  1. Daily Mirror reports it was targeting Minister of Nation Building D.M. Dassanayake's vehicles.

  2. And that's why the LTTE was so keen to publish details of the LRRP attack on Charles.

  5. Given the explosion took place on the main road to the airport, I wouldn't be surprised if the target was more high profile than D.M. Dassanayake.

  7. Yes.. Most probably their target would have been a more high profile...

  8. This attack shows all signs of a random attack or a misfired strike. Maybe the intention was to maintain the momentum of serial bombings in 2008.

  11. I don't know this is possible or not. If defencenet can put another column for pro-LTTE advertisments, jokes, theories etc it is easy for others to read comments column.

  12. Latest information said that minister D.M Dassanayake and two others who sustained severe injuries are now being treated at the Intensive Care Unit at Ragama Teaching hospital. The Director of the Ragama hospital speaking exclusively to defence.lk said nine others were also admitted following the explosion.

I was on my way after meeting a client and was about 5 mins away from this spot...
as we approached the spot there was this one van with it's windshield blown off and people were trying to loadup a heavily bleeding man to a van... as we passed this van only the police closed the road...
I could see some dirt and pieces of what appeared be bushes and other foliage strewn on the road...
the cops diverted us about 50-100 yards away from the spot of the bombing and there was utter chaos in the area with people leaving vehicles behind and converging on to the spot further worsening the traffic situ...
what really suprised me was when we were in wattala, there was another VIP motorcade with armed escorts heading towards negombo side in thick traffic... ????

    11 injured, mininster's condition serious

Latest reports claim that 11 people have been injured including Minister D.M. Dassanayake who has sustained serious injuries.

He must be safe without any injuries this pro ltte dailymirror exaggerate casualties.

  22. Probably a wrong target. Afterall, LTTE losers are not as good as LRRP. Either that or they are desparate trying to bomb a non-entity like this.

On another note. Hillary is trailing Obama by as much as 13 points in New Hampshire. She is supposedly close to tears and probably LTTE supporters are also crying. What a waste of diasporas hard earned money cleaning toilets.

on hilary, i highly doubt even if she had won she'll do the things our ltte bootlickers were expecting her to do :)
USA will always be USA and no one person will be able to chage their ways so drastically to support a terror outfit :)

    on todays bombing
I'm pretty sure ltte got the wrong guy. they would've been waiting for someone else.
Another heavily guarded convoy was heading towards ja-ela area about and hour later with a bulletproof beemer, few escort vehicles and outriders... dunno who it was but thought it was rather stupid to try to ply that road at that time with heavy traffic

  27. Ranil,

I know Hillary won't do anything if she's elected. But its just so satisfying seeing LTTE hopes dashed and their money thrown down the drain.

According to the radio, the Minister has just died. No real loss for SL, but will be bad for the LTTE when we retaliate.

  29. haven't anyone noticed that since our dear CJ took out the checkpoints etc... the tigers seems to be making headway in bombing us like this....
isn't there anything we can do to over rule the stupid CJ?
he can't be screwing up the country's security like this and SL is a country with a huge terrorist problem and an impending all out war with separatist terrorists... we have to tale drastic measures to safeguard our interests...

Don't care much about the MP is he was a thug and abused power to cause mayhem like some MP's in SL...
but we do have a VIP dead and it's done by the tigers which is not a very good thing...
we must do all it takes to see the end to this terrorist issue...
the CJ should help and not be an obstacle

  30. faggot ranil and the rest of the inbreds in the UNP were screaming about a "racist" and "warmongering government", nice way to shore up the nation's image overseas. those filthy fucks should be lined up and shot. all they are doing is licking their sly lips and waiting for a chance to come back to power. they'll even sell, fuck and rape their own mother to achieve that dream.

  31. the idea of this bomb explosion is psyops i think. It is to generate fear among the vips.Any minister would have done..unless as a minister of nation building...is it to stop development efforts in the east i wonder?

  32. "the tigers seems to be making headway in bombing us like this.... isn't there anything we can do to over rule the stupid CJ?"

Ranil, it isn't really Sarath N Silva's fault here. If anyone is to be blamed, it's the treacherous CWC and people like the CPA who file such cases in the first place. It's the Supreme Court's duty to protect the rights of the people, and the military just crashing into peoples houses without any court warrants is a violation of fundamental rights. If anything, hats off to Chief Justice Silva that he isn't kissing the President's ass and actually standing up for the legal system of the country.

That said, none of this is going to help the security situation. If the military thinks it's absolutely essential that they be allowed to carry out such house searchers and checkpoints and the like, the government should either bring in new laws to allow such thing, or create a system where, for example, it'll take the Army just a few minutes to get a police warrant to search any residence they want.

