the jaffna commanders/brigade commanders without informing them? If not, why didn't SLAF respond in time....
ReplyDelete"Vultures practise cannabilism too; that is why the death of their own does not deter them from performing these macabre acts."
That's because they think their people don't die.... LTTE cadres never die, only SLA soldiers die in battle according to them.
i wonder who these 'military sources'
ReplyDeleteare ???
60 injured at kalubowila Hos.
ReplyDelete20 serious injuries
Here is what I think should consider when advancing on Jaffna front...Sorry for my laymen theory..
ReplyDeleteHow about advancing along the cost line leaving the middle of the narrow strech empty but defending at the rear...
Imagine the latin letter "U" or even "V" .
I can't see how that is going to be effective..Probably we need SLN support on the cost line.
Then we need SLAF air support to figure out the LTTE artillery/Mortar positions..If SLAF distoryed these LTTE assets then SLA is in a better position to take control of the LTTE FDL.
Anyone wants to comment..?
However,
no offensives from North until we hit the LTTE guns first..
That is a must...
Carpet bombing in Muhamalai is the way to go.

Guys,
ReplyDeleteChamal said the following:
"That's because they think their people don't die.... LTTE cadres never die, only SLA soldiers die in battle according to them."
Judging by this admission, I can only visualize the fate of injured female cadres among male cadres in the same plight, as long as their samll leg remains intact; it is still a step more on the civilized side than that of macabre, in the world of Tigers.
I never thought this brand of patriotism has a gaping hole in it, even if it is a concept of a bunch of brutes.

ReplyDeleteThis is from Dailynews
[. "We got information that between 800 to 1000 LTTE cadres have gathered at the second FDL in Muhamalai preparing for a massive attack. They tried to break through the FDL in Muhamalai by attacking the troops. ]
This is from SF@LNP
[SLA and SLAF have not coordinated before the debacle a few days ago...the initial air assault before the ground offensive did not take place as the op was started prematurely...this is a point of the investigation done by the cds... ]
It is obvious SLA initiated the thrust and it wasn't planned long time ago..Amasing 1000 LTTE caders on FDL' is a LTTE ploy to mislead the SLA to think that an attack imminent and forcing SLA to commit mistakes with a sudden offensive on LTTE.
Both news items confirms that the thrust was not pre planned..
However,
It was costly but not as bad as the Oct. 2006 debacle.
SF@LNP does not want to blame Brigadier Sooriyabandara for the whole thing..May be he was part of the decision making process, like any high ranking officer but not the only link.
I would say , he is the weakest link in SLA in Jaffna. He should be transfer out from Jaffna without delay to be engage in civil duties.
Lately I could not contribute to the blog as frequently as it used to be..But I read most of it.
Keep up the good work defencenet team.

ReplyDeletei guess your speculation is quite true... it's a bit of controversy why they want to launch simultanious attcks in colombo..
I see few reasons
* Blood thirst terrorists killing civillians to quench their thirst
* To bring attention to the colombo by launching attcks to make colombo unsafe and bring gruond troops to colombo..
* Give more pressure to military forces..
* Divert attention from madu church defeat
* Or may be as a revenge latest possible reason is the death of a ltte majour figure from recent airstrike
In other violence, 17 rebels and four soldiers were killed in battles in the northern war zone Thursday, and air force jets hit a rebel camp Friday morning, the military said Friday.
ReplyDeleteSri Lankan forces also took control of a revered Roman Catholic church that religious groups had feared was in danger of being damaged by the raging civil war, the military said.
Dear SLDF... Re-double your determination and fight the LTTE pigs to the finish...This bombing is another sign that... LTTE is pathetically failing to survive.

Finally... Patriotic Sri Lankans are very much aware that there's NO WAY YOU WILL ALLOW the terrorists to sleep...
defencenet,
ReplyDeleteBased on the news articles, the day SLA engadged in Muhumalei battle, the walioya and mannar fronts have had relatively easy job. Walioya front has moved forward (800m) as well as killed some terrorists, and mannar troops also had some success including the capture of Madu.
I think LTTE drew several hundreds of its members and perhaps other resorces towards north, making remaining members more vunerable for SLA attack. This indicates one thing, although SLA operates in multiple fronts they don't launch massive attacks simulteneously in multiple fronts. If they can do that, I think LTTE will have a real trouble. It sure looks difficult and risky for SLA as well but not as much as for LTTE.

Exactly.

Do you hear that? We just cannot take responsibility for what is happening in our homeland...
I making sense, right?
I offer my sincere condolences to my fellow Lankans who are bereaved in the aftermath of the Piliyandala bomb.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, we have to be extremely vigilant these days. Soon we will catch someone red handed planting a bomb. Woe betides that person….it would be better for that person for not to have been born.
Even after this level of atrocity, the BBC (Biased Broadcasting Corporation) is blatantly refusing to call a spade a spade. They are pussyfooting around the LTTE, proscribed by their own country, other countries of the UN and many world superpowers as “Terrorists”. Why is the BBC stubbornly refusing to use the word “terrorists” to describe the LTTE is beyond comprehension…unless of course our suspicions of LTTE infiltrations within the biased corporation are indeed true.
Personally I have no doubt about some in the BBC (TV and World Service Radio) who are on the LTTE payroll. I have strong evidence which I will put out at the right time. Watch this space…

Guys,
ReplyDeleteWe must stay focussed with steely determination and calm during this difficult week.
Vultures, led by Peter & Co are hovering over us profusely; they are feasting today; but their flutter will not drown our resolve.
The Sinner-in-White-Robe, Mr Rayappu makes some noises to show the world that he is the one who calls shot.
The army must de-robe this rascal and kick him in the a*** until he owns up to all he did, exploiting his priesthood.
In the western world, the priests do not enjoy the what their counterpart do in the third world.
The notion that they are beyond criticism is damaging indeed. The game, Mr Rayappu has been playing is a classic case of exploitation of respect that we show them in abundance.