"but we do have a VIP dead and it's done by the tigers which is not a very good thing..."

Couldn't agree with you more. Everyone's heard stories about Daa Mu's thuggery, but the LTTE setting off a bomb on one of the country's main highways and killing a government minister is really bad for the image.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Why is RanilW still running the show in UNP?

I heard from someone that according to the UNP constitution you cannot remove the leader. Only way is for the leader to vacate the leadership it seems. Anyone aware of the issue here?

  34. Srilankan, unlikely he was killed due to his ministry obligations. For the record, we have six (now five) non-cabinet ministers whose only designation is "Minister of Nation Building".

    ReplyDelete
  35. This attack adds a additional sercurity/monetary burden to the government. It will have to stregthen the security of all such ministers , since anyone has a threat right now.

I think MR already knows the solution to prevent government ministers getting killed like this. Just reduce the number of ministers !.

Agreed when you say that CJ is not kissing butt :) I hate bugger who do that and can't stand up for what's right etc :)
But on the other hand...the legal system and with that CJ also should be in favor of securing the country at first behalf of everybody...
Don't see why they had to take out check points and make SLDF folks that much harder and in return make it easier for ltte scum...
that's simple bad for the security of the country and the checkpoints were a better choice over getting bombed randomly somewhere.
Even this new CJ thing...in my experience...SLDF is much better than the cops...cops are just plain stupid and rude...

  38. How will the govt. respond to this according to the new ground realities?

Only a good retalation will teach the tigers a lesson. Unless, tigers will "pick MPs one by one".

  40. CJ hasn't ruled out check points altogether, just the permanent checkpoints - which is actually better for the security of the country. Permanent posts serve no purpose, there are plenty of alternative routes to take which avoid these and it is farcical to think that the LTTE haven't plotted them out. By disbanding them he has actually freed up the Army, Navy, Airforce personnel to conduct more random checks and searches without wasting them on fixed checkpoints that serve no prupose other inconveniencing the general public. (IMHO the traffic build up at these are more of a security hazard than anything else as it effectively stagnantes a large group of people thus enabling a would be bomber to create more havoc)

In any case the searches at these posts are cursory at best and any smart smuggler/bomber would have concealed their weapons/explosives far better.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you guys for eliminating one of those corrupted basted from Sri Lankan politics, even though I do not absolute agree upon the most terrifying and uncivilized way you people have execute it.

If I’m allowed to make a request, could you guys please be kind enough to eliminate Marvin Silva also. I’m pretty sure, if you do that, people in south will be so much delighted for see you guys doing something even our president unable do, with all the execute power he got, and they may even star to love you guys more than the president.

  43. CJ is right to lift the ban on road blocks, etc quite correctly he is looking beyond the island and looking at the way it is done in countries, where road blocks and other things are ineffective. He is damm right that no roadblocks will stop the terrorists bringing in bombs etc. This is the advice of people who are dealing with the problems here. It’s too long to explain and if we are lucky enough to catch a fellow who transported these, we will be surprised to know their methods. These terrorists will exploit the greed for money hungry officials and politicians and even religious leaders, whose possessions and vehicles will not be checked and this is one way that will bypass the blocks. I have seen this many time and even videoed it and shown some politicians who have reach to the very top and being so arrogant they ignored me. Recently during the last day of the perhara in Kandy, a top Police official parked his private vehicle, where no one else allowed in a place where the President was to have been 50 yards away. Scared spectators protested about this car to the police officers on duty nearby. These officers, instead of checking this car threaten the spectators, as they stupidly closed ranks with this high powered police officers, we were told that he was from the NW.The owner of the nearby premises called the DIG Kandy and protested and the local cops turned up, and reluctantly asked this officer to move his private vehicle but before he was moved out that gentleman got the officers to check his boot, where several beer bottles with corks were stacked. The lower ranking officers were scared to challenge him and he sped away. I think he had an explosive device in that boot carried for the terrorists, in the form of liquid. I was told that this brave person followed this up by sending an e mail to the President, but no e mail of thanks or any investigation was done. These incompetent idiots deserve what they are getting now. Likes of the CJ now cares for the welfare of it’s innocent people and that’s why he is going around the country talking to people. My brother attended one such meeting that the CJ had on the 28th Dec’07 at Asgryia as the helpless people are consoled by him, so don’t cry for the politicians, please cry for our people and the brave young dying at battle front, while the crooked, thugish leaders are making money. I hear one thug,Mihinda Wijesekara MP is trying to settle down in Malaysia, so he must have acquired a lot of money to qualify for that visa. Good night all!