Oh.. Good observation.
Now i am curious too.
Guys,
ReplyDeleteIt was a bit of a gloomy week for all of us; the following article sheds some light on what actually took place in Muhamalai and Nagarakovil axis.
The Tigers have not got away unscathed; they have paid a very heavy price too.
The article is here.
I apologize for our patriotic Tamil folks for providing them with an equivalent link.
The circumstances behind Piliyandala bomb and the attempted bomb attack in Pettah are a bit clearer now:
either the Tigers lost a significant brute from an air attack or they suffered a huge loss in terms of senior cadres at the Muhamalai battle.
When their territory of influence shrinks by the day, they cannot keep secrets from us for very long any more.
This attack on civilians show the desperation of the LTTE.
ReplyDeleteThanks to the CFA shitt of the faggots, many terrs came to the south FREELY. Even in 2008 many would have come with explosives secetly. BUT they don't just blast bombs at the first instance they get. They wait for instructions for the most appropriate moment.
This shows the LTTE would have suffered HUGE casualties recently.
We don't know how many died in repeated SLAF air sorites may be they are in the hundreds.
the only way to stop terrorism in the south is to use proven methods including abductions, interrogation and similar means.
these means are given up whenever HR jokers shout. the crackdown that started after a series of attacks around the independance day lasted only until mid march. then the MoD resorted to STUPID tactics like posters asking suicide bombers to surrender for 10,000,000 rupees. For them the lives of their relatives in LTTE areas are more imprtant than 10,000,000 rupees!!
another blunder is the govt. giving up successful series of LRRP/SLAF attacks whenever LTTE attacks civilians. this only encourages them. If each LTTE attack is retaliated the israeli style, they will think twice before attacking.
the ONLY POVEN means of stopping terror attacks in govt. controlled areas is to use the white vans, etc. Many fancy theories can be formulated, but there is no time to experiment with peoples lives. WE MUST GET BACK TO PROVEN SUCCESSFUL STRATEGIES
when the war gets nastier (it is getting there) terror MFs will try more attacks on civilians as it cannot take on the army.
Guys,
ReplyDeleteFollowing is the "daily Mirror" defence column titled "Muhamalai debacle: Is history repeating itself?"
Yes, loosing the valuable lives of more than hundred brave soldiers is truly a debacle. (We will do whatever we can for the well being of their families).
But if one considers the contents of the column he will start doubting the story of "LTTE winning the battle(many accepted without learning all the facts)" . Judge yourselves.
DM Defence Column.
Hemantha,
ReplyDeleteThanks for Objective article by sunil Jayasiri. This could have been much worse..we may have had a 1000 dead easily..considering 3 operations 55div,53div and rescue team..we got off lightly. Now attacking these pricks from welioya and mannar north in buses on the way to the northern front was a nice move.It was a great idea to make them maveers sooner than later...which means that there are less terras in welioya and mannar north.Shame the Aforce was not called in earler.probably due to the time..0500..As i suspected much more LTTE cadres have died than stated.Hope it gives us a kill ratio of 2:1.The LTTE placing injured LTTE cadres in muhamalai FDL is excellent news!!.What we need are a few more bombing runs by the AForce on LTTE field marshall gathering points.
Hemantha,
ReplyDeleteEven if this battle was unsuccessful..it also served another purpose other than delaying an attack on jaffna. It forced the LTTE to congregate some of their cadres who were in hiding in welioya and mannar north which gave the army some shooting practise..because flushing these guys out would have taken months.
Sri lankan,
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, man.
"This could have been much worse.. we may have had a 1000 dead easily..considering 3 operations 55div,53div and rescue team..we got off lightly"
I don't think so. LTTE did their best. I wish we were more successful. In order to finish the war we have to defeat the terrorists at this front. We will have more casualties initially. Breaking the one's own hair and hammering the chest for that is not so intelligent(Specially without knowing all the facts)(No disrespect meant for you, my friend). Screw the politicians in the south. We have to break this front.
Please read about the "Normandy Invasion" especially the casualty figures. Generals have to make hard decisions some times knowing the possibility of many own casualties.
DN or DW might want to enlighten me on this:
ReplyDeleteIf the SLA was aware of an impending Tiger attack, wouldn't it have been wiser to go in to an ultra defensive mode and train all available guns at them wait for the attack. Given well-entrenched defenders generally have an advantage; we could have decimated the Tigers when the real attack came. Afterwards we could have called in the Air Force to attack the fleeing Tigers and their positions (i.e. if the Army is cautious about sharing intelligence with other arms of the tri forces) and pursued the Tigers without too much trouble. This whole story about the preemptive strike doesn't sound right to me. May be someone could explain why this was the better strategy.
The other puzzling aspect is, why wasn't the Air Force called in as soon as the fighting started and the Army decided to move southward. It appears as if the call went in much later. Is the SLA not willing to share the glory with the others? Are personal differences and egos beginning to hinder our fight against terrorism? Hopefully the government can provide the necessary and correct leadership in these important matters.
Finally, I have noticed that there is a tendency to label as traitors those who point out deficiencies in the strategies adopted by the government and the armed forces. While we should acknowledge whole-heartedly the positive contributions and sacrifices made by all Sri Lankans in this fight against terrorism, we should not let people escape scot-free for sheer incompetence.
SLA doesn't allow the media to visit the wounded soldiers in the hospitals... they may be worry about for the leak of true casualty figures
ReplyDeleteFew days back a person called Beria (may be David blacker) was complaining that we were being unprofessional. One reason, we were calling names for terrorists. Eg. Carcass maggots. It made me wonder. Why are we doing that? The answer is simple. We don’t respect them. Actually we hate them. This is why we hate them.
ReplyDeleteKahapola is a remote area in the neighborhood of Bolgoda Lake. Even though it is not that far from Colombo facilities are no better than in a remote village. Especially the transportation. In the Kahapola route up to Madapatha bus service is better. But beyond that point people has to mostly depend on CTB for their day today transportations. Sometimes people have to wait more than an hour to take a bus. Especially when a one bus is out of order. (Earlier, somebody was complaining “why people do get in to a packed bus without waiting for the next one”. Very insensitive comment. The next bus may come after one and half hours.)
The backbone of the economy is the earnings of the people working in the surrounding cities including Colombo. They have to wake up early. Otherwise they would miss the early bus and be late for the work. Because of the transport time they leave early and come home late. By Friday evening, after five days of hard work they are tired looking men and women. After Fridays work they take one bus to Piliyandala. Then they go to the market and buy some vegetables for next few days and some fruit or sweet for their kids. After this ritual they have to wait in a queue for the last part of their voyage. Even though very tired, being cheered up due to the sense of coming weekend they exchange pleasantries with many other known faces while waiting for the bus. 150 persons for a bus is a norm at this time. Many have to keep standing packed between the seats. People who are seated help those who do not have that privilege by taking their parcels and keeping them on their laps. Some parcels are placed under the seats.
These are the innocent men and women the terrorists intentionally targeted to kill with the full consent of their leaders. This is the reason why I hate them so much. There won’t be any civility between the terrorists (or terra sympathizers) and myself.
Qrious,

And do we gain anything useful in having their bullshit posted on this site? (As you correctly pointed out NO!)
I have two suggestions.
1. These LTTE maggots and their DIASPORA are trying to project a 'HOLOCAUST' scenario from the so-called 'BLACK JULY 1983' by creating 'BLACK JULY REMEMBRANCE DAY'. These are all part of their massive propaganda work to create sympathy in the IC mind by associating the SINHALESE with GENOCIDE, ETHNIC CLEANSING, CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY etc. Realizing the soon to be death struggle of the LTTE, the ELAM wheels are turning overtime to achieve ELAM. by other means using the IC If I am not mistaken, these vultures threw little babies up in the air and spiked them on sword tips in front of their mothers, and as Asthiri says, smashed little babies heads against tree trunks, cut open bellies of pregnant mothers to scoop out the unborn babies, massacred so many people, including clergy at places of worship etc. And in addition to all their atrocities, today they massacred some more innocent poor pheasants. These are the real terrorist acts and crimes that humanity should never forget. We should collect all their vile crimes and prepare a running documentary to keep informing the unknown, and reminding those that have forgotten so that these maggots cannot continue their so called 'FIGHT AGAINST THE INJUSTICE FROM THE MAJORITY SINHALESE' after the death of the LTTE, hopefully in the very near future. You already see the wheels turning in the LTTE Diaspora about ‘ELAM’ after the FAT PIG and his COHORTS are barbecued by the SRI LANKAN FORCES and we have to be ready with our counter measures to kill their sinister plans. We should organize ourselves together instead of trying to go at it alone to counter their evil plans.
2. I think that people like me who live outside Sri Lanka (those in Sri Lanka are already under severe difficulties due to rising cost of living) should organize a fund to buy our forces things like night vision equipment, surveillance drones or anything else that we can afford to help our forces fight these terror maggots much more effectively. I suggest that we open up a fund at DefencetNet where we have visibility. We can even use these funds to counter the vast misinformation the LTTE propaganda machine is cranking out. If the tiger maggots washing dishes can KEEP A FEROCIOUS WAR GOING, then surely we should be able to do better than that and help END THE WAR ONCE AND FOR ALL by supporting our forces with the help that they need.

What ever said about the nothern operation, one thing is very clear.
ReplyDeleteLTTE is very week now. They have brought men and material from all the fronts and fully concentrated attack on the nagarkovil, narrowest land strip.
Despite the casuality figures, if ARMY march forward, when the SLAF was there, we could have achieved more gain.
One weekness is SLDF doent much rely on deceptive technics to confuse the enamy.
When the same batle was going on, if SLDF was pretending that, they were trying to broke though behind the enamy line, from sea landing, Army in nagarkovil would have got good opertunity to incease the kill ratio.
One tinhg is very clear, LTTE is very week now. But they will try to concentrate their full force to small areas to get morale boosters for them and their fund raisers.

ReplyDeleteupul,
ReplyDeleteLTTE supporters don't support killing of civilians and fully condemn such acts. Who would benefit from an attack on sinhala civillians ?
Definitely the Rajapakse government no body else.
Oh yeah, don't forget the central bank bombing, Dehiwala train bombings, Palliyagodella massacre, Kallarawa massacre, Kebithigollewa massacre, Gonagala massacre, Kattankudi mosque massacre, Aranthalawa Massacre, Kent and Dollar Farm massacres. The were all done by rajapakse and co.
Who do you think your kidding, upul?
i strongly feel that, LTTE will mount a major attack on madu charch area very soon.
ReplyDeletewhy ??? do not ask me :-)
That seems to sum up sri lanka' real problem.
ReplyDeleteFirst, like Ranil, they over-estimate the enemy and sue for peace at any cost. Then like the always losing brigadier, they completly under-estimate and lose lives.
Somewhere in between in the correct estimate, which they don't seem to get right.
Perhaps the army should hire a few good accountants to help.
There should be a change to internal procedures in ARMY.
ReplyDeleteThere should be a procedure to call Air support by Field commanders directly from SLAF.
Efficiency can be maximuze by eliminateing unnecessary delays. Then filed commanders feel grate power on ther hand to crush the enamy.
The Island_editorial.
ReplyDeleteDefencenet/Guys,
ReplyDeleteAren't we using the FN Minimi any more? "SL was the first country in the world to adopt the Minimi as a squad support weapon. Supplied directly from Belgium by FN Herstal."
But I haven't seen it anywhere with our soldiers. All are using the PK or RPD (T-56). Have we discontinued its use? If so, why? Even the US army is using the Minimi (as M249) as its squad support weapon..... or is the PK better?
andare,
ReplyDeleteNo. better co-ordination between the SLA and SLAF CANNOT improve the situation.
Better co-ordination helps when we know what to expect.
the procedure the SLAF follows is long.
First targets are identified (through air and ground intelligence). Then targets are selected and approved. Then pilots are given the co-ordinates, etc. of the targets. Then pilots take-off, attack and return.
This takes a VERY LONG TIME.
This is OK for static targets ONLY. In the battlefront, LTTE arti. positions are NOT static. They KNOW VERY WELL SLAF is after them and change their above ground positions. However, during a battle they CANNOT do this.
SLAF jets (and gunships) NEVER take-off without knowing their targets. It has its good and bad.
What should be done is to EMPOWER the pilots to IDENTIFY (jets and gunships are equipped with gadgets to do so), DECIDE and ATTACK targets on their own. OR fly a manned reconnences aircraft (beechcraft HISAR), process data then and there and feed to a number of jets hovering in the sky WAITING for a kill.
These jets and gunships are developed to function independantly and are equipped for that. BUT if SLAF to change into a more PROACTIVE force as mentioned above, many things have to change from the internal structure, powerbases of top officials (who are presently in the decision making role), the ability of pilots to acquire targets with lesser amount of data, the pilots to select the suitable misslie/bombs, etc.
i think we MUST change the SLAF to take up this proactive role. A higher error rate must be tolerated at the start.
The best way for getting effective CAS is the army having it's own attack helicopters. But of course, this will not happen for a long time to come, because in SL, we have the idea that only the Air Force should fly and Army and Navy should not have their own air wings. If not for this jackass idea, all our forces would be able to inflict more damages on the LTTE, both in the ground and sea. Air Force's job should be to attack strategic targets, and Navy and Army should be able to provide CAS for their own battles unless it is a major firefight and the Air Force's superior air power is needed.
ReplyDeleteGuys, its true that we lost lot of soldiers, wounded a lot too, but so did them. In terms of recruiting, regrouping, looking after the wounded we are in a much better position than the LTTE. They will have a hell of a time treating the wounded and finding new cadres. We would have lost about a hundred soldiers in a month anyway by sniper fire or APMS. And we learned a lesson too. So lets forget it. It wasn't too bad.
ReplyDeleteLTTE's defence solely depends on their artllery, thanks to ponsi Ranil. I have repeatedly said its time we do something even do or die style. This status quo has to be broken. The longer we wait they regroup, retrain and more than that we running out of time and money, patience. The clock is ticking.Dont forget there is a massive political and economic time bomb ticking in the south.
A good enough shake will let it go. Can you imagine what would happen then? We will be doomed.
It is time we break out of our all defences go for the kill. They have no where to run.
chamal,
ReplyDeletein the present set-up we have to rely on the SLAF for all air capabilities.
Hemantha,
ReplyDeleteThanks.Yes no doubt the LTTE did their best. However on the battlefront we have not been totally foolish either. These LTTE buffoons wanted to encircle some units like 2006 and brutally kill them while some malathis was performing barathanatyum. But thankfully due to the intervention of the rescue squad they could not do that.Their mistake was exposing their reserves with the hope of a 2006 repeat.I hope the airforce had a field day.Full credit to our forces who fought incredibly bravely.considering the amount of artillary fire they were under and the geography of the land its a miracle we did not have many more casualties due to the intervention of the SLAF.I dont think we should break through.Eventually it will happen anyway. We need to create conditions so that they will be compelled to attack muhamalai FDL and be ready for them.
Sinahale,
ReplyDeleteWell said mate,
"I suggest that we open up a fund at DefencetNet where we have visibility. We can even use these funds to counter the vast misinformation the LTTE propaganda machine is cranking out."
An excellant idea
Guys, the damage done by VP MF to tamils for last 35 years is irraversible. Now in SL the second largest minority is Muslims. Slowly but surely Muslims have been taking up superior position that Tamils enjoyed 20 years back. It is quite evident specially in Batti, Trinco and Amapara districts. In terms of every aspect Muslims are overtaking tamils.
The MF supporting VP & living in UK, Norway, Germeny and US etc are day dreaming for an Eelam.
It is more tangible if you guys could fight for an Eelam in the West as an Eelam here is becoming a distanced dream day by day with all conditions taken into consideration.
motta,
ReplyDelete"The longer we wait they regroup, retrain and more than that we running out of time and money, patience. The clock is ticking.Dont forget there is a massive political and economic time bomb ticking in the south."
exactly.
but this got to be done by killing the max tha land grabbing.
MOshe,
ReplyDeletePartly I agree with you. But SLAF has that capability to identify target on the fly and attack it.
Best example is, last muhamale battle, SLAF was called lately, but One pilot was able to identify Two Arti locations in Soranpattu and attacked instantly.
We have the capabilities, but there are management weakness. There should be a proper assesment process to overcome weaknesses.
very true moshy.
ReplyDeleteI also dont think air force would have made much of a difference in Muhamali battle.
Chamal, regarding flying Army dont forget we Sri Lanka. We dont have enough planes even for the air force. We are struggling to buy enoug body armour and even T56 ammunutions.
SF, DPU soldiers says they will be much more efficent if they have night vision and proper communucation equipments. At the moment they use hand signals and shouitng to communucate with members during operations.
We just need the bloody LTTE big guns stopped. Its a piece of cake then.
Pina,
ReplyDeleteThere is no chance in hell these fellows are getting an eelam overseas. But then you never know as one buffoon said many years ago "wherever there is a thaamil there is thaamil EELAM".
Pina,
ReplyDelete"Guys, the damage done by VP MF to tamils for last 35 years is irraversible".Its OK.Vp is their saviour.
Andare,
ReplyDelete"Best example is, last muhamale battle, SLAF was called lately, but One pilot was able to identify Two Arti locations in Soranpattu and attacked instantly."
The situation is different. They were sent for CAS and the order would be to "attack enemy positions threatening our troops, save our people". That is, a search and destroy mission. Naturally they select the best targets and attack in a situation like this.
But when on a conventional bombing run, the pilots can't divert from their mission objective and attack a target they spot (Even if that target may be more important than the assigned target). They would have to wait for clearance from their commanders before diverting from the original mission plan & attacking, and by that time the target can be safe.
If we want to carry out that kind of attacks, Air Force should carry out patrols. This way they can spot and engage targets, but doing this while on a conventional bombing run is unlikely.
mottapala,
ReplyDelete"regarding flying Army dont forget we Sri Lanka. We dont have enough planes even for the air force."
This is true (and it doesn't help that we have to spend billions on the 225 MP's, which could otherwise have been used to purchase something more useful), but even with the existing aircraft the army can use them to better effect than the air force then they should be with the army. If at least some of the MI-24's were with the army, I think they'll be of more use than they are now. What is happening now is the Air Force MI-24's carry out normal attacks on enemy FDL's, mostly not during battles. During a battle, by the time all the formal procedures are done to ask for CAS, the battle would probably be over. But if the army could deploy them during a battle, more targets will be in the open rather than inside defensive positions (if they are attacking), so the results will be higher.
I know this is not going to happen, but just an idea.

ReplyDeleteLTTE firing Arti on Manalaru sinnapura SLA base
ReplyDeleteChamal,
ReplyDelete"Best example is, last muhamale battle, SLAF was called lately, but One pilot was able to identify Two Arti locations in Soranpattu and attacked instantly."
That example is for you guys... can a pilot identify a arti position which is located inside bunkers from more than 3000 ft and in a speed of sound ... i heard stories that the radars which used to loacte the arti provides the coordinate of arti positions and after that only they target the arti positions by their arti or the air raid ... but in srilanka its totally different the pilots do the identifying the arti which are located inside the bunkers ... If so how many time the SLAF targeted the arti positions but LTTE still uses arti ...how its possible after the SLN destroyed the weapon smuggling and SLAF destroyed the ARTI's of LTTE
I was thinking as to why those of us singhalas living overseas cannot have a "Jaffna hartal rememberence day" similar to black july in 83?

ReplyDeleteDN is SLA still holding the 500 meters it captured on 23rd? so is this news true?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.island.lk/2008/04/26/news26.html
Shyam,
ReplyDeleteAre you a fighter pilot? If not, shut up. At least read a bit on the subject before you start typing. Anybody with a brain (except you) can understand at that altitudes it's easier to spot what is happening on the ground. Also it's possible to see a vast area even at high speeds. Going at high speeds at high altitude doesn't mean you see the ground flashing past you.... it's not like sitting in a speeding car and looking at the roadside. You think someone can't see a muzzle flash coming from an arti gun, something like a huge mushroom suddenly erupting? And being supersonic doesn't mean they have to fly at supersonic speeds all the time, they can slow down when attacking.
"how many time the SLAF targeted the arti positions but LTTE still uses arti"
You think LTTE has only one artillery gun?
"radars which used to loacte the arti provides the coordinate of arti positions and after that only they target the arti positions by their arti or the air raid"
As I said, this was a CAS mission, not taking out an identified target. The pilots select the best targets and attack. CAS doesn't mean you fly to the target area and ask your commander "sir, where should I drop my bombs?"
"i heard stories"
Ahh..... I thought you must have listened to some fairy tales. You do that daily it seems. Well, you shouldn't believe everything you hear.
If we think about localled assembled helicopter gunships, we can esily have army, navy to own their own limited air support.
ReplyDeleteWhen you buy a land-cruser jeep in SL, you can buy a robinson helicopter for same amount. Then it should be modified to mount guns.
Night vision and GPS not a big deal.
There are Infrared illuminators with 1-2km visibility, mount for night usage and use simple infrared google to see the objects.
anymouse,
ReplyDeletepending a proper answer from DN........
either party can claim the "no-man's land". (not intended to be critical of the SLA)
but SLA has not set-up bunkers or other permanent/semi-permanant army positions in this area.
this area is still prone to large scale LTTE arti.
andare,
ReplyDeleteBTW we couldn't discuss our R&D projects!!
what is the best way to do so?

lkdood,
ReplyDeletepossible.
all recent offensives were unreported in MoD until they were over.
but in contrast operations that are in defencive or pre-emptive in nature were reported.
by late today MoD will come up with a news item LTTE tried to attack WeliOya and SLA retaliated.
given the ability to disrupt the most guarded LTTE bastion, mulaitivu through an operation from welioya, LTTE will defend violently. Hopefully the SLAF will spin into action IN TIME.
Tigers after a heavy beating and using alot of cadres from Mulaitivu are surely licking their wounds. This is the time to go at them.
this shows the govt.'s desire to launch multipronged attacks from all fronts (muhamalai- 3 days ago, mannar - two days ago, welioya- today, vavuniya??)
LTTE leadership may be blasting the "peace brigade" for not doing enough to depopularise war.

@Andare
ReplyDeleteIf that was easy then many rebel groups would have homemade gunships instead of technicals (in Somalia). Luckly the airframe and power-weight ratio and weight balance of these recreational helicopters means that mounting even machine guns is near impossible and suicidal.
The sad thing in Sri lanka is that the "elite" Colombians spend their time having parties will the others are killed. They are in their own bloody world, if the bloody LTTE set up next door they'll probably invite them to their parties. Thats why the people who visit this blog from outside Sri Lanka are "out of touch" when compared to these jokers.
Sri Lankan,
ReplyDelete'I was thinking as to why those of us singhalas living overseas cannot have a "Jaffna hartal rememberence day" similar to black july in 83?
'Well invite some western caucasian picks who aspire to be politicians..maybe pay a few greek students to show their white arses in protest of the Jaffna harthal'
Is some one else pretending to be you?
Doesnt look like you? You never use bad language.
Firerain,
ReplyDeleteBest example, wihch I can give is LTTE bombers. Even though rudymentry, they have modified a sesna (for you impossible ) to carry two bombs and able to come in the night and drop it on almost on the target.
Since LTTE has lots of restriction, they are looking for their own innovations.
there is a island nation near to australia just because of the indonesian restriction on the islanders, they have developed coconut oil to run their all machinery.
(coconut revolution - AL-Jazeera)
Since we do not have such restriction, we have over looked the R&D.
If we really want to build a capable machine, then all the calculation can be done to find out the correct machinery. We have enough engineers in SL to do such things.
Robinsons are piston driven recreational hellicopters. They can carry only two and the even the passenger considerably impedes its performance. It cannot even carry more than few killos of lauggage.
ReplyDeleteCivillian bus bombing on top of the Muhamali debacle in my opinion is to pressurise the Gov. derectly and indirectly [by way of peace kakkas who advocate LTTE is invincible]to abondon military thrust and draw them to a negotiating tables. In this way LTTE can talk at a similar level.
However they are making a big mistake. Sinhala nation is usually back ward and 'kammaly' by default. However when provoked to a certain point unites and can be ferocious. This type of bombing means more support to the government and more forgetting of spiralling cost of living. In short LTTE is supporting the life span of present government.
And I am not surprised as LTTE is seriously lacking good strategy makers such as Bala.
thushanthi,
ReplyDelete"Doesnt look like you? You never use bad language."
Bad language coming from anyone is not surprising when looking at the current state of this blog.
But you're right.... we all too are contributing to it by writing all kinds of abuse here at the LTTE supporters, and it's not like they care anyway. Discussions, arguments, flamings, peacekeepings are all mixed up here, it's not easy to see which are which.
firerain,
ReplyDelete"If that was easy then many rebel groups would have homemade gunships instead of technicals (in Somalia)."
It's not easy of course, and the problem you pointed out is there. But there are some places where this kind of thing is done. A good example is the US army 'Little Bird'. It was earlier used for transporting of their elite units, but now they have fitted rocket launchers & miniguns to it so it can be used in strafing runs. Something like this may be quite enough for CAS and to keep the enemy pinned down. But the problem with 'improvised gunships' like this is that there is no armour protection, so using it in the FDL's will be risky.
Interview with ARMY Commander
ReplyDeleteSinhale – “If the tiger maggots washing dishes can KEEP A FEROCIOUS WAR GOING, then surely we should be able to do better than that…” April 26, 2008 9:42 AM
ReplyDeleteCouldn’t agree with you more bro. In the UK, France, Canada and the USA, the LTTE is a banned organisation, but it is the SL government who is treated as a terrorist. It’s time we folks abroad addressed the core problem. We are a bit more organised now, much better informed, but still no match to LTTE terrorists with advanced propaganda units and unlimited funds. Remember they had ample time to infiltrate all sorts of Media / Local Government / Charities etc.
We have good SL boys and girls working in some of these organisations (or good mates who we could use to our advantage), but sadly, Sri Lankan High Commissions (SLHC) around the world do not have the mechanisms to tap into this freely available talent. I’m talking from experience - recently we had a golden opportunity to expose a well-known Western organisation’s support for the LTTE, if only someone had warned me beforehand about events taking place. Heads would have rolled at top level!
What we need is a database operated by the SLHC Defence Attaché in each country. Interested parties could register their contact details and areas of speciality. The SLHC DA could then contact the volunteers when required. Volunteers could also email SLHC with ideas.
Of course this is easier said than done – I can already see maggots crawling on my screen - we need a bombproof solution to keep the maggots off and protect volunteers' privacy. This is where all you Guys can help with your ideas and knowledge of Internet / blog security. As a mere Key Board Private, let me get the ball rolling…
1) Interested Defence Attachés to generate a new email address for this purpose and contact Defencenet privately.
2) Defencenet to publish Country / Email address list. OF COURSE THIS IS SUBJECT TO PERMISSION FROM DN.
3) Volunteers to register.
4) Defence Attachés to meet / filter out time wasters.
If there’s already anything similar operating out of the SLHCs, please let me know!

ReplyDelete….Sinhala nation …]
mottapala, if you accept that there is a Singhala Nation, you are directly accepting the existence of a Tamil Nation which is the main argument of the terrorists for dividing the island.
Better use the term Sri Lankan Nation which is composed of Singhala, Tamil, Muslim,… communities.
Nation = A group of people/s sharing a common destiny.
The Singhala term Jaathiya is not the correct translation of the word Nation, it tells nothing of a unity or a common destiny.. Moreover Jathiya = Race, Birth. Singhalas are already from many races, we have to stick to facts.
We have to find the correct word, for example Janajiivaya, Janajavaya.

SLA launches offensive in Ma'nalaa'ru
ReplyDelete[TamilNet, Saturday, 26 April 2008, 07:32 GMT]
Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) defensive units were confronting Sri Lanka Army (SLA) units that have launched a large-scale offensive push in Ma'nalaa'ru (Weli Oya) Saturday morning around 6:00, according to LTTE Military Spokesman Irasiah Ilanthirayan.
The LTTE defensive formations were confronting the SLA at Kokkuththoduvaay and Ma'nki'ndimalai Forward Defence Lines

maybe he/she has a changed mood
The sadest point is that SLanka is the only country in this world that LTTE riff raff living overseas can dictate terms to due to the level of poverty in the country that the Hon president is doing his utmost to reduce. The Hon presidents problem is that he does not want to spend millions on general elections so he has to keep people happy..so he has to take 50,000,000 subordinates on every trip overseas to keep them happy..because these guys crave for material comforts..."career develoment"..you know what i mean
ReplyDelete"The LTTE defensive formations were confronting the SLA at Kokkuththoduvaay and Ma'nki'ndimalai Forward Defence Lines"..what defensive formations.??.you mean half starved forcibly conscripted children with bata serreppu carrying AK-47's when they should be in school studying..
ReplyDeleteDN has posted a new post

srilankan as far as we know no significant damage done there.
ReplyDeleteShayam,
ReplyDeleteMy only comment to you..by the look of things ..the LTTE lost far more cadres than they are letting on.my gut feeling.well findout in the future. They commited 2 cardinal sins..they exposed their reserves which were hidden and withdrew cadres from weioya and Mannar north..some of who were butchered by forces in hiding..anyway we will all findout wont we in future.Of course the 3rd mistake was that they have no idea about the sheer will power of the forces..they thought it was going to be a cake walk..but it was not was it...
DefenceNet,

ReplyDeleteOk Ok gentleman. I just thought maybe he is not Sri Lankan. No big deal. Cause' I found him to be generally very courteous and all that in his comments. Of course he is entitled to let go his handle a bit as explained by him. Look at this idiot Peter!! He just writes big words without fail everyday in this blog as though he is so concerned about ‘being a Sri Lankan tamil’ when he does not even know whether the name 'thushanthi' which incidentally can also be found among tamils (dushanthi - slightly different) is identifiable with a female or a male. So much for being familiar with the culture of Sri Lanka!! I bet the idiot cannot speak proper tamil even. Have met so many such ‘patriots’ (to Piribrahana’s tamil EELAM of course) in England who does not have a clue about being a tamil let alone a ‘Sri Lankan’ but who takes membership in all these ‘cyber’ games- being members of all kinds of Internet groups, like the recent LTTE group in the Face Book. What a joke!!
ReplyDeleteLKDOOD – Sorry you lost me there! What are you trying to express? Changed mood?? Plain English Pls. (If you cannot, I can handle Sinhala and a bit of tamil even)
I was in Piliyanda when this LTTE maggots blew off 30 innocent poor people. I was 1/2hr late on crossing the Piliyanda town center from meeting the same fate as poor 30 innocent people. The only crime these innocent 30 people did is being poor and riding a public transportation instead of having their own vehicles. You LTTE f***ERS fight face to face in the front line not stabbing behind the back. After seeing the blown up bus in front of me and the collateral damage caused to innocent civilians around the town center I cannot stress the need to wipe these LTTERs clean. Looking at the blown up bus the parcel bomb was placed on the top rack. I feel sad for the poor street venders who died right next to the bus. The other day I use to go there and buy stuff from them. These people are trying to survive not kill anyone. I deplore first hand what LTTE did to these 30 people and 70 or so injured. I was wondering if or at all western media carried this bombing information?
ReplyDeleteSLDF we are with you to wipe those LTTE maggots off our mother land!!
